The FortiSwitch 524D is part of the FortiSwitch 500 series, designed for campus aggregation and distribution layer deployments. With 24 × GE RJ45 access ports, 4 × 10GE SFP+ distribution uplinks, and 2 × 40GE QSFP+ core uplinks, it provides flexible connectivity for three-tier campus network designs.
The combination of GE RJ45 access ports and high-speed uplinks (10GE SFP+ and 40GE QSFP+) makes the FS-524D well suited for collapsed distribution/core roles where access, distribution, and limited core functions are combined in a single device. Layer 3 routing capabilities (OSPF, BGP) enable inter-VLAN routing without a dedicated router.
