The HPE SimpliVity 380 Gen11 represents the latest generation of HPE's enterprise hyperconverged infrastructure platform, built on the HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen11 — one of the world's best-selling 2U rack servers. Released in 2023, the Gen11 refreshes SimpliVity with Intel Xeon Scalable 4th Generation processors (Sapphire Rapids), DDR5 memory at 5600 MT/s, PCIe 5.0 connectivity, and support for 200GbE networking.
The defining capability of SimpliVity is its OmniStack software, which performs inline global deduplication and compression across all data in the cluster — including primary VM data, snapshots, and backup copies. This delivers verified 90% storage capacity savings (10:1 ratio) across combined storage and backup, making SimpliVity economical at scale. Crucially, this is inline processing: data is deduplicated before it is written to disk, meaning there is no performance penalty and savings are immediate from the first backup.
Integrated backup is a first-class feature of every SimpliVity node. Any VM can be backed up in a single click from VMware vCenter, with sub-60-second recovery regardless of VM size. Backup jobs have near-zero impact on production I/O performance — a fundamental advantage over separate backup appliances that must read all production data during backup windows. Backup copies can be automatically replicated to a secondary SimpliVity cluster for DR without additional backup software licences.
The Gen11 adds support for HPE SimpliVity Software 6.0, which introduces the option to deploy with HPE Morpheus VM Essentials as a KVM-based VMware cost reduction alternative — managed from a single console alongside existing VMware ESXi workloads. This gives organisations a migration path away from VMware licence cost increases, without forcing a single cut-over event.
