Expert Analysis

Specs web-verified from manufacturer datasheets · Servnet-reviewed · Last reviewed 26 Jul 2026

The HP EliteBook 6 G1a emerges as the better overall pick for UK enterprises, thanks to its user-upgradeable memory, higher storage capacity, and x86 application compatibility. In contrast, the G1q, powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon, offers far longer battery life — up to 24 hours 48 minutes in HP’s video test — and includes 5G WWAN, making it ideal for peripatetic workers. The G1a provides a choice of 14-inch or 16-inch displays with up to 2.5K 120Hz and optional touch, while the G1q is confined to a 14-inch panel. Both laptops feature Secured-Core PC security, but the G1a’s Thunderbolt 4 ports and optional 4G LTE give it an edge in connectivity for demanding environments. IT departments will appreciate the G1a’s dual SO-DIMM slots for DDR5 RAM, allowing easy upgrades compared to the G1q’s soldered memory. The G1a also supports Copilot+ on selective Ryzen AI 300 configurations, whereas the G1q delivers consistent 45 TOPS NPU performance across all models. Ultimately, the G1a wins on expandability and ecosystem familiarity, while the G1q is a strong contender for mobile-first roles prioritising endurance and AI readiness.
