October 2024 redesign — half the footprint of the previous Mac mini. 12.7 × 12.7 × 5 cm cube, 670 g.
Base M4 for productivity / desk-replacement; M4 Pro for sustained creative / dev compute. Mac mini has not yet been refreshed to M5 silicon — M4 / M4 Pro remain Apple's current configuration.
M4 Pro ships 3× TB5; base M4 ships TB4. Both include 2× front USB-C ports.
Optional 10 Gigabit Ethernet on either silicon tier. Useful for NAS-backed creative workflows.
Pairs with Apple Studio Display, Pro Display XDR, or any HDMI / USB-C monitor. Supports up to 3 displays (M4) or 4 displays (M4 Pro).
Storage configurable at order time up to 8 TB on M4 Pro. SSD is soldered — pick the right capacity at order.
For fleet rollouts: identical chassis across M4 and M4 Pro means one image, one accessory ecosystem, one management story.
The Mac mini with M4 / M4 Pro is Apple's smallest and most affordable desktop Mac. As of mid-2026 it has not been refreshed to M5 silicon — M4 / M4 Pro remain the current configuration, lagging the MacBook line by one generation. Apple has historically refreshed Mac mini 12-18 months after the corresponding MacBook generation, so an M5 Mac mini is likely on the horizon but not yet shipping.
The October 2024 redesign halved the chassis footprint — 12.7 × 12.7 × 5 cm, a cube small enough to mount under a desk or behind a display. The redesign moved the power button to the bottom-rear (still controversial, since pressing it requires lifting the unit), but added two front USB-C ports that the previous design lacked — genuinely useful for camera card transfers and quick peripheral connections.
Silicon comes in two tiers. The base M4 (10-core CPU, 10-core GPU, up to 32 GB memory) is the right choice for most desk-replacement use cases — knowledge workers, designers, light video editors. The M4 Pro (up to 14-core CPU, 20-core GPU, up to 64 GB memory) adds Thunderbolt 5 and is the choice for creative pros, developers, ML practitioners, and dedicated build / transcoding servers.
For UK business buyers, Mac mini is the most cost-efficient way to deploy Apple silicon at scale — entry pricing puts it below MacBook Air territory once you account for not paying for a display, keyboard, or battery. Servnet quotes alongside Apple Studio Display, Magic Keyboard / Trackpad, and AppleCare+ for Business uplift options. If buying for a 3+ year refresh cycle, consider waiting for the M5 Mac mini refresh if your use case isn't urgent.
Most cost-effective way to deploy macOS at desks (bring your own display / keyboard).
Apple Silicon Mac mini cluster runs iOS / macOS builds at significantly lower cost-per-build than cloud Mac instances.
M4 Pro with 10 GbE for NAS-backed creative pipelines.
Compact, silent, reliable macOS endpoint for retail / signage deployments.
