Where the UCS B200 M5 Blade Server stands today
EOL15068 was announced on 1 May 2023, with the blade's End-of-Sale date on 30 October 2023 and its last ship date on 28 January 2024. On 29 October 2024 Cisco ended routine failure analysis and new service attachment, so a B200 M5 that is not already covered cannot be put on a Cisco contract. The renewal window for blades already on Cisco contracts closes on 25 January 2028, and the security milestone and the end of all support share a single date, 31 October 2028.
Cisco ties these dates to the product ID, not the serial, and Table 2 of EOL15068 is the reference: UCSB-B200-M5, -M5-U, -M5-U-BR, -M5-CH and -M5=, the 10-pack, the UCSB-B200M5-RSV1x ready-to-ship configurations, the UCS-SP-B200M5 bundles and the Cisco+ PLHC SKUs. The support URL is a trap: it now opens the B-Series series page, which shows End-of-Sale 31 December 2025, End-of-Support 31 December 2030 and a series release date of 30 March 2009, none of them the B200 M5's own. Contract cover for a given blade is checked by serial, or a CSV of serials, in Cisco's Device Coverage Checker after a Cisco account sign-in.
Cisco's dates apply model-wide, by PID, not per serial. Match your blade's PID (UCSB-B200-M5, -M5-U, -M5-U-BR, -M5-CH, -M5=, UCS-SP-B200M5-xxx or UCSB-B200M5-RSV1x) to Table 2 of bulletin EOL15068 (https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/servers-unified-computing/ucs-b-series-blade-servers/ucs-m5-blade-server-b200-eol.pdf). Use that bulletin, not the B200 M5 support URL, which now shows B-Series series-level dates. The 5108 chassis has its own dates in EOL15630. Contract coverage for your own unit is per serial: Cisco's Device Coverage Checker (https://cway.cisco.com/sncheck/) checks service contract coverage by serial number or a CSV of serials, and needs a Cisco account sign-in. Its description mentions contract coverage only, not end-of-life status.
What still works after Cisco support ends
After 29 October 2026 the blade's software support narrows to planned security remedies, which can continue until 31 October 2028. The owner of a blade without a contract can ask Cisco TAC for a free software update, quoting the advisory URL, wherever a Cisco security advisory offers one, typically for Critical or High issues and decided case by case. After 31 October 2028, Cisco's policy has PSIRT accept a vulnerability report on the B200 M5 without analysing, fixing or disclosing it, and without issuing a CVE.
TAC support for a blade also hinges on the fabric above it. Per EOL15068, UCS 6200 Series Fabric Interconnects have been end-of-support from 31 May 2024, and M5 servers attached to 6200 FI domains need to move to newer FIs to keep TAC support. Cisco's listed targets are 6400 or 6536 FIs and, for 5108 chassis with 22xx IOMs, 6400 or 6300 FIs, or 6536 FIs once the IOM-22xx has been replaced with an IOM-2408.
- Cisco's End of SW Maintenance Releases for the B200 M5 is 29 Oct 2026. After that date no further maintenance releases or bug fixes are due for this blade. Planned security remedies can continue until 31 Oct 2028 (End of Vulnerability/Security Support). (cisco.com)
- Where a Cisco security advisory offers a free software update (typically Critical/High, at Cisco's discretion case by case), a customer without a contract can request it from Cisco TAC with the advisory URL. After the Last Date of Support (31 Oct 2028), PSIRT accepts reports but will not analyse, fix or disclose vulnerabilities, and issues no CVEs. (sec.cloudapps.cisco.com)
- EOL15068 states that UCS 6200 Series Fabric Interconnects went end-of-support from 31 May 2024. UCS M5 servers connected to 6200 FI domains need to migrate to newer FIs for continued TAC support. Cisco lists these options: 6400 or 6536 FIs; for 5108 chassis with 22xx IOMs, 6400 or 6300 FIs, or 6536 FIs after replacing the IOM-22xx with an IOM-2408. (cisco.com)
Vendor support you can still buy
- Cisco Support (Smart Net Total Care before 15 June 2025): renewal of existing contracts — Existing contracts can be renewed or extended until 25 Jan 2028 (End of Service Contract Renewal), and only for blades already under contract, because new attachment closed on 29 Oct 2024. Coverage ends on 31 Oct 2028. (cisco.com)
What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the UCS B200 M5 Blade Server
Maintenance on a B200 M5 has two layers: the half-width blade itself and the Cisco UCS 5108 Blade Server Chassis it is built for, whose UCSB-5108-AC2 PID has its own bulletin, EOL15630, and its own dates. Inside the blade sit one or two Intel Xeon Scalable processors and 24 DDR4 DIMM slots for 16, 32, 64 or 128 GB modules at up to 2933 MHz, reaching 3 TB with 128 GB DIMMs; 12 of those slots also accept Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory in 128, 256 or 512 GB sizes, for up to 6 TB.
Local storage is two hot-pluggable, front-access 2.5-inch drives, HDD, SSD or NVMe, plus either two internal SD cards or up to two M.2 SATA drives. Connectivity and expansion depend on three positions: an mLOM slot for a VIC 1440 or 1340; a rear mezzanine for a VIC 1480 or 1380, a port expander, an NVIDIA P6 GPU or a blade NVMe storage card; and a front mezzanine for the FlexStorage 12G SAS RAID controller, a FlexStorage NVMe/pass-through module or an NVIDIA P6 GPU. Management is through Cisco Intersight, UCS Manager or UCS Central. Recording each blade's mezzanine fit, SD or M.2 option and drive type gives server third-party maintenance a precise scope to quote against.

Extend or refresh the UCS B200 M5 Blade Server?
With planned security remedies due until 31 October 2028, keeping B200 M5 blades on maintenance through that window is reasonable. For blades on Cisco contracts, EOL15068 makes moving the domain off 6200 Series fabric interconnects a condition of continued TAC support, and that cover can be renewed until 25 January 2028. For blades without it, unable to join a Cisco contract since 29 October 2024, third-party cover such as an alternative to Cisco SmartNet generally handles diagnosis, parts and engineer visits, and it can continue past a vendor's end of support.
The refresh case starts with the software calendar: bug fixes stop after 29 October 2026 and Cisco support ends altogether on 31 October 2028. EOL15068 names the B200 M6 (UCSB-B200-M6) or UCS X210c M6 and X210c M7 compute nodes as successors, but the B200 M6 has itself been end of sale since 31 December 2025, with a Last Date of Support of 31 December 2030 under EOL15630, and Cisco maps it in turn to X210c M7/M8 compute nodes. That bulletin also maps the UCSB-5108-AC2 chassis to the UCS X9508.
- End of SW Maintenance Releases is 29 Oct 2026, three weeks after 2026-10-08. After that date, only planned security remedies (until 31 Oct 2028) are due for the B200 M5. (cisco.com)
- New service attachment closed on 29 Oct 2024, so an uncovered B200 M5 cannot be added to a Cisco contract. Existing contracts can be renewed until 25 Jan 2028 and run to the Last Date of Support (31 Oct 2028). (cisco.com)
- The 5108 chassis has later Cisco dates than the blade. The UCS 5108 Blade Server Chassis (UCSB-5108-AC2) went end-of-sale on 31 Dec 2025, with Last Date of Support 31 Dec 2030 (EOL15630). Cisco maps it to the UCS X9508 chassis. (cisco.com)
- The B200 M6, one of the replacements Cisco named for the B200 M5, is itself end-of-sale (31 Dec 2025, LDoS 31 Dec 2030, EOL15630). Cisco maps the B200 M6 to UCS X210c M7/M8 compute nodes. (cisco.com)
- EOL15068 states that UCS 6200 Fabric Interconnects went end-of-support from 31 May 2024, so M5 servers in 6200 FI domains need to move to newer FIs for continued TAC support. Cisco lists non-disruptive migrations to 6300/6400 or 6536 FIs. (cisco.com)
- Scope trap: Cisco's B200 M5 support URL now serves the series page 'Cisco UCS B-Series Blade Servers'. That page shows End-of-Sale 31-DEC-2025 and End-of-Support 31-DEC-2030, with a 'Series Release Date' of 30-MAR-2009. These are B-Series series-level dates, not the B200 M5's own dates (those are in EOL15068). (cisco.com)

Questions people ask about the UCS B200 M5 Blade Server
Is the UCS B200 M5 end of life?
It is end of sale, with an End-of-Sale date of 30 October 2023, but not yet past its Last Date of Support, which bulletin EOL15068 sets at 31 October 2028. Blades already under a Cisco contract can keep Cisco support until then.
Why does Cisco's B200 M5 support page show 2030?
The B200 M5 support link now opens Cisco's B-Series series page rather than a page for the blade. The End-of-Sale date of 31 December 2025 and End-of-Support date of 31 December 2030 shown there match EOL15630, the bulletin for the B200 M6 and the 5108 chassis. The blade's own Last Date of Support, from EOL15068, is 31 October 2028.
Will the B200 M5 get firmware updates after October 2026?
Only planned security remedies are due after Cisco's End of SW Maintenance Releases date of 29 October 2026, and those can continue until 31 October 2028. General maintenance releases and bug fixes for the blade stop at the October 2026 date.
What replaced the Cisco B200 M5?
Cisco's bulletin for the blade points to two options: the B200 M6 (UCSB-B200-M6), or UCS X210c M6 and X210c M7 compute nodes. The B200 M6 itself went end of sale on 31 December 2025, and Cisco maps it to X210c M7/M8 compute nodes.
Can I get third-party maintenance for B200 M5 blades?
A blade without Cisco cover has been unable to join a Cisco contract since the 29 October 2024 attachment cut-off, and third-party maintenance is one alternative: fault diagnosis, replacement parts and engineer attendance, with cover that can run beyond Cisco's 31 October 2028 Last Date of Support. Scope the quote to each blade's mezzanine cards, drives and memory, and say separately whether the 5108 chassis is included.
