The Supermicro SYS-821GE-TNHR is the company's air-cooled 8U flagship GPU SuperServer for AI training, large language model (LLM) development, and high-performance computing. It supports 8 NVIDIA HGX H100 (80GB) or H200 (141GB) SXM GPUs in a configuration that operates in standard data centre air-cooling without liquid cooling distribution infrastructure.
All eight GPUs are connected via NVIDIA NVLink 4.0 with NVSwitch, delivering 900 GB/s all-to-all GPU bandwidth within the node. Combined with PCIe 5.0 x16 CPU-to-GPU interconnect and support for 400GbE/NDR InfiniBand network cards in all available expansion slots, the SYS-821GE-TNHR is designed to participate in large multi-node AI training clusters.
Host compute is provided by dual 5th or 4th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors (up to 64 cores, 128 threads, 320MB LLC per socket), supported by 32 DIMM slots for up to 8TB of DDR5 ECC memory at 5600MT/s. This memory subsystem is sized to handle multi-terabyte model checkpoints and training dataset prefetching without CPU bottlenecks.
Power delivery uses six redundant 3,000W Titanium (96% efficiency) power supplies in 4+2 configuration, handling the combined TDP of dual CPUs and 8 HGX GPUs. Platform management is handled by an integrated BMC with IPMI 2.0, supporting SMCI's SuperDoctor and third-party monitoring integrations. Security features include Silicon Root of Trust per NIST 800-193, cryptographically signed firmware, Secure Boot, and supply chain remote attestation.
