Where the HPE 3PAR StoreServ 8000 stands today
Two HPE milestones for the 3PAR StoreServ 8000 are on public record, both quoted word for word from notice a00111060 by an HPE Pro-badged staff member on HPE's Community forum on 28 December 2021. The EOL period began on 15 February 2021, and HPE offered the 8000 systems 'until August 31, 2021 (subject to inventory availability)', dates that cover the whole family. The same quoted text says HPE will support 8000 hardware and software 'until the end of engineering support', but the date of that milestone sits in the full notice, '(Revision) HPE 3PAR 8000 Storage Systems - End-of-Life Announcement', which needs an HPE Support Center sign-in to read.
Two public pointers exist, though neither is HPE's own date. Park Place's EOSL library, a third-party tracker, lists EOSL for all four models as 31 August 2026. In a December 2021 post in the same forum thread, an HPE Pro-badged staff member wrote that HPE support on 8000 hardware and software 'is available until at least 31-Aug-2026'; the forum states that posts are personal opinions rather than official HPE statements, and 'at least' marks a minimum, not an end date. To pin down your own array, sign in to HPE Support Center and read notice a00111060, then check the serial number in HPE's Warranty Check. The quoted notice adds that government or contractually obligated entities may have different milestone dates, so public-sector owners should ask HPE which apply.
HPE publishes the family dates in Customer Notice a00111060, '(Revision) HPE 3PAR 8000 Storage Systems - End-of-Life Announcement' (https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=a00111060en_us&docLocale=en_US). Reading it requires signing in to HPE Support Center with an HPE account. Contract or warranty coverage for a specific array is checked by serial number in HPE Support Center's Warranty Check (https://support.hpe.com/connect/s/warrantycheck). Public-sector buyers should ask HPE about the different milestone dates the notice allows for government or contractually obligated entities.
What still works after HPE support ends
The quoted notice text does not say what HPE provides after the end of engineering support, so get anything further confirmed by HPE in writing. When checked on 8 October 2026, HPE's 3PAR Operating System download page said 'HPE needs to verify your support level to access this download': 3PAR OS downloads on HPE Support Center are entitlement-gated.
Every 8000 requires its own HPE 3PAR Service Processor (SP), either a virtual SP included free with the 3PAR OS or a physical SP, and HPE uses it for remote monitoring and servicing of the array, so its status matters when HPE support ends. Confirm which type you run, and put a physical SP on the maintenance schedule. HPE's original warranty was three years on-site for hardware, while SSDs carried five years parts-only and other drives three years parts-only, so confirm SSD warranty status with HPE rather than assuming every part of the array is out of warranty.
- HPE's EOL notice, as quoted by HPE staff, says HPE will support 3PAR StoreServ 8000 hardware and software 'until the end of engineering support'. The quoted text does not say what HPE provides after that date. (community.hpe.com)
- HPE 3PAR OS downloads on HPE Support Center are entitlement-gated. When checked on 2026-10-08, the HPE 3PAR Operating System download page said 'HPE needs to verify your support level to access this download'. (support.hpe.com)
What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the HPE 3PAR StoreServ 8000
A 3PAR 8000 maintenance schedule starts with the model and node count. The 8200 has two controller nodes; the 8400, 8440 and 8450 have two or four, since one upgrade node pair beyond the base is supported. Each node pair is a 2U enclosure with 24 SFF drive bays, and each node carries one HPE 3PAR Gen5 ASIC. On-node cache runs from 64 GiB on the 8200 to up to 384 GiB on a four-node 8440 or 8450. Optional flash cache, up to 768 GiB on the 8200, 1,536 GiB on the 8400 or 8,000 GiB on the 8440, belongs on the schedule where fitted; the all-flash 8450 has none.
Every node pair has four built-in 16Gb FC ports, and 16Gb or 32Gb FC, 10Gb iSCSI or 10Gb FCoE adapters allow up to 12 host ports on the 8200 or 24 on the 8400, 8440 and 8450; each node also has one built-in 1GbE port for management and one for Remote Copy over IP. Drive enclosures hold up to 24 drives each, in 2U for SFF or 4U for LFF. Power Cooling Modules are AC (100-240 VAC), with an optional -48 VDC module (P9M65A, -40 to -72 VDC) supported on any 8000 model, two per enclosure. List adapter types, enclosure count, drive mix, PCM type and any Remote Copy links; storage and SAN maintenance and what third-party maintenance covers explain the general terms.

Extend or refresh the HPE 3PAR StoreServ 8000?
Keeping a 3PAR 8000 on third-party maintenance is defensible where the array is stable, its installed 3PAR OS release meets the workload's needs, Remote Copy partners are not changing, and the business accepts that OS updates depend on HPE entitlement. In that case the decision is mainly about parts and engineers.
The case for refresh rests on uncertainty as much as on age. HPE's own end-of-support date is not publicly visible, the 31 August 2026 EOSL date in Park Place's tracker has passed, HPE has retired the 8000 QuickSpecs (c04607918, V43, 23 May 2022), and 3PAR OS downloads require a verified support level. HPE's EOL notice, as quoted by HPE staff, recommended HPE Primera or HPE Nimble Storage as the upgrade paths for the 8000. Whichever route is chosen, settle the migration plan and the cover for the overlap period together; refurbished storage is one way to add interim capacity while data moves.
- Each 3PAR StoreServ 8000 requires its own HPE 3PAR Service Processor, either a virtual SP (included free with the 3PAR OS) or a physical SP. HPE uses it for remote monitoring and servicing of the array, so the SP's status matters when HPE support ends. (support.hpe.com)
- Original HPE warranty: 3-year on-site hardware warranty with 7x24 4-hour remote response and next-business-day on-site response. SSDs carry 5 years parts-only and other drives 3 years parts-only. (support.hpe.com)
- The quoted EOL notice says milestone dates may differ for government or contractually obligated entities, so a public-sector 8000 could carry different HPE dates from the commercial ones. (community.hpe.com)
- On HPE's Community forum in Dec 2021, an HPE Pro-badged staff member wrote that HPE support on 3PAR StoreServ 8000 hardware and software 'is available until at least 31-Aug-2026'. The forum states that posts are personal opinions, not official HPE statements, and the wording is a minimum, not an end-of-support date. (community.hpe.com)
- An HPE Pro-badged staff member on HPE Community (15 Sept 2024) listed the 3PAR EOL notices by document ID: 8000 = a00111060, 9450 = a00119073, 20800/20840/20850 = a00047279, 20450/20800 R2/20840 R2/20850 R2 = a00119074, 7000/7000c = a00008513. Use this list when asking HPE or a reseller for the exact notice. (community.hpe.com)
- HPE has retired the 3PAR StoreServ 8000 QuickSpecs (c04607918, V43, 23 May 2022). It is marked RETIRED and states the base products are obsolete. (support.hpe.com)

Related models
The StoreServ 8000 family puts four models under one notice: the two-node 8200, the 8400 and 8440, and the all-flash 8450. For the wider 3PAR range, an HPE Pro-badged staff member listed the EOL notice numbers on HPE Community on 15 September 2024: 8000 is a00111060, 9450 is a00119073, 20800/20840/20850 is a00047279, 20450 and the R2 20800/20840/20850 is a00119074, and 7000/7000c is a00008513. Because HPE named Nimble Storage as one upgrade path, anyone weighing a used Nimble array should also read HPE Nimble Storage CS-Series (hybrid) end of life, which covers the hybrid CS-Series.

Questions people ask about the HPE 3PAR StoreServ 8000
Is the HPE 3PAR StoreServ 8000 end of life?
Yes. HPE Customer Notice a00111060, as quoted by HPE staff, started the EOL period on 15 February 2021, and HPE offered the 8000 systems until 31 August 2021, subject to inventory availability. Both dates cover the 8200, 8400, 8440 and 8450.
When does HPE stop supporting the 3PAR 8200 and 8400?
HPE's end-of-support date sits in notice a00111060, which needs an HPE Support Center sign-in, so it is not publicly confirmed. Park Place's third-party EOSL library lists 31 August 2026, now passed, and a December 2021 forum post by HPE staff, which the forum treats as personal opinion, said support was available until at least that date. Confirm the position for your serial number with HPE.
Can I still download 3PAR OS for an 8000?
Downloads are entitlement-gated: on 8 October 2026 HPE's 3PAR Operating System download page said 'HPE needs to verify your support level to access this download'. If you plan to fit the optional -48 VDC Power Cooling Module, it needs 3PAR OS 3.3.1 MU2 or later.
What did HPE recommend instead of the 3PAR 8000?
HPE's end-of-life notice, as quoted by HPE staff, recommended HPE Primera or HPE Nimble Storage as the upgrade paths for the 8000. Plan data migration and any Remote Copy relationships alongside that choice.
Can I get third-party maintenance for a 3PAR 8000?
Independent maintenance generally provides fault diagnosis, replacement parts and engineers for arrays approaching or past the vendor's end of support. For a 3PAR 8000, include the model, node count, host adapters, drive enclosures, PCM type and Service Processor in the request, and start with the maintenance coverage builder.
