Key Features

Everything you need in one device

End-to-End NVMe Architecture

Dual-ported NVMe SSDs with NVMe-over-Fabrics host connectivity deliver the lowest latency possible. The Dynamic Resiliency Engine (DRE) protects against multiple simultaneous drive failures without performance penalty.

🤖

Machine Learning Optimisation

Embedded ML continuously monitors and re-balances workloads across controllers and media. AppsON lets you run VMware virtual machines directly on the array, eliminating separate application servers for management workloads.

🛡️

Zero Trust Cybersecurity

Native ransomware protection with immutable snapshots (SafeMode), logical air-gapping, and anomaly detection built into the PowerStore OS. No additional software licences required for core data protection features.

☁️

Active/Active Autonomous Control

Both controllers are fully active simultaneously — no head-node failover penalty. PowerStore OS autonomously rebalances I/O between controllers based on real-time demand.

💾

Unified Block & File

Native block (iSCSI, FC, NVMe-oF) and file (NFS, SMB/CIFS) workloads on a single appliance — no separate NAS gateway required. Thin provisioning, snapshots, and replication included.

🔄

Non-Disruptive Upgrades

Scale-out by adding appliances to a cluster non-disruptively. Controller-level upgrades and software updates complete without downtime, protecting the investment over a typical 5–7-year lifecycle.

About the Dell PowerStore 500T

The Dell PowerStore 500T Gen2 is the entry-level model in Dell's award-winning PowerStore family — ranked #1 in ease of use by Bain & Company's certified MyCX methodology. It targets SMB and departmental workloads requiring enterprise-class resilience without enterprise-class complexity.

Gen2 introduces a higher-density NVMe SSD design (up to 97 drives per 2U appliance), improved processor configurations (Intel Xeon, 24 cores at 2.2 GHz), and enhanced ML algorithms. The result is up to 23% better performance-per-watt versus Gen1.

The PowerStore OS is software-defined at its core — capabilities like deduplication, compression, synchronous replication (Metro volume), and asynchronous replication are all included. There is no separate licence for ransomware protection or snapshot-based recovery, which significantly reduces total cost of ownership versus competitive platforms.

Use Cases

Ideal for a wide range of deployments

🏢

SMB & Departmental

Consolidate multiple legacy arrays onto a single PowerStore 500T — reducing power, cooling, and management overhead while gaining enterprise data services.

🖥️

VDI & Virtual Servers

Sub-millisecond latency and all-NVMe throughput make the 500T ideal for VMware or Hyper-V environments running mixed OLTP, ERP, and collaboration workloads.

🔒

Ransomware Recovery

SafeMode immutable snapshots and anomaly detection provide an on-array recovery point that cannot be deleted by compromised credentials or ransomware encryption.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is the difference between PowerStore T and Q models?

T models include a built-in 10GbE NAS engine for native file (NFS/SMB) support. Q models are block-only (no native file) and are optimised for high-density block workloads. The 500T is a T model.

Q. Does PowerStore 500T support NVMe over Fabrics?

Yes — PowerStore Gen2 supports NVMe-oF over both Fibre Channel (FC-NVMe) and RDMA/RoCE, in addition to traditional FC and iSCSI host connectivity.

Q. Can I cluster multiple PowerStore appliances?

Yes. Up to four PowerStore appliances can form a cluster sharing a single management plane and distributed across sites for metro availability. The 500T cluster supports up to 24.64 PBe effective.

Q. Is data reduction guaranteed?

Yes — Dell guarantees a minimum 5:1 data reduction ratio for PowerStore Gen2 appliances on qualifying workloads, backed by contractual terms.
