About the Cisco ASA 5506-X / 5508-X
The Cisco ASA 5506-X and ASA 5508-X were mid-range desktop and 1U rack-mount stateful firewalls with optional FirePOWER Services (NGIPS, AVC, URL filtering) delivered via a software services module. These appliances were widely deployed across small offices, branch locations, and enterprise WAN edges throughout the 2010s.
Cisco has announced end-of-sale for the ASA 5500-X Series. Customers still running ASA 5506-X or 5508-X appliances are advised to plan their migration to the Cisco Firepower 1000 Series — specifically the Firepower 1010 (direct 5506-X replacement) or Firepower 1120 (5508-X replacement). These modern appliances deliver significantly higher NGFW throughput, integrated FTD software, and modern cloud management via Cisco Defense Orchestrator.
