The Cisco Firepower 3130 (FPR3130-ASA-K9) is the flagship model of the Firepower 3100 Series, delivering 35 Gbps of FTD throughput and 45 Gbps of NGIPS performance — making it the most powerful fixed-chassis Cisco NGFW below the modular FPR4100 and FPR9300 platforms. It is specifically designed for high-throughput data centre edges, large campus cores, and service provider internet gateways.

The defining capability of the FPR3130 is its 2 × 40G QSFP+ uplinks — the only model in the 3100 Series with 40G connectivity. These ports connect directly to 40G spine switches, core routers, or high-bandwidth ISP handoffs, enabling full NGFW inspection at 40G line rates without requiring expensive 100G platforms. Alongside the QSFP+ ports, 4 × 10G SFP+ and 24 × 1G RJ45 provide comprehensive interface density for multi-zone data centre architectures.

With 24 million concurrent sessions — the highest of any fixed-chassis Cisco Firepower appliance — the FPR3130 does not compromise on session table headroom. This is critical in large data centres where hundreds of thousands of short-lived microservice connections, TCP sessions, and stateful UDP flows can quickly exhaust smaller session tables. The 18 Gbps TLS decryption capability ensures full visibility into encrypted east-west and north-south traffic at 40G speeds.

Running ASA software, the FPR3130 delivers an impressive 65 Gbps of stateful inspection with active/active high availability. For organisations transitioning from legacy ASA or running FTD, the FPR3130 supports active/standby HA with full state synchronisation. Managed by Cisco Secure Firewall Management Center or Cisco Defense Orchestrator, it integrates seamlessly with the broader Cisco Secure portfolio.
