Frequently asked questions
Which one is better for a large business fleet?
For broad, mixed fleets the EliteBook 6 G1i usually makes more sense: memory stays user-serviceable across every configuration (2x SODIMM, up to 64GB), Gigabit Ethernet is built in, and it offers a lighter 13.3-inch size plus an optional RTX 3050. Both models share HP Wolf Pro Security, TPM 2.0 and Intel vPro on eligible CPUs, so either can slot into a managed Windows 11 Pro estate. Step up to the 8 G1i where you specifically need Copilot+ performance or the premium camera and build.
Do both laptops have Thunderbolt 4?
Yes. Both are Intel-based and ship with 2x Thunderbolt 4 ports (40Gbps, DisplayPort 2.1, USB Power Delivery), so both dock and drive external displays the same way. The EliteBook 8 G1i adds an extra USB-C 10Gbps port, while the 6 G1i counters with a second powered USB-A port and built-in RJ-45.
Is either model a Copilot+ PC?
Only the EliteBook 8 G1i, and only in its Lunar Lake trims — the Core Ultra 7 268V (48 TOPS) and 256V (47 TOPS) clear the 40-TOPS NPU threshold Microsoft requires for Copilot+ features. The EliteBook 6 G1i tops out at 13 TOPS, so it is an AI PC but not a Copilot+ PC. Note that the 8 G1i's Arrow Lake-H SKUs (265H/255H, 13 TOPS) are likewise AI PCs, not Copilot+, so confirm the exact CPU when Copilot+ is a requirement.
Should I consider a MacBook instead?
It depends on your management stack. Macs are not Copilot+ PCs and have no Intel vPro, so if you rely on Windows Autopilot, vPro remote management and HP Wolf firmware protection, these EliteBooks fit a Windows estate more cleanly. If your organisation is standardised on macOS and Apple silicon on-device AI, a MacBook is the natural alternative — but it sits outside the Windows fleet-management model these HP business laptops are built for.
