What IBM ServicePac is — and where it stops
IBM sells post-warranty hardware cover as ServicePac and Maintenance Agreement contracts: a Warranty Service Upgrade to lift base entitlement, then ServicePac On-Site NBD or the faster On-Site 24×7×4, with Enhanced Technical Support available on top. It works — but it renews at IBM list price, and IBM withdraws support on older machine types aggressively, so cover you rely on can simply end.
Servnet replaces the hardware side of that contract: engineer attendance, break-fix labour, spare parts and on-site SLAs, including years after IBM's end-of-support date. We are straight about the split — third-party maintenance does not supply IBM's software or firmware updates or security patches. Those remain tied to your IBM software entitlement, and we will tell you plainly where you still need it.
IBM OEM support vs Servnet TPM

| Hardware break-fix & parts | Covered while contract runs | Covered — UK-stocked spares |
| On-site response | On-Site NBD or 24×7×4 | NBD to same-day, matched to your SLA |
| Cover past end-of-support | Withdrawn on older machine types | Continues — typically 3–5, up to 7 years |
| Software / firmware / patches | Included via IBM entitlement | Not supplied — stays with IBM |

IBM Support Alternative — FAQs
No. Servnet is an independent third-party maintenance provider, not IBM. We replace the hardware break-fix element of a ServicePac or Maintenance Agreement — engineer attendance, spare parts and on-site SLAs — usually at a lower cost. We are not IBM and do not resell IBM's own ServicePac; we are the alternative to it for the hardware you own.
Gartner's 2019 Market Guide puts third-party hardware maintenance at 50–70% off OEM support net prices, and that band is our indicative basis. The real figure depends on your kit, age and SLAs, so we never quote a fixed IBM saving up front. We work it out against your actual renewal in a free audit — every number is indicative until then.
Those stay with IBM. Third-party maintenance covers hardware break-fix, spares and on-site response — it does not supply IBM's OS, microcode or firmware updates or security patches, which are tied to your IBM software entitlement. We are deliberately clear about this split and will tell you where you still need an IBM software agreement rather than imply we replace it.
Yes — that is a core reason customers come to us. IBM withdraws hardware support on older machine types aggressively, but the equipment often runs reliably for years more. Third-party providers report extending supported life by 3–5, and sometimes up to 7, years. These are indicative ranges; we assess each machine type and spares position before committing to an SLA.
Power servers; FlashSystem, Storwize and DS storage; legacy System x; and System z by assessment. We can put a mixed IBM estate under one contract with a single point of contact, which usually removes several separate ServicePac line items. If you have a specific machine type, send us the model and we will confirm coverage and spares availability.
