Where the IBM Storwize V7000 Gen2 / Gen2+ stands today
The two control enclosures had different lives. The Gen2 2076-524 reached general availability on 6 June 2014, was withdrawn from market on 14 March 2017 and passed its end-of-support transition on 31 December 2022 (letter 76930). The Gen2+ 2076-624 arrived on 9 September 2016, was withdrawn from market on 11 February 2020 and passed the same milestone on 31 December 2024 (letter 78376). IBM's pages for both letters are dead links on ibm.com, so what IBM offered for the 524 and 624 afterwards cannot be read from them, and IBM is the place to ask.
The 12F, 24F and 92F expansions left the market on the same day as the 624 and kept IBM support a year longer, to 31 December 2025. Letter AD24-0701, published on 30 July 2024, set that date and states no term for what follows: 'If available, clients will continue to receive limited hardware maintenance service as described in the "Hardware Service Extension" section of your terms with IBM'. Read each enclosure's MTM from its label (2076-524 is Gen2, 2076-624 is Gen2+), look it up in IBM Product Lifecycle, and note IBM's warning that 'Announcement letter dates are US only'. A 2076-U7A Storage Utility model needs checking under its own MTM, as its date is not given here.
IBM publishes one date per machine type-model. Read the MTM from the enclosure label (2076-524 = Gen2, 2076-624 = Gen2+) and search for it in IBM Product Lifecycle at https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/lifecycle/. Check control and expansion enclosures separately: the 524 ended 31-Dec-2022, the 624 ended 31-Dec-2024, and the 12F/24F/92F ended 31-Dec-2025. The lifecycle pages note that 'Announcement letter dates are US only'.
What still works after IBM support ends
IBM support for the highest code these controllers can run has also ended. IBM's interoperability matrix supports the 524 through V8.4.0 but states that '2076-524 is not supported by 8.4.0.12 and later. 8.4.0.11 is the last PTF update for this model.' The 624 is supported through V8.4.0 and not on V8.4.1 or later, and the expansions through V8.5.4 but not on V8.6.0 or later. IBM's software lifecycle lists Spectrum Virtualize Software 8.4.0 (PID 5639-CB8, commented 'for Storwize V7000 Controller Software') with 'Transition to Extended/Sustained or End of Support' and 'Completion of Extended, Sustained, Extension availability' both on 31 December 2024.
Downloading code is a separate gate: Fix Central releases Power Systems and System Storage machine code to IBM machines covered by warranty or by an IBM hardware maintenance service agreement, some exceptions aside, and without an IBM sign-in it could not be established whether machine type 2076 is one of them. Alerting changes too. Per IBM's Redbook, Call Home is for a V7000 under an IBM maintenance contract or inside its warranty period, so fault alerts need another route before the system moves to other cover.
- Code ceilings in IBM's hardware interoperability matrix: the 2076-524 is supported through V8.4.0, but '2076-524 is not supported by 8.4.0.12 and later. 8.4.0.11 is the last PTF update for this model.' The 2076-624 is supported through V8.4.0 and not on V8.4.1 or later. The 12F/24F/92F expansions are supported through V8.5.4 and not on V8.6.0 or later. (ibm.com)
- IBM Fix Central: 'Machine Code updates for Power Systems and System Storage are available for IBM machines that are under warranty or an IBM hardware maintenance service agreement. Some exceptions apply.' Whether these machine types are among the exceptions could not be checked without signing in. (ibm.com)
What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the IBM Storwize V7000 Gen2 / Gen2+
Every Gen2 and Gen2+ control enclosure holds two node canisters and 24 x 2.5-inch drive slots, with integrated dual power supplies and a battery. The 524 and 624 part company on cache, 32 or 64 GB per control enclosure against 64, 128 or 256 GB, and on host ports: IBM's Redbook table gives the 524 4 x 16 Gb FC, 4 x 1 Gb plus 4 x 10 Gb iSCSI and 4 x 12 Gb SAS, and the 624 16 x 16 Gb FC, 6 x 1 Gb plus 8 x 10 Gb iSCSI and 4 x 12 Gb SAS, with iSER when a 25 Gb Ethernet card is fitted. The Redbook calls the 2076-U7A utility model physically and functionally identical to the 624, so its parts list matches.
Shelves follow strict rules. The 2076-12F (12 x 3.5-inch, 2U), 24F (24 x 2.5-inch, 2U) and 92F (92-drive, 5U dense drawer) attach to the 524 and 624 only; a Gen2 control enclosure takes up to 20 expansion enclosures, or up to four dense drawers, over 12 Gbps SAS; a system holds one to four control enclosures; and the software refuses expansion enclosures of a different generation from the control enclosures, so a replacement shelf has to match. List each enclosure by MTM and serial with its cache, host cards and drives; what third-party maintenance covers sets out the usual scope.

Extend or refresh the IBM Storwize V7000 Gen2 / Gen2+?
A Gen2+ (624) system on 8.4.0, serving a workload that needs no new storage features and whose data has an exit plan, is the strongest case for extending. With controllers and shelves both past IBM's dates, the decision is about who repairs it rather than about waiting for further IBM code. An alternative to IBM hardware maintenance is generally built around fault diagnosis, replacement parts and engineer call-outs, and leaves the code on the array as it is.
The 524 is harder to justify keeping. It passed its IBM date at the end of 2022, its code stops at 8.4.0.11, and the 8.4.0 release itself completed IBM's extended availability on 31 December 2024. IBM's named path runs from the 524 to the 624, itself past IBM support since the end of 2024, and from the 624 to the FlashSystem 7300 (4657-924). The 7300 is not a settled target either: its own lifecycle page, as updated on 2 March 2026, put its withdrawal from market at 30 June 2026, a date that has now passed, so confirm IBM's current range before fixing on a target. For the expansions, AD24-0701 names the FlashSystem 7000 expansions 4657-12G, 24G and 92G.
- IBM's software lifecycle lists IBM Spectrum Virtualize Software 8.4.0 (PID 5639-CB8, commented 'for Storwize V7000 Controller Software') with 'Transition to Extended/Sustained or End of Support' and 'Completion of Extended, Sustained, Extension availability' both on 31-Dec-2024. 8.4.0 is the highest code level these controllers can run. (ibm.com)
- IBM's Redbook says: 'You can use the Call Home function if you have a maintenance contract with IBM or if the IBM Storwize V7000 is within the warranty period.' (redbooks.ibm.com)
- Letter AD24-0701 (scope: 2076-12F/24F/92F expansions) names FlashSystem 7000 expansions 4657-12G/24G/92G as replacements. It says that after EOS, 'If available, clients will continue to receive limited hardware maintenance service as described in the "Hardware Service Extension" section of your terms with IBM'. No term is stated. (ibm.com)
- IBM's lifecycle page for the FlashSystem 7300 (4657-924), the replacement IBM names for the 2076-624, shows it withdrawn from market on 30-Jun-2026 (page last updated 02-Mar-2026). (ibm.com)
- The 2076-U7A Storage Utility model is physically and functionally identical to the 2076-624 (Redbook), so the same parts and contract considerations apply. (redbooks.ibm.com)

Related models
The Gen2 came after IBM's first-generation V7000 (2076-112, 124, 312 and 324), which IBM's Redbook says is not supported by Spectrum Virtualize V8.1, its last supported version being V7.8. Two other IBM storage families have pages in this series, the Storwize V5000 Gen2 (V5010 / V5020 / V5030) and the FlashSystem 5030 / 5100, and the storage end-of-life checker covers further arrays.

Questions people ask about the IBM Storwize V7000 Gen2 / Gen2+
When did IBM end support for the Storwize V7000 Gen2?
For the Gen2 control enclosure, 2076-524, IBM's lifecycle page gives 'Transition to End of Support Services' as 31 December 2022. The Gen2+ (2076-624) followed on 31 December 2024 and the 12F, 24F and 92F expansions on 31 December 2025.
Is the Storwize V7000 2076-624 still supported by IBM?
IBM's lifecycle page for the 2076-624 shows its end-of-support transition on 31 December 2024, so that date has passed. The letter behind it, 78376, is no longer reachable on ibm.com, so confirm with IBM what limited service, if any, is available now. Third-party maintenance is another route for hardware repair.
What is the last firmware for the V7000 2076-524?
IBM's interoperability matrix says '8.4.0.11 is the last PTF update for this model' and that the 524 is not supported by 8.4.0.12 and later. The Gen2+ 624 also stops at V8.4.0, and IBM's software lifecycle shows Spectrum Virtualize 8.4.0 completing extended availability on 31 December 2024.
What replaced the Storwize V7000 Gen2+?
IBM's lifecycle page names the FlashSystem 7300 (4657-924) as 'Recommended replacement' for the 2076-624. The FlashSystem 7300's own page shows it withdrawn from market on 30 June 2026, so ask IBM about current models before planning around it.
Can V7000 Gen2 expansion shelves be used with other controllers?
IBM's Redbook says the 2076-12F, 24F and 92F attach to the 2076-524 and 2076-624 only, and that the software refuses expansion enclosures of a different generation. For the shelves themselves, letter AD24-0701 names FlashSystem 7000 expansions 4657-12G, 24G and 92G as replacements.
