Dell PowerScale H7000 High-Capacity Hybrid NAS Node
High-Capacity Hybrid NAS — 1.9 PB per Chassis, 24 TB HDD, SSD Cache, OneFS
The Dell PowerScale H7000 is a high-capacity hybrid NAS chassis housing 4 nodes in a 4U enclosure. With up to 24 TB HDDs and SSD caching per node, it stores up to 1.9 PB per chassis and participates in the same OneFS global namespace as F710 all-flash nodes — delivering cost-effective capacity for warm data tiers, archive, and long-term retention.
4 nodes per 4U chassis — up to 1.9 PB raw per chassis
12, 16, 20, or 24 TB HDD options per node
3.2 TB or 7.68 TB SSD cache per node (1 or 2 drives)
384 GB ECC memory per node
2 × 100GbE or 2 × 25GbE front-end networking per node
OneFS 9.10 or later — unified namespace with F710 all-flash nodes
SmartTiering — auto-migrate cold data from F710 to H7000 nodes
N+2 to N+4 node failure tolerance across the cluster
Four H7000 nodes in a single 4U chassis with 24 TB HDDs provides 1.9 PB raw per chassis — among the highest capacity densities in the scale-out NAS market. Clusters of 252 nodes span hundreds of petabytes in a single namespace.

Intelligent SSD Caching
Up to two SSD cache drives (7.68 TB each) per node accelerate frequently accessed files. OneFS automatically determines which files benefit from SSD cache placement — no manual tiering policies required.
🔗
Unified Namespace with F710
H7000 and F710 nodes participate in the same OneFS cluster and global namespace. SmartTiering transparently moves data between tiers based on access frequency — clients always access data through the same path regardless of which node type stores it.
🌐
Multi-Protocol Access
Simultaneous NFS, SMB, HDFS, and HTTP/S access from a single namespace. H7000 clusters serve as cost-effective shared storage for Hadoop analytics, archival workflows, and general file services.
🛡️
Enterprise Resilience
N+2 to N+4 node failure tolerance ensures data availability even when multiple nodes fail simultaneously. SyncIQ replication to a remote cluster provides DR. SnapshotIQ provides near-instant local recovery.
📉
Cost-Effective Warm Tier
H7000 delivers high capacity at a lower $/TB than all-flash nodes — making it the ideal warm tier for data that is accessed weekly or monthly rather than continuously, while still performing better than traditional NAS.
About the Dell PowerScale H7000
The Dell PowerScale H7000 is the high-capacity hybrid member of the PowerScale portfolio. It pairs large-capacity HDDs (up to 24 TB per drive, up to 96 drives per chassis) with NVMe SSD caching to deliver cost-effective petabyte-scale NAS performance for warm data tiers.
In a mixed cluster with F710 all-flash nodes, the H7000 forms the capacity tier while F710 provides the performance tier. OneFS SmartTiering manages the data movement policy — files that have not been accessed in a configurable number of days are automatically moved from F710 nodes to H7000 nodes, freeing flash capacity for hot data without any disruption to clients.
The 4-nodes-per-chassis design is a space and power efficiency feature: a single H7000 chassis consumes one power and cooling footprint while housing four independent node compute/memory environments. Nodes can be upgraded individually within a chassis as drive capacity options evolve.

📊
Hadoop & Big Data Analytics
HDFS-compatible storage for Spark and Hadoop analytics jobs — H7000 provides the cost-effective capacity tier while F710 nodes serve hot datasets.

Tiered NAS with F710
Combined with F710 nodes in the same cluster, H7000 forms the capacity tier in a cost-optimised two-tier NAS strategy managed by SmartTiering.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Can H7000 nodes be added to an existing F710 cluster?
Yes — PowerScale supports mixed node types in the same cluster. Adding H7000 nodes to an F710 cluster immediately expands the global namespace and enables SmartTiering between the node types.
Q. What is the maximum single cluster size combining F710 and H7000?
A single OneFS cluster supports up to 252 nodes total. This can be any mix of F710, H7000, and other PowerScale node types — all sharing a single global namespace.
Q. How does SSD caching work on the H7000?
OneFS automatically populates SSD cache drives with frequently accessed data segments. The cache is transparent to clients — files are always accessed via the same path regardless of whether they are cached in SSD or on HDD.
