iPhone 18 Pro vs iPhone Air
Two models in the same range, compared on every figure Apple publishes. 4 headline measures favour the iPhone 18 Pro and 4 the iPhone Air, and 12 specifications differ outright. Written for the people who buy phones by the dozen rather than one at a time: what changed, what it changes about a rollout, and what it does not.
Bottom line. iPhone 18 Pro suits field and lone-worker teams, volume fleets and shared devices, marketing, site records and content. iPhone Air suits executives and client-facing staff, international travel and roaming, replacing a second screen on the road, one-handed, all-day carry. Apple publishes no benchmark scores for either phone, so nothing here claims one is “faster”.

12 specifications that are not the same
Everything below is a line Apple publishes for both phones. Anything the two share — and most of the specification is shared — is in the full table further down.
The measures that decide it
Each row is a figure Apple publishes for both. Bars show the split; the badge marks the larger number, which is not always the better buy — a lighter phone and a smaller screen are the same fact stated twice.
Both phones, drawn to the same scale
Outlines plotted from Apple’s published millimetres, at one scale, so the difference is the real one rather than two press photographs cropped to the same height.

Which one, and why
Drawn from the measures above. Apple publishes no benchmark results for either phone, so nothing here claims one is faster than the other — only what each one is documented to do.
Choose the iPhone 18 Pro if…
- Video playback: 34 hrs against 27 hrs.
- Capacity: Up to 2TB against Up to 1TB.
- Longest optical zoom: 8× against 2×.
- Wired transfer: 10 Gb/s against 0.48 Gb/s.
- Fits best for field and lone-worker teams, volume fleets and shared devices and marketing, site records and content — a full shift away from a charger with satellite SOS behind it.
- Records ProRes, which the other model does not — relevant only if someone is editing the footage afterwards.
Choose the iPhone Air if…
- Screen size: 6.5″ against 6.3″.
- Usable screen area: 103.6 cm² against 97.2 cm².
- Weight: 165 g against 211 g.
- Thickness: 5.64 mm against 8.75 mm.
- Fits best for executives and client-facing staff, international travel and roaming, replacing a second screen on the road and one-handed, all-day carry — screen area and the camera every video call runs through.
- eSIM only: no tray to lose, but every carrier in your estate has to support eSIM provisioning before it can be deployed.

The differences that reach IT, not the user
Enrolment, SIM provisioning, unlock policy and the software clock — the things that decide whether a model can actually be rolled out, and the ones a spec sheet buries.
SIM and provisioning
Both enrol the same way in Apple Business Manager; what differs is whether a physical SIM is an option when a carrier or a country is not eSIM-ready.
Unlock method
Face ID and Touch ID satisfy the same MDM passcode policies; the practical difference is gloves, masks and shared-device handover.
Water and dust
Apple’s rating is tested in laboratory conditions and is not permanent — it is not a substitute for a rugged case on a site fleet.
Safety features
Satellite features are the reason many lone-worker policies now specify a recent iPhone rather than any smartphone.
Wired transfer
A 10Gb/s port matters where devices are imaged, backed up or evidence-collected over cable rather than over the air.
Wireless
Wi-Fi generation decides how a device behaves on a busy corporate WLAN long before it decides raw speed.
Software generation
Both run the current iOS. The older model simply started its update life earlier, which is the clock a fleet should be planned against.

iPhone 18 Pro vs iPhone Air, answered
What is the real difference between the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone Air?
A20 Pro replaces A19 Pro — the graphics go from “5-core GPU with Neural Accelerators” to “7-core GPU with Neural Accelerators”, and the Neural Engine from “16-core Neural Engine” to “Dual 16-core Neural Engine”. Apple publishes no benchmark for either, so how much of that reaches a user depends entirely on the apps. Video playback goes from 27 hours to 34 — up 7 hours (26%) on Apple’s own measure. The display moves from 6.5″ to 6.3″, which is 7% less usable area.
Is the iPhone 18 Pro worth upgrading to from the iPhone Air for business use?
That depends on what the phones are used for. The iPhone 18 Pro leads on field and lone-worker teams, volume fleets and shared devices and marketing, site records and content. The iPhone Air still leads on executives and client-facing staff, international travel and roaming, replacing a second screen on the road and one-handed, all-day carry. Battery is the figure most fleets feel: 34 hours against 27 on Apple's own video-playback test.
Which has better battery life, the iPhone 18 Pro or the iPhone Air?
Apple quotes up to 34 hours of video playback for the iPhone 18 Pro and up to 27 hours for the iPhone Air — a 26% difference on the same test. Streamed video, which is closer to real use, is 31 hours against 22.
Can both be managed and enrolled the same way?
Yes. Both are enrolled through Apple Business Manager with automated device enrolment and managed by whichever MDM you already run, and both take the same configuration profiles. The differences that affect IT are the SIM (one is eSIM-only), the unlock method (Face ID against Face ID) and how long each will keep receiving iOS feature updates.
How long will each one keep getting iOS updates?
Apple does not publish a support end date for any iPhone. What history shows is roughly five to seven years of iOS releases from launch, which puts the iPhone Air 1 generation further through that window than the iPhone 18 Pro. Plan a fleet on the older model's clock, not the newer one's.
Where these figures come from. Every specification on this page is taken from Apple’s own published material — iPhone 18 Pro specifications and iPhone Air specifications, cross-checked against Apple’s compare tool, captured 12 September 2026. Screen areas and percentage differences are calculated from those figures. This is a specification comparison only: nothing here is a benchmark, a price or a statement about stock.
