Frequently asked questions
Which is better for a large managed fleet?
Both support Intel vPro on eligible SKUs plus hardware-enforced firmware security (HP Wolf Security and Sure Start versus Lenovo ThinkShield). The ThinkPad's Intel-only line-up keeps imaging and driver management simple for a standardised estate; the EliteBook X G2 adds AMD PRO and Snapdragon options, giving more flexibility but a wider set of images to manage. Note that Lunar Lake configs top out at vPro Essentials, and Snapdragon has no vPro at all, so specify an eligible SKU if you need full vPro Enterprise.
Do both have Thunderbolt 4?
The Intel and AMD EliteBook X G2 configurations have 2x Thunderbolt 4; the Snapdragon config swaps to 2x USB4 (40Gbps) instead. The ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 has 2x Thunderbolt 4 / USB4 on every configuration. All support 40Gbps, DisplayPort and USB-C Power Delivery.
Are these Copilot+ PCs?
The EliteBook X G2 is Copilot+ certified on every configuration (50 TOPS on Intel Core Ultra, up to 85 TOPS on Snapdragon). On the ThinkPad, only the Core Ultra 7 258V (47 TOPS) meets the 40-plus-TOPS Copilot+ bar; the Core Ultra 7 255U is an AI PC but sits below it at roughly 12 TOPS.
Should I consider a MacBook instead?
A MacBook Air or Pro 14 is a valid alternative for creative and developer users, but Macs are not Copilot+ PCs — they run Apple's own on-device AI, not Windows Copilot+ features, and have no Intel vPro. If you need Windows-native manageability (vPro, ThinkShield, Wolf Security), on-device Copilot+ AI, or built-in 5G WWAN, stick with these two. Apple uses Thunderbolt 4/5 rather than USB4.
