Liqid LQD4500 IO Accelerator
Up to 32 TB of NVMe on one card

Most NVMe SSDs sit in drive bays. The Liqid LQD4500 IO Accelerator puts NVMe capacity on a full PCIe x16 card instead: up to 32 TB, up to 4 million random read IOPS and up to 26 GB/s read throughput, without using a drive bay. It works in a standard server slot, or pooled in a Liqid chassis and composed to whichever GPU host needs fast local data.

Specifications

LQD4500 technical specifications

All figures from Liqid's LQD4500 datasheet[src]. Liqid's storage web page headlines 10 μs, which is the datasheet's minimum write latency; minimum read latency is 70 μs.

Use the Liqid LQD4500 IO Accelerator where a server needs more NVMe capacity or read bandwidth than its drive bays can give, or where a GPU host needs fast local data next to its GPUs.

The LQD4500's read/write asymmetry. Reads run at twice the write bandwidth and over four times the write IOPS, which suits read-heavy work such as feeding GPUs, analytics scans and checkpoint restores. Source: LQD4500 datasheet.

Six capacities, two series

Liqid sells the card in two series, Data Center and Enterprise, with three capacities each[src]. It publishes PBW and DWPD per capacity on request, so we confirm endurance on the quote.

Deployment

In the server, or in the pool

The LQD4500 is a plain NVMe device, so it can live in two places.
Direct

In a host PCIe slot

Install it in a Gen4 x16 slot like any NVMe device: UEFI boot, software or OS RAID, no host CPU or DRAM offload[src]. Check slot length and airflow first, as it is a full-length card needing 400 LFM.
Composed

In a Liqid expansion chassis

The LQD4500 is on Liqid's compatibility list[src], so it can sit in a Liqid expansion chassis alongside GPUs and be composed to whichever host needs it. Liqid's SmartStacks support GPU-to-storage communication over the fabric[src].

Board compatibility notes

Liqid's compatibility list asks for bifurcation to be turned off on some boards, including the Dell R7515 and Gigabyte MZ92-FS0[src]. We check your host before quoting.

Example layout, as in a two-chassis SmartStack: two hosts and two Liqid chassis behind one fabric switch, one chassis holding GPUs and one holding LQD4500 cards, so each GPU host gets composed NVMe next to its GPUs. We confirm which chassis generation suits the cards on quote.

FAQs

Liqid LQD4500: common questions

What is the Liqid LQD4500?

The Liqid Element LQD4500 is an NVMe storage device built as a single full-height, full-length PCIe Gen4 x16 add-in card rather than a drive. Liqid specifies up to 32 TB raw capacity, up to 4 million random 4K read IOPS and up to 26 GB/s read throughput, with power-loss data protection and 256-bit AES encryption.

Which LQD4500 capacities are available?

Two series. Data Center: 7.68 TB (L4500-007T68-040), 15.36 TB (L4500-015T36-040) and 30.72 TB (L4500-030T72-040). Enterprise: 6.4 TB (L4500-006T40-040), 12.8 TB (L4500-012T80-040) and 25.6 TB (L4500-025T60-040). Liqid publishes the endurance per capacity on request.

How much endurance does it have?

Up to 61.53 PBW or 2 DWPD, depending on capacity and configuration, with a 3-year warranty or until maximum endurance is used. Work out what your write load needs with our DWPD and TBW calculator.

Does the LQD4500 need a Liqid fabric?

No. It is a standard NVMe 1.3 device on a PCIe Gen4 x16 slot that installs straight into a server, with UEFI boot and software or OS RAID support. It can also sit in a Liqid expansion chassis and be composed to hosts with Matrix. Liqid’s compatibility notes ask for bifurcation to be turned off on some boards, such as the Dell R7515.

Which operating systems are supported?

Liqid lists Windows, RHEL, SLES, CentOS, Solaris, SUSE and VMware.

Is there a PCIe Gen5 IO Accelerator?

Liqid’s 2025 SmartStack datasheets offer the AX-5500 IO Accelerator as an add-on: up to 64 TB NVMe on a PCIe Gen5 x16 full-height, full-length card. Ask us for its current specification.
