The Dell PowerVault ME5024 is the mid-size model in the ME5 Series — positioned between the 12-drive ME5012 and the high-density 84-drive ME5084. Its 2U 24-drive design (2.5" drive bays) offers a good balance of drive count, capacity, and rack density for SMB and mid-market organisations deploying shared SAN storage for the first time or expanding existing installations.
The ME5 Series represents a significant update over the legacy ME4 Series with higher per-port bandwidth (32Gb FC vs 16Gb), NVMe SSD support, enhanced ADAPT RAID algorithms for faster rebuild, and a redesigned management interface. The dual active/active controllers with 16 GB of cache each ensure continuous access if a controller fails.
The PowerVault ME5024 is particularly well-suited to organisations running VMware, Microsoft Hyper-V, or RHEL KVM that need a dedicated SAN rather than using local DAS — providing centralised storage management, volume-level snapshots, and replication for backup or DR without the cost and complexity of an enterprise SAN platform.
