Frequently asked questions
Which is better for a large managed fleet?
It depends on your management stack. The Intel EliteBook 8 G1i supports Intel vPro on eligible CPUs (Core Ultra 7 268V and 265H), which slots into existing Intel AMT/EMA out-of-band tooling used across many enterprises. The AMD EliteBook 8 G1a uses AMD PRO manageability on its PRO SKUs and gives a simpler, consistent Copilot+ story with upgradeable memory. Pick the one that matches the platform your IT team already standardises on.
Do both laptops have Thunderbolt 4?
Yes. Both carry two Thunderbolt 4 ports (40 Gbps, DisplayPort 2.1, USB Power Delivery). That is notable on the G1a because it is an AMD Ryzen platform, yet HP's QuickSpecs confirm full Thunderbolt 4 rather than plain USB4 or USB-C. Both also add a further USB-C port, a USB-A port and HDMI 2.1.
Which one is a genuine Copilot+ PC?
The EliteBook 8 G1a is Copilot+ on every configuration thanks to its 50 TOPS AMD NPU. The EliteBook 8 G1i is Copilot+ only on the Lunar Lake Core Ultra 7 268V/256V models (47-48 TOPS); its Arrow Lake-H 265H/255H models are AI PCs at around 13 TOPS and do not meet Microsoft's 40+ TOPS Copilot+ bar. If Copilot+ across the whole rollout matters, the G1a removes the guesswork.
Which is better if I want upgradeable memory and a long service life?
The EliteBook 8 G1a, which uses two user-upgradeable DDR5-5600 SO-DIMM slots up to 64 GB on every SKU. On the G1i, only the Arrow Lake-H models offer SO-DIMM memory up to 64 GB; the Lunar Lake models use LPDDR5x soldered on-package and are capped at 32 GB, so you must specify RAM correctly at order time.
