Where the HPE Nimble Storage CS-Series (hybrid) stands today
For the CSx000 arrays, the dates come from HPE's end-of-life update of 4 September 2018. HPE announced end of life on 7 May 2018 for the CS1000H, CS1000, CS3000, CS5000 and CS7000. Discontinuance and obsolescence both fell on 31 October 2019, obsolescence being the last day to buy a storage system, subject to inventory availability. The end-of-sale date for hardware upgrades (controllers, capacity, cache, shelves and networking) was 31 October 2022, though HPE noted it might end specific components earlier because of supply-chain constraints. End of Engineering Support and End of Service/Support Life then coincided on 31 October 2024; HPE's wording was that it would support Nimble Storage hardware and software until the end of engineering support.
The older models are covered by separate HPE notices. HPE's end-of-availability notice set the last order date for the CS215, CS235, CS300, CS500 and CS700 at 10 November 2016 and the last shipment at 10 December 2016, with end of support due five years after last shipment; HPE published 31 December 2021 as the EOS date for those arrays and the ES1 shelves. Neither group needs a per-unit lookup, because HPE gave model-wide dates: read the model name from the array, or from NimbleOS or InfoSight, and match it to the right notice.
No per-unit lookup is needed for the end-of-support date, because HPE published model-wide dates. For CS1000H/CS1000/CS3000/CS5000/CS7000, EOS was 31 Oct 2024 (https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=nmscext-0082en_us&docLocale=en_US). For CS215/CS235/CS300/CS500/CS700, EOS was 31 Dec 2021 (https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=nmscext-0064en_us&docLocale=en_US). Check the model name on the array, or in NimbleOS/InfoSight, against these two notices.
What still works after HPE support ends
HPE's EOS announcement for the CSx000 spells out what stops. Support contracts and SLAs are no longer valid; InfoSight, case automation and other services stop functioning; and HPE will not supply replacement parts for failed components, troubleshoot, or assist with sanitising, re-imaging or migrating data off the arrays. HPE itself therefore offers no break/fix route for a CSx000 array, and warranty on CSx000 upgrade components, which depended on purchase date, could not extend beyond 31 October 2024.
Under HPE's NimbleOS policy for the CSx000, customers with a current support agreement received major, minor, maintenance and patch releases for five years from the hardware's last shipment, after which those releases stopped. At EOS, HPE says it will not release additional software with fixes or enhancements for these models, that groups containing any EOS product cannot be updated, and that it will not release NimbleOS builds to let EOS arrays update for a group merge or data migration. For the CS215, CS235, CS300, CS500 and CS700, HPE announced the same core rules (no further software, no troubleshooting, no updates for groups containing EOS products) from 31 December 2021. A CS-Series array left in a group with newer Nimble systems therefore blocks updates to that whole group.
- Once the hardware reaches EOS, HPE says it will not release additional software with fixes or enhancements for these models. What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the HPE Nimble Storage CS-Series (hybrid)
With HPE no longer supplying parts, a third-party contract on a CSx000 array has to source everything in the 4U chassis. Each chassis holds two controllers running active/standby, with only one active at a time, and each controller has its own fans and NVDIMM; two power supplies sit alongside them. The head carries 21 HDDs, in packs from 1 TB to 10 TB, plus three SSD cache drives, except on the CS1000H, which takes 11 HDDs and two SSDs.
Expansion reaches six ES2-H hybrid shelves, no more than three per SAS port, plus one ES2-AFS2 all-flash shelf, for up to 1,470 TB raw on the CS3000, CS5000 and CS7000. Host connectivity starts at two 10GbE ports per controller, with PCIe options for 1GbE, 10GBASE-T, 10GbE SFP+ and 16Gb FC, up to six 16Gb FC ports per controller on the CS5000 and CS7000. The CS215, CS235, CS300, CS500 and CS700 are dual-controller base arrays with two 1GbE ports. With no new NimbleOS coming, the contract has to work with the release already installed. Storage and SAN maintenance describes how cover of this kind is scoped.

Extend or refresh the HPE Nimble Storage CS-Series (hybrid)?
Running a CS-Series array beyond EOS is workable in a narrow set of conditions: it stands alone or in a group that never needs updating, its NimbleOS release is stable for the workload, monitoring no longer relies on InfoSight, and a third-party contract supplies the parts. Secondary duties such as backup targets, archive or test fit that profile better than a primary production tier. Expansion is limited for some older models: HPE set the ES1 shelf's last purchase date at 31 January 2019 and said the CS2x0, CS215 and CS4x0 would have no expansion shelf option once ES1 was obsolete, while for the CS235, CS300, CS500 and CS700 it said in October 2018 that it would add ES2 shelf support, expected in early 2019 with an updated NimbleOS.
Refresh is the stronger case wherever the array holds production data or shares a group with newer systems, because HPE ships no further fixes and will not help migrate the data off. Look closely at what HPE named as replacements for the CSx000: the Gen5 Adaptive Flash HF20, HF20C, HF20H, HF40 and HF60 are themselves end of life, with End of Engineering Support and EOSL on 31 July 2028. HPE names the Alletra 6000 and Alletra 5000 as their replacement families, and version 2 of HPE's end-of-life notice for those arrays (25 August 2026) offers cross-family upgrades to Alletra 5000 for the HF20, HF20C, HF40, HF40C, HF60 and HF60C until 31 July 2028. A used HF20, HF20C, HF20H, HF40 or HF60 therefore has HPE's EOSL of 31 July 2028 ahead of it, so check any refurbished HPE Nimble arrays against those dates.
- At EOS, HPE states that support contracts and SLAs are no longer valid and that HPE InfoSight, case automation and other services stop functioning. HPE also will not supply replacement parts for failed components, troubleshoot, or assist with sanitising, re-imaging or migrating data off EOS arrays, so HPE itself offers no break/fix route for these arrays. (support.hpe.com)
- Warranty on CSx000 upgrade hardware components depended on purchase date and could not extend beyond 31 Oct 2024. (support.hpe.com)
- HPE's named replacements for the CSx000 (the Gen5 HF20/HF20C/HF20H/HF40/HF60 Adaptive Flash arrays) are themselves end of life, with End of Engineering Support and EOSL on 31 Jul 2028. HPE names the Alletra 6000 and Alletra 5000 as their replacement families, and (per version 2 of the notice, 25 Aug 2026) offers cross-family upgrades to Alletra 5000 for HF20, HF20C, HF40, HF40C, HF60 and HF60C until 31 Jul 2028. (support.hpe.com)
- For legacy arrays, HPE set the ES1 shelf's last purchase date at 31 Jan 2019 and said (Oct 2018) it would add ES2 shelf support for CS235, CS300, CS500 and CS700 base arrays, expected in early 2019 with an updated NimbleOS. HPE stated that the CS2x0, CS215 and CS4x0 would have no expansion shelf option once ES1 is obsolete. (support.hpe.com)

Related models
Within the CS-Series, HPE's end-of-availability notice for the CS215, CS235, CS300, CS500 and CS700 named the CS1000/H, CS3000, CS5000 and CS7000 as their replacements, so the two groups on this page are predecessor and successor, both now past EOS. HPE's other storage lines run on separate notices and dates; the HPE MSA 2050 end of life and HPE 3PAR StoreServ 8000 end of life pages cover two of them.
- HPE MSA 2040 end of lifePast the vendor’s last date of support

Questions people ask about the HPE Nimble Storage CS-Series (hybrid)
Is the Nimble CS-Series end of life?
Yes, and past end of support. HPE's EOS for the CS1000H, CS1000, CS3000, CS5000 and CS7000 took effect on 31 October 2024, and for the CS215, CS235, CS300, CS500 and CS700 on 31 December 2021. Both dates cover hardware and software support.
When did HPE stop supporting the Nimble CS3000, CS5000 and CS7000?
On 31 October 2024. HPE's 2018 end-of-life update set both End of Engineering Support and EOSL for the CSx000 arrays on that date, and a later HPE Services announcement confirmed EOS for the arrays and their ES2 and AFS2 shelves as of the same day.
Can I still update NimbleOS on a CS-Series array?
Not with new releases from HPE. For the CSx000, HPE's EOS terms rule out further software carrying fixes or enhancements, block updates to any group that contains an EOS product, and exclude NimbleOS builds that would let EOS arrays update for a group merge or data migration. HPE announced the same core rules for the CS215, CS235, CS300, CS500 and CS700 from 31 December 2021.
Does InfoSight still work on an end-of-support Nimble CS array?
For the CS1000H, CS1000, CS3000, CS5000 and CS7000, HPE's EOS announcement states that InfoSight, case automation and other services stop functioning at EOS, and that support contracts and SLAs are no longer valid. Any such array kept in service needs local monitoring and alerting in its place.
Can I get third-party maintenance for a Nimble CS-Series array?
HPE supplies no replacement parts for the CSx000 arrays after EOS, which is the gap third-party maintenance is used to fill: it generally covers diagnosis, replacement parts and engineer attendance for hardware the vendor no longer supports. Note the model, shelf count, cache SSDs and host cards, then ask for a price via the maintenance coverage builder.
