What changes for IT between the 17 Pro and the Air
For whoever manages them, the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone Air part company on the SIM and wired transfer — and on nothing else in this section. Enrolment, configuration profiles and the MDM you already run behave the same way on both.
SIM and provisioning
The iPhone Air is eSIM-only and the iPhone 17 Pro still takes a nano-SIM. Every carrier and country in the estate has to be eSIM-ready before the eSIM-only model can go out.
Unlock method
Both the 17 Pro and the Air unlock with Face ID, so one MDM passcode policy covers the pair without an exception for either.
Water and dust
The 17 Pro and the Air carry the same rating, IP68 to 6 metres. Apple tests it in laboratory conditions and it is not permanent, so on a site fleet it is still not a substitute for a case.

17 Pro: USB-C Supports USB 3 (up to 10Gb/s). Air: USB-C Supports USB 2. That gap shows up where devices are imaged, backed up or evidence-collected over a cable rather than over the air.

Identical on both: Wi-Fi 7 · Bluetooth 6. Wi-Fi generation decides how a device behaves on a busy corporate WLAN long before it decides raw speed, and here it decides nothing between the 17 Pro and the Air.
