The Cisco Firepower 4100 Series is a family of high-performance, modular next-generation firewall appliances spanning four models: FPR4110 (20 Gbps FTD), FPR4115 (30 Gbps FTD), FPR4145 (60 Gbps FTD), and FPR4150 (80 Gbps FTD). These appliances are designed for large enterprise data centres, service provider internet gateways, and cloud provider peering edges that demand both high throughput and advanced security inspection.
The defining characteristic of the FPR4100 Series is its modular network interface card architecture. Unlike the fixed-interface 1000/2100/3100 Series, the FPR4100 accepts field-replaceable NIC modules that can be populated with 1G, 10G, 25G, 40G, or 100G QSFP28 interfaces — allowing the same chassis to adapt as network speeds evolve. This protects the hardware investment over multi-year refresh cycles.
All FPR4100 models support Cisco's chassis clustering technology, enabling up to 16 chassis to be grouped into a single logical firewall with distributed state — delivering terabit-class aggregate throughput for the largest deployments. Multi-instance mode is also supported, enabling a single physical chassis to run multiple isolated FTD instances — ideal for managed security service providers (MSSPs) or organisations with strict security zone segregation requirements.
Running Cisco FTD software, all FPR4100 models deliver the full Cisco security stack: NGIPS with Talos intelligence, application visibility and control, URL filtering, Advanced Malware Protection, Encrypted Traffic Analytics, and identity-aware policy via Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) integration. Centralised management is provided by Cisco Secure Firewall Management Center (FMC) or Cisco Defense Orchestrator (CDO) in the cloud.
