Expert Analysis

Specs web-verified from manufacturer datasheets · Servnet-reviewed · Last reviewed 8 Sept 2026

The Lenovo ThinkPad T16 Gen 5 emerges as the superior corporate workstation, delivering next-generation processing, a lighter starting chassis, and true Copilot+ AI readiness over the ThinkPad T16 Gen 4. Procurement teams evaluating the ThinkPad T16 Gen 5 gain notable platform advantages. Its Intel Core Ultra Series 3 architecture includes a 50 TOPS NPU meeting Copilot+ standards, alongside optional Intel Arc B-series graphics and faster LPDDR5X-7467 memory. Visual capabilities also see an upgrade with a choice of IPS or OLED panels reaching 2880x1800 resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate at 500 nits. Furthermore, it trims starting weight down to 1.63 kg and integrates a 75 Wh battery with fast charging. Conversely, the ThinkPad T16 Gen 4 remains a robust enterprise deployment option built on Intel Core Ultra Series 2 processors with up to a 12 TOPS NPU. Its primary architectural strength lies in memory modularity, featuring two DDR5-5600 SO-DIMM slots that permit dual-channel user upgrades up to 64 GB, compared to the single SO-DIMM slot configuration on the Gen 5. It also provides flexibility through an optional 86 Wh battery alongside its baseline 52.5 Wh pack. Ultimately, organisations prioritising Copilot+ AI compliance, high-resolution screens, and reduced carry weight will standardise on the Gen 5.
