iPhone Duo vs iPhone 16
The folding iPhone against a conventional one, on Apple’s own figures. 6 headline measures favour the iPhone Duo and 2 the iPhone 16, and 12 specifications differ outright. Written for the people who buy phones by the dozen rather than one at a time: what changed, what it changes about a rollout, and what it does not.
Bottom line. iPhone Duo suits field and lone-worker teams, executives and client-facing staff, international travel and roaming, replacing a second screen on the road. iPhone 16 suits volume fleets and shared devices, one-handed, all-day carry. Apple publishes no benchmark scores for either phone, so nothing here claims one is “faster”.

12 specifications that are not the same
Everything below is a line Apple publishes for both phones. Anything the two share — and most of the specification is shared — is in the full table further down.
The measures that decide it
Each row is a figure Apple publishes for both. Bars show the split; the badge marks the larger number, which is not always the better buy — a lighter phone and a smaller screen are the same fact stated twice.
Both phones, drawn to the same scale
Outlines plotted from Apple’s published millimetres, at one scale, so the difference is the real one rather than two press photographs cropped to the same height.

Which one, and why
Drawn from the measures above. Apple publishes no benchmark results for either phone, so nothing here claims one is faster than the other — only what each one is documented to do.
Choose the iPhone Duo if…
- Screen size: 7.6″ against 6.1″.
- Usable screen area: 175.4 cm² against 91.3 cm².
- Video playback: 31 hrs against 22 hrs.
- Capacity: Up to 2TB against Up to 512GB.
- Peak brightness outdoors: 3000 nits against 2000 nits.
- Wired transfer: 10 Gb/s against 0.48 Gb/s.
Choose the iPhone 16 if…
- Weight: 170 g against 254 g.
- Thickness: 7.8 mm against 11.3 mm.
- Fits best for volume fleets and shared devices and one-handed, all-day carry — the standard-issue handset: battery and durability matter, a folding screen and a third camera do not.
- Still takes a physical nano-SIM, which is the safer choice if any of your networks or travel destinations are not fully eSIM-ready.

The differences that reach IT, not the user
Enrolment, SIM provisioning, unlock policy and the software clock — the things that decide whether a model can actually be rolled out, and the ones a spec sheet buries.
SIM and provisioning
Both enrol the same way in Apple Business Manager; what differs is whether a physical SIM is an option when a carrier or a country is not eSIM-ready.
Unlock method
Face ID and Touch ID satisfy the same MDM passcode policies; the practical difference is gloves, masks and shared-device handover.
Water and dust
Apple’s rating is tested in laboratory conditions and is not permanent — it is not a substitute for a rugged case on a site fleet.
Safety features
Satellite features are the reason many lone-worker policies now specify a recent iPhone rather than any smartphone.
Wired transfer
A 10Gb/s port matters where devices are imaged, backed up or evidence-collected over cable rather than over the air.
Wireless
Wi-Fi generation decides how a device behaves on a busy corporate WLAN long before it decides raw speed.
Software generation
Both run the current iOS. The older model simply started its update life earlier, which is the clock a fleet should be planned against.
Side by side, differences first

iPhone Duo vs iPhone 16, answered
What is the real difference between the iPhone Duo and the iPhone 16?
A20 Pro replaces A18 — the graphics go from “5-core GPU” to “7-core GPU with Neural Accelerators”, and the Neural Engine from “16-core Neural Engine” to “Dual 16-core Neural Engine”. Apple publishes no benchmark for either, so how much of that reaches a user depends entirely on the apps. Video playback goes from 22 hours to 31 — up 9 hours (41%) on Apple’s own measure. The display moves from 6.1″ to 7.6″, which is 92% more usable area.
Is the iPhone Duo worth upgrading to from the iPhone 16 for business use?
That depends on what the phones are used for. The iPhone Duo leads on field and lone-worker teams, executives and client-facing staff, international travel and roaming and replacing a second screen on the road. The iPhone 16 still leads on volume fleets and shared devices and one-handed, all-day carry. Battery is the figure most fleets feel: 31 hours against 22 on Apple's own video-playback test.
Which has better battery life, the iPhone Duo or the iPhone 16?
Apple quotes up to 31 hours of video playback for the iPhone Duo and up to 22 hours for the iPhone 16 — a 41% difference on the same test. Streamed video, which is closer to real use, is 26 hours against 18.
Can both be managed and enrolled the same way?
Yes. Both are enrolled through Apple Business Manager with automated device enrolment and managed by whichever MDM you already run, and both take the same configuration profiles. The differences that affect IT are the SIM (one is eSIM-only), the unlock method (Touch ID against Face ID) and how long each will keep receiving iOS feature updates.
How long will each one keep getting iOS updates?
Apple does not publish a support end date for any iPhone. What history shows is roughly five to seven years of iOS releases from launch, which puts the iPhone 16 2 generations further through that window than the iPhone Duo. Plan a fleet on the older model's clock, not the newer one's.
Does the folding iPhone Duo make sense as a business phone?
It replaces two devices: folded it is a 5.4″ phone, open it is a 7.6″ screen — 175.4 cm² against 91.3 cm² on the iPhone 16. It unlocks with Touch ID rather than Face ID, it is eSIM-only, and at 254 g it is heavier than the iPhone 16's 170 g. For staff who read drawings, contracts or dashboards on the move it removes a tablet from the kit list; for a warehouse or a van fleet it does not.
Where these figures come from. Every specification on this page is taken from Apple’s own published material — iPhone Duo specifications and iPhone 16 specifications, cross-checked against Apple’s compare tool, captured 12 September 2026. Screen areas and percentage differences are calculated from those figures. This is a specification comparison only: nothing here is a benchmark, a price or a statement about stock.
