Common questions

When will the M5 Mac mini ship?

Not announced as of mid-2026. Apple's historical pattern is to refresh Mac mini 12-18 months after the corresponding MacBook generation, so an M5 Mac mini is likely in late 2026 or early 2027. If your deployment is urgent, M4 / M4 Pro remain very capable and the chassis is identical to whatever the M5 refresh will look like.

Mac mini or MacBook Air?

Mac mini is cheaper but requires you to bring your own display, keyboard, and mouse — so the total cost is comparable once accessories are included. Pick Mac mini for fixed desk-only work; pick MacBook Air for hybrid / travel use.

Worth the 10 GbE option?

For NAS-backed creative workflows (Final Cut libraries on shared storage, Adobe Creative Cloud network folders, video transcoding pipelines), yes. For typical office / development use, standard Gigabit is plenty.

Can it run Linux?

Asahi Linux supports the M1 / M2 generation reliably; M4 support is still in development as of mid-2026. For Linux on Apple Silicon, M1 / M2 / M3 hardware is the safer choice. For Linux on x86 silicon, the Mac mini isn't the right product — pick a small-form-factor Intel/AMD machine.
