Frequently asked questions
Which one is better for standardising a UK business fleet?
It depends on your management stack. The EliteBook X G2 14 AI is the more flexible fleet choice because you can specify Intel vPro (with Thunderbolt 4) for centrally managed estates, AMD Ryzen PRO, or Snapdragon X2 — all in one chassis and dock story. The EliteBook X G1a keeps things simpler with a single AMD platform and AMD PRO manageability, which eases imaging and support, but it has no Intel vPro option. If your endpoint tooling assumes vPro, go G2 Intel; if you want one proven AMD SKU across the fleet, the G1a is the cleaner standard.
Do these laptops have Thunderbolt 4?
Only the G2 carries Thunderbolt 4, and only on its Intel and AMD models; its Snapdragon models use 2x USB4 40 Gbps instead. The EliteBook X G1a uses 2x USB4 Type-C 40 Gbps (with Power Delivery and DisplayPort 2.1) rather than Thunderbolt-branded ports, because it is an AMD Ryzen AI platform. USB4 40 Gbps docks, displays and eGPU enclosures still work well on the G1a; you simply do not get the Thunderbolt certification badge.
Are both Copilot+ PCs, and how much AI performance do I get?
Yes, both qualify as Copilot+ PCs because both clear the 40-TOPS NPU requirement. The G1a delivers 55 TOPS from its AMD Ryzen AI NPU across the range. The G2 varies by silicon: up to 85 TOPS on Snapdragon X2 Elite and 50 TOPS on the Intel Core Ultra X7 358H, so it has the higher AI ceiling if you pick Snapdragon. For most Copilot+ features either is comfortably over the bar; the G2 Snapdragon is the one to choose if you want maximum headroom for on-device AI workloads.
Should I consider a MacBook instead?
These are Windows 11 Pro business laptops built for Windows-managed estates — HP Wolf security, TPM, and Intel vPro or AMD Ryzen PRO manageability — plus Copilot+ on-device AI. Apple MacBooks are excellent machines with Thunderbolt 4/5, but they are not Copilot+ PCs, have no vPro, and sit outside Windows-centric Intune and HP manageability workflows. Choose a MacBook only if your estate is already macOS-managed; if you run a Windows fleet, the EliteBook X G1a or G2 is the better fit.
