Where the HPE 3PAR StoreServ 7000 (7200 / 7400 / 7450 / 7200c / 7400c / 7440c / 7450c) stands today
HPE handles the 3PAR 7000 as one family, so there is no SKU-by-SKU lookup. Notice a00008513, last revised as version 4 on 4 January 2024, announced end of life on 30 April 2017. Discontinuance came on 31 July 2017, after which orders were met from inventory, and obsolescence, the last day to purchase a storage system, on 31 October 2017. Upgrade node pairs, drive enclosures, adapters and drives stayed on sale until 31 October 2020, though HPE noted it could end sales of specific drives earlier, and add-on 3PAR software licences until 31 October 2021. The family's End of Engineering Support and End of Service/Support Life both arrived on 31 October 2022, nearly four years ago.
In HPE's words, its Technology Services would support 7000 hardware and software 'until the end of engineering support', and HPE 'will support HPE 3PAR StoreServ 7000 Storage systems under warranty or service contract until 31 October 2022'. Warranty was capped too: warranty on 7000 upgrade hardware components 'will not extend beyond 31 October 2022', and HPE Renew systems sold after obsolescence carried a warranty of three years or until the 7000's End of Support, whichever came first. Even a Renew system bought late in that period therefore lost its HPE warranty no later than 31 October 2022.
HPE publishes these dates family-wide in notice a00008513 (EOSL 31 Oct 2022 for every 7000/7000c model): https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/api/document/a00008513en_us. No per-serial date extends HPE support beyond that.
What still works after HPE support ends
The software position is fixed. The notice says the 7000 'will not be supported with any HPE 3PAR OS versions released after HPE 3PAR OS 3.3.1', so 3.3.1 with its patches and MUs is the last release qualified for the family, and HPE says customers must check the 3.3.1 support matrix on SPOCK before upgrading. Interoperability runs on the same clock: support with servers, host operating systems, HBAs and switches 'will be governed by the end of engineering support for the last HPE 3PAR OS version that supports' the 7000, and HPE engineering supported that version on the 7000 only until 31 October 2022.
With both hardware and software support tied to that date, an array still in production that needs maintenance cover has to find it outside HPE. A third-party contract generally supplies fault diagnosis, replacement parts and engineers, working with the 3PAR OS release already installed rather than extending HPE's software support; HPE third-party maintenance explains how those arrangements are set up.
- The last 3PAR OS version qualified for the 7000 family is HPE 3PAR OS 3.3.1, with its patches and MUs. HPE says the 7000 'will not be supported with any HPE 3PAR OS versions released after HPE 3PAR OS 3.3.1'. Customers must check the 3.3.1 support matrix on SPOCK before upgrading. (support.hpe.com)
- HPE engineering supported the last qualified 3PAR OS version on the 7000 only until 31 Oct 2022. HPE says interoperability support with servers, host operating systems, HBAs and switches 'will be governed by the end of engineering support for the last HPE 3PAR OS version that supports' the 7000. What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the HPE 3PAR StoreServ 7000 (7200 / 7400 / 7450 / 7200c / 7400c / 7440c / 7450c)
Start a 3PAR 7000 contract schedule from the node count. The 7200 and 7200c have two controller nodes; the 7400, 7400c and 7440c have two or four, and a two-node base can take an upgrade node pair. The Gen4 ASIC count matches the node count. A two-node base is a 2U enclosure with 24 SFF bays, a four-node base 4U with 48. Processors run from two four-core 1.8 GHz parts in the 7200 to up to four eight-core 2.3 GHz parts in the 7440c, and on-node cache from 24 GiB on the 7200 to 192 GiB on a four-node 7440c, plus optional flash cache of up to 3,000 GiB on the 7440c.
Each node pair has four built-in 8Gb FC ports with SFPs included, and each node one PCIe slot for 8Gb or 16Gb FC, 10Gb iSCSI/FCoE, 10GbE or 1GbE adapters, giving up to 12 host ports on the 7200/7200c and 24 on the 7400, 7400c and 7440c. Drives sit in M6710 2U SFF or M6720 4U LFF enclosures of up to 24 drives each, with as many as 38 add-on enclosures on a 7440c. HPE's notice warns that replacing a failed drive 'may require a firmware upgrade on a case-by-case basis', so with no 3PAR OS beyond 3.3.1 a maintainer has to source drives that work at the installed OS level. Each array also needs its own HPE 3PAR Service Processor for remote monitoring and servicing, either the virtual SP free with the base 3PAR OS on VMware or Hyper-V, or the physical QR516C. The storage and SAN maintenance page outlines how cover for arrays like this is scoped.

Extend or refresh the HPE 3PAR StoreServ 7000 (7200 / 7400 / 7450 / 7200c / 7400c / 7440c / 7450c)?
Independent maintenance on a 3PAR 7000 holds up best where the array is stable on its installed 3PAR OS release, its hosts, HBAs and switches are not changing, and its data could be moved promptly if a replacement part took time to find. Secondary roles suit that pattern better than primary production, since HPE's interoperability support for attached servers, host operating systems, HBAs and switches was tied to engineering support that ended on 31 October 2022.
HPE's own named replacement path has closed. The EOL notice named the 3PAR StoreServ 8200, 8400 and 8450 as replacements, with online data migration through 3PAR Peer Motion, but HPE's 8000 QuickSpecs (c04607918) is marked RETIRED and its base products obsolete, so the named successor is no longer a refresh option. HPE has likewise retired the 7000 QuickSpecs (c04164476, last version 56, 1 October 2018). An owner who needs vendor-supported software and current host interoperability therefore needs a different, current platform and a migration plan of its own.
- HPE's notice warns that drive replacements after failures 'may require a firmware upgrade on a case-by-case basis'. HPE engineering support has ended and the family gets no 3PAR OS beyond 3.3.1. A maintainer therefore has to source replacement drives that work at the array's installed 3PAR OS level. (support.hpe.com)
- HPE says warranty on 7000 upgrade hardware components 'will not extend beyond 31 October 2022'. HPE Renew systems carried 3 years or until the 7000's End of Support, whichever came first. (support.hpe.com)
- HPE's EOL notice named the 3PAR StoreServ 8200, 8400 and 8450 as replacements, with online data migration using 3PAR Peer Motion. That family is itself retired: HPE's 3PAR StoreServ 8000 QuickSpecs (c04607918) is marked RETIRED and says its base products are obsolete, so the named successor is no longer a refresh option. (support.hpe.com)
- Original HPE warranty: 3 years on-site, with 7x24 4-hour remote response and next-business-day on-site response. The listed SSDs carried 5 years parts-only, and other drives 3 years parts-only. HPE has retired the 7000 QuickSpecs (c04164476, last version 56, 1 Oct 2018) and marks its base products obsolete. (support.hpe.com)

Questions people ask about the HPE 3PAR StoreServ 7000 (7200 / 7400 / 7450 / 7200c / 7400c / 7440c / 7450c)
Is the HPE 3PAR 7000 end of life?
Yes, and it is past HPE end of support. HPE announced end of life for the whole 7000 and 7000c family on 30 April 2017, made 31 October 2017 the last day to purchase a storage system, and set End of Service/Support Life at 31 October 2022.
When did HPE stop supporting the 3PAR 7200 and 7400?
On 31 October 2022. Notice a00008513 puts both End of Engineering Support and End of Service/Support Life on that day for every 7000 model, and says HPE supported the systems under warranty or service contract until then.
What is the last 3PAR OS version for the StoreServ 7000?
HPE 3PAR OS 3.3.1, with its patches and MUs. HPE states the 7000 will not be supported with any 3PAR OS version released after 3.3.1 and says customers must check the 3.3.1 support matrix on SPOCK before upgrading. HPE engineering support for that version on the 7000 ended on 31 October 2022.
What replaced the 3PAR StoreServ 7000?
HPE's end-of-life notice named the 3PAR StoreServ 8200, 8400 and 8450, with online data migration through 3PAR Peer Motion. HPE has since retired the 8000 QuickSpecs and marks its base products obsolete, so that named successor is no longer a refresh option.
Can I get third-party maintenance for a 3PAR 7400?
Third-party contracts typically cover fault diagnosis, spare parts and engineers for hardware past the vendor's end of support. For a 7000, state the model, node count, enclosure count, host adapters and Service Processor type, and give the installed 3PAR OS level so replacement drives can be matched to it. The general terms of such contracts are described under what third-party maintenance covers.
