The HPE Alletra Storage MP B10000 represents a fundamental shift in enterprise storage architecture. Unlike traditional appliance-based storage, the B10000 adopts a disaggregated design powered by AMD EPYC embedded processors — allowing compute, storage, and networking to be scaled independently based on real workload requirements. This eliminates the common problem of overprovisioning one resource tier to gain capacity in another.
At its core, the B10000 is a universal storage platform. The same hardware supports file storage (NFS/SMB), block storage (iSCSI, Fibre Channel), and object storage (S3-compatible) simultaneously through software personas managed via HPE GreenLake Cloud. Organisations can consolidate separate file and block storage systems onto a single, efficient platform, reducing complexity and management overhead.
The addition of NVMe-over-TCP (NVMe-oF/TCP) brings NVMe performance to standard Ethernet networks. Unlike NVMe-oF over Fibre Channel or InfiniBand — which require expensive dedicated hardware — NVMe/TCP operates over existing 10/25GbE infrastructure, delivering high throughput and sub-millisecond latency without specialist networking investments.
