| End of Life (HPE staff forum answer, not an HPE notice): StoreOnce 3100 / 3520 / 3540 | 1 October 2018 | Third-party trackerPosted 24 Oct 2023 on the HPE Community forum by Mohammed_I, badge 'HPE PRO'. The poster's signature says the posts are not official statements on behalf of HPE. On 29 Oct 2024 the same poster said the data came from an internal HPE document. The three models share the same dates. No public HPE notice for Gen3 was located, so do not present this as an HPE-published date. | HPE Community forum: 'EOSL information for mention product' (thread 7199067), HPE staff answer |

| Obsolescence (OBS), HPE staff forum answer: StoreOnce 3100 / 3520 / 3540 | 30 April 2019 | Third-party trackerSame HPE staff post as above. Not an official HPE notice. | HPE Community forum: 'EOSL information for mention product' (thread 7199067), HPE staff answer |
| End of Product Division Support, HPE staff forum answer: StoreOnce 3100 / 3520 / 3540 | 30 April 2024 | Third-party trackerThis date has passed. It is not an End of Service Life (EOSL) date. In the same thread, HPE staff list the two separately: the StoreOnce 5660 has End of Product Division Support 30 Nov 2029 and End of Service Life 'TBD'. No EOSL date is given for any Gen3 model. Not an official HPE notice. | HPE Community forum: 'EOSL information for mention product' (thread 7199067), HPE staff answer |
| End of Life (HPE staff forum answer, not an HPE notice): StoreOnce 5100 | 1 October 2018 | Third-party trackerAccepted answer posted 17 Oct 2024 by sbhat09, badge 'HPE PRO', who states the comments are not an official representation of HPE. No HPE notice ID is cited. | HPE Community forum: 'End Of Life' (thread 7227358), HPE staff answer |
| Obsolete (end of sales), HPE staff forum answer: StoreOnce 5100 | 30 April 2019 | Third-party trackerThe same answer gives a discontinued (end of manufacturing) date of 31 May 2019. That falls after this obsolete date and conflicts with the 31 Mar 2019 given for the 3100/3520/3540, so the discontinued date is not used. Not an official HPE notice. | HPE Community forum: 'End Of Life' (thread 7227358), HPE staff answer |

| HPE End of Support Life: StoreOnce Gen3 (3100 / 3520 / 3540 / 5100 / 5500 / 6600) | — | Not published by the vendorNo public HPE document gives an EOSL date for any Gen3 model, and the HPE staff forum answers above give none either. HPE's current StoreOnce Systems QuickSpecs (c04328820, v60, 6 Apr 2026) lists only Gen5 and Gen4 Plus models. Its change log shows that Gen4 content was removed in Version 55 (7 Jul 2025), when Gen5 models were added. | HPE StoreOnce Systems QuickSpecs (c04328820, Version 60, 6 Apr 2026) |
| Third-party trackers: StoreOnce Gen3 models | — | Not published by the vendorPark Place's StoreOnce EOSL list shows only Gen4 models (3620, 3640, 5200, 5250, 5650; EOSL 04/30/2027) and no Gen3 model. eosl.date's HPE storage page (https://eosl.date/storage/vendor/hpe/) likewise lists only those Gen4 models plus the 5660. Where the HPE StoreOnce Gen3 (3100 / 3520 / 3540 / 5100 / 5500 / 6600) stands today
For the 3100, 3520 and 3540, an HPE PRO-badged staff member posted on 24 October 2023, citing an internal HPE document in a later reply: end of life 1 October 2018, discontinuance 31 March 2019, obsolescence 30 April 2019 and End of Product Division Support 30 April 2024. A separate accepted answer from another HPE PRO, posted on 17 October 2024, gives the 5100 end of life on 1 October 2018, obsolescence on 30 April 2019 and End of Product Support on 30 April 2024. Both posters say they are not speaking officially for HPE. Neither offers an End of Service Life date, and the first thread treats the two as separate milestones, listing the StoreOnce 5660 with End of Product Division Support on 30 November 2029 and End of Service Life 'TBD'. The 5500 and 6600 get no dates in either answer.
The two third-party trackers checked do not fill the gap. Park Place's StoreOnce EOSL list shows only Gen4 models, the 3620, 3640, 5200, 5250 and 5650, and eosl.date lists those Gen4 models plus the 5660; neither includes a Gen3 unit. HPE's current StoreOnce QuickSpecs (version 60, 6 April 2026) lists only Gen5 models (3720, 3760, 5720, 7700) and Gen4 Plus models (3660, 5260, 5660). To establish where your own appliance stands, ask HPE or your HPE partner for its EOSL status, quoting the serial number, or check its entitlement in the HPE Support Center, which needs a sign-in.
HPE has no public StoreOnce Gen3 end-of-life notice that could be read, and no third-party tracker checked lists Gen3. Ask HPE or your HPE partner for the EOSL status of your unit, quoting its serial number, or check its entitlement in the HPE Support Center (https://support.hpe.com, sign-in required). HPE staff answers on the HPE Community forum (thread 7199067 for the 3100/3520/3540; thread 7227358 for the 5100) give End of Product Division Support 30 Apr 2024, but say they are not official HPE statements.
What still works after HPE support ends
No HPE document read for this page says what HPE still provides for Gen3, so the answer for a given unit has to come from HPE. What Veeam documents is the software line. Veeam's Backup & Replication 12.1 release notes put Gen3 on StoreOnce software 3.18.x and required 3.18.18 or later for a Gen3 repository, warning that on older firmware 'backup jobs pointed to this repository will fail to start'. Which 3.18 build is the last for Gen3, and how it is obtained, is not confirmed here.
The firmest limits come from Veeam rather than HPE. Veeam Backup & Replication 13 (the page applies to build 13.1.1.18) lists StoreOnce Catalyst support only for software 4.3.2 or later on Gen4 and 5.1.0 or later on Gen5, so a Gen3 Catalyst target is not supported as a Veeam 13 repository. Veeam also requires StoreOnce 4.3.2 or later for immutability and Cloud Bank, and so lists no immutability support for Gen3. Hardware maintenance from any provider leaves both software limits where they are.
What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the HPE StoreOnce Gen3 (3100 / 3520 / 3540 / 5100 / 5500 / 6600)
This page gives no Gen3 hardware specification, because HPE's current StoreOnce QuickSpecs no longer contains Gen3 content and no Gen3 QuickSpecs or user guide could be found. A contract therefore has to be scoped from the appliance itself, starting with the exact model, because the generations are easily mixed up. IBM's StoreOnce configuration document (modified 30 March 2022) lists Gen3 as the 3100, 3520, 3540, 5100, 5500 and 6600 and Gen2 as the 2900, 4500, 4700, 4900 and 6500, and HPE's own QuickSpecs change log treats the 6500 and 6600 as separate products. On IBM's grouping, a unit labelled 6500 is Gen2, not Gen3.
Beyond the model, record the serial number, the installed StoreOnce software version, the backup applications writing to the appliance and the protocol each uses, such as Catalyst, then take the physical inventory from the unit itself. For how a provider scopes cover on backup and storage hardware, see storage and SAN maintenance; the usual contents of a contract, diagnosis, replacement parts and engineer visits, are set out in what third-party maintenance covers.
Extend or refresh the HPE StoreOnce Gen3 (3100 / 3520 / 3540 / 5100 / 5500 / 6600)?
Keeping a Gen3 appliance in service is easiest to defend when it holds a secondary copy rather than the only recovery point, and when the backup platform writing to it is staying on a version that still supports it. A Gen3 target on StoreOnce software 3.18.18 or later meets Veeam 12.1's stated minimum. In that position, independent hardware cover is a reasonable way to run the appliance while HPE confirms the unit's support status by serial number.
The refresh case is mainly a software one. Veeam 13 does not list Gen3 as a supported Catalyst repository, Veeam's immutability support needs StoreOnce 4.3.2 or later, which matters for ransomware-resilience requirements, and HPE's own position on Gen3 support is unconfirmed. The next models in the same line, Gen4 (3620, 3640, 5200, 5250 and 5650), are themselves under an HPE end-of-life announcement, PCN a00119288, and Park Place's tracker gives them an EOSL of 30 April 2027, so a like-for-like step to Gen4 lands on a platform already in its end-of-life period.
- Generation check: IBM's 'HPE StoreOnce Systems Configuration Information for IBM Spectrum Protect Server' (modified 30 Mar 2022) lists the Gen3 models as 3100, 3520, 3540, 5100, 5500 and 6600, and the Gen2 models as 2900, 4500, 4700, 4900 and 6500. The 6500 is therefore Gen2; the Gen3 flagship is the 6600. (ibm.com)
- HPE's own StoreOnce QuickSpecs change log treats the 6500 and 6600 as separate models: 'Update the firmware version number of the 6500 model' (Sep 2014) and 'Changes to the HPE StoreOnce 6600 purchasing information table' (Jan 2015). (support.hpe.com)
- Veeam Backup & Replication 12.1 required StoreOnce firmware 3.18.18 or later for Gen3 (4.2.3 for Gen4). Its release notes warn that on older firmware 'backup jobs pointed to this repository will fail to start'. (veeam.com)
- Veeam Backup & Replication 13 (page applies to build 13.1.1.18) lists StoreOnce Catalyst support only for 'software version 4.3.2 or later for Gen4, 5.1.0 or later for Gen 5'. Gen3 is not listed, so a Gen3 Catalyst target is not supported as a Veeam 13 repository. (helpcenter.veeam.com)
- Veeam requires StoreOnce software 4.3.2 or later for StoreOnce immutability and for Cloud Bank support. Veeam's 12.1 release notes put Gen3 on the 3.18.x line, so Veeam lists no immutability support for Gen3. This matters for ransomware-resilience requirements. (helpcenter.veeam.com)
- HPE has already put the Gen4 successors into end of life. PCN a00119288 is titled 'HPE StoreOnce 5650, 5250, 5200, 3640, and 3620 Systems End of Life Announcement', and its body requires sign-in. A like-for-like move from Gen3 to Gen4 therefore lands on a platform already in its EOL period. (support.hpe.com)
- An HPE staff answer on the HPE Community forum gives the Gen4 3620 and 5200 an End of Product Division Support date of 30 Apr 2027 (EOL 31 Oct 2021, obsolete 30 Apr 2022) and refers to advisory a00119288. This is not an official HPE statement. (community.hpe.com)
- HPE's current StoreOnce QuickSpecs (v60, 6 Apr 2026) lists Gen5 models (3720, 3760, 5720, 7700) and Gen4 Plus models (3660, 5260, 5660) as the current range. (support.hpe.com)

StoreOnce Gen3 is a backup-appliance line rather than a primary array. By IBM's generation grouping it follows Gen2 (2900, 4500, 4700, 4900 and 6500), and within Gen3 the evidence is uneven: the 3100, 3520 and 3540 share one set of HPE staff forum dates, the 5100 has its own, and the 5500 and 6600 have none. An HPE staff forum answer, again not an official statement, gives the Gen4 3620 and 5200 an End of Product Division Support date of 30 April 2027. HPE's primary storage families have their own entries in the storage end-of-life checker.

Questions people ask about the HPE StoreOnce Gen3 (3100 / 3520 / 3540 / 5100 / 5500 / 6600)
Is the HPE StoreOnce 3540 end of life?
No public HPE end-of-life notice for the 3540 could be found. An HPE staff member on the HPE Community forum, who says the posts are not official HPE statements, gives the 3100, 3520 and 3540 an end-of-life date of 1 October 2018 and End of Product Division Support on 30 April 2024. No End of Service Life date is given, so confirm the unit's status with HPE using its serial number.
What is the end-of-support date for the StoreOnce 5100?
There is no HPE-published date that could be read. An accepted answer from HPE staff on the HPE Community forum, given as unofficial, lists End of Product Support for the 5100 as 30 April 2024, and it is not presented as an End of Service Life date. Ask HPE or your HPE partner to confirm the support status for your serial number.
Is the StoreOnce 6500 a Gen3 model?
No. IBM's StoreOnce configuration document lists the 6500 as Gen2, alongside the 2900, 4500, 4700 and 4900, and gives the Gen3 models as the 3100, 3520, 3540, 5100, 5500 and 6600. HPE's QuickSpecs change log also treats the 6500 and 6600 as separate models.
Does Veeam 13 support StoreOnce Gen3?
Not as a Catalyst repository. Veeam's Backup & Replication 13 requirements page, which applies to build 13.1.1.18, lists StoreOnce Catalyst support only for software 4.3.2 or later on Gen4 and 5.1.0 or later on Gen5; Gen3 is not listed. Under Veeam 12.1, a Gen3 repository needed StoreOnce 3.18.18 or later.
Can I get third-party maintenance for a StoreOnce Gen3 appliance?
Independent hardware maintenance usually means fault diagnosis, replacement parts and engineer visits for the appliance itself, and a quote can be requested through the maintenance coverage builder. It does not change the backup software side, so Veeam's Gen3 limits stay as they are. Include the exact model, serial number and installed StoreOnce software version.
