Fortinet FortiGate 100E end of life

The main FortiGate 100E SKUs are past End of Support: Fortinet's public hardware lifecycle feed gives the FG-100E and the FG-100EF fibre variant an End of Support date of 17 August 2026, and the FG-101E storage variant an earlier one, 15 July 2026. FortiOS 7.2, the last software branch these three SKUs run, reached its own End of Support on 30 September 2026. Only regional -LENC and -USG versions of the 100E remain inside Fortinet support.

FortiGate 100E support dates

Every row names its basis. A third-party tracker date is not the vendor’s own, and “not published” means exactly that.

Where the FortiGate 100E stands today

For the three base SKUs, every Fortinet hardware milestone has now passed. The FG-100E and FG-100EF reached End of Order on 17 August 2021 and their Last Service Extension Date on 17 August 2025; the FG-101E's equivalent dates were 15 July 2021 and 15 July 2025. Fortinet's Product Lifecycle Policy (version 3.00, June 2025) states that once End of Support has passed, Fortinet 'will not sell, manufacture or improve the product and is under no obligation to provide support services', and it bars extending any service contract beyond that date. The same document says Fortinet may continue services beyond the standard periods and reserves the right to charge additional fees, so any continuation is at Fortinet's discretion and may cost extra.

In Fortinet's feed, FG-100E-LENC, FG-101E-LENC and FG-101E-USG have End of Support on 30 May 2027, though their Last Service Extension Dates passed on 30 May 2026. FG-100E-USG and FG-100EF-USG last longest, to 14 January 2028, with a Last Service Extension Date of 14 January 2027. A 100E's date therefore turns on the suffix of its product number, not on its serial number: identify the exact SKU first, then find that item in Fortinet's Hardware.xml RSS feed, which is public, or on the login-only Product Life Cycle page in FortiCare.

Finding the date for your own unit

Fortinet publishes dates per SKU, not per serial number. First identify the exact SKU of the unit. FG-100E, FG-100EF and FG-101E each have their own dates, as do the -LENC and -USG variants. Then look it up in Fortinet's public hardware lifecycle RSS feed at https://support.fortinet.com/rss/Hardware.xml, which needs no login, or on the Product Life Cycle page at https://support.fortinet.com/support/#/lifecycle, which needs a FortiCare login.

What still works after Fortinet support ends

FortiOS 7.2 is where the 100E stops. Fortinet's hardware feed gives 7.2.0 as the FG-100E's Last Supported Software Version, the FortiOS 7.2.13 release notes (build 1762) list the FG-100E, FG-100EF and FG-101E as supported models, and none of the three appears in the FortiOS 7.4.12 (build 2902) supported-model list. Fortinet's software lifecycle feed records 7.2 as released on 31 March 2022, with End of Engineering Support on 31 March 2025 and End of Support on 30 September 2026. FortiOS 7.2.13, first released on 29 January 2026, is the newest 7.2 build in Fortinet's document library.

Download rights depend on a contract: the FortiCare guide makes firmware images available 'only for registered products with an active support contract'. For the FG-100E, FG-100EF and FG-101E, hardware End of Support and FortiOS 7.2 End of Support have both passed, and the lifecycle policy keeps a Final Firmware Release in its urgent-fix phase only 'until the EOS date of the applicable hardware product'. Under the standard policy, that leaves no Fortinet route to new firmware or to contract renewal for those SKUs. Fortinet's PSIRT policy, for its part, defines its scope as 'All our products that have not reached End-of-Life (EoL) milestone'. Hardware maintenance cannot close the software gap: FortiOS firmware and FortiGuard security subscriptions come only from Fortinet and sit outside any third-party hardware contract.

  • Fortinet's FortiCare guide (FortiCloud 26.3.0) says: "Firmware image downloads are available only for registered products with an active support contract." (docs.fortinet.com)
  • Under Fortinet's lifecycle policy, after End of Support Fortinet "will not sell, manufacture or improve the product and is under no obligation to provide support services". No service contract may be extended past End of Support. The Final Firmware Release stays in the urgent-fix phase only "until the EOS date of the applicable hardware product". Fortinet may continue services beyond the standard periods and reserves the right to charge additional fees for doing so. What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the FortiGate 100E

Two rack-mount brackets and eight bracket screws come in the box, so the 100E can go in a rack. It has 16 GbE RJ45 Ethernet ports, with ports 15 and 16 shared with two 1Gbps SFP ports, plus GbE RJ45 WAN ports, an RJ45 DMZ port, RJ45 HA ports and an RJ45 MGMT port, along with an RJ45 console and one USB 3.0 port. Power comes through an AC inlet rated 100-240V AC, 50-60Hz, 2-1A, and there is an optional 12V DC, 5A connection for redundant power.

A maintenance schedule for a 100E should record which SFP modules sit in the shared ports, whether the redundant power connection is in use and whether the unit is one half of an HA pair. Network third-party maintenance generally provides diagnosis, replacement parts and engineers for hardware like this, including after the vendor's End of Support, but the cover stops at the hardware and does not bring back FortiOS updates. To price that cover, use the maintenance coverage builder.

Extend or refresh the FortiGate 100E?

Hardware maintenance on a 100E makes sense in narrow circumstances: a unit already running the latest 7.2 build its owner downloaded while under contract and kept in a role that is being wound down, or an FG-100E-USG or FG-100EF-USG, whose End of Support in Fortinet's feed is 14 January 2028. In those cases third-party cover can look after the chassis, ports and power while a replacement is budgeted and scheduled.

For most base FG-100E, FG-100EF and FG-101E units, the decision points to refresh. Both the hardware and its last FortiOS branch are past End of Support, and under the standard policy there is no further Fortinet firmware or contract route; for a firewall, that is the point to schedule replacement rather than defer it. The next model in the same line is the FortiGate 100F, but Fortinet's hardware feed shows the 100F reached End of Order on 16 April 2026, with End of Support on 16 April 2031, so it is no longer orderable new.

  • The FortiOS 7.2.13 (build 1762) release notes list FG-100E, FG-100EF and FG-101E as supported models. (docs.fortinet.com)
  • FortiOS 7.2.13, the newest 7.2 build in Fortinet's document library, had its initial release on 2026-01-29. (docs.fortinet.com)
  • FG-100E, FG-100EF and FG-101E are absent from the FortiOS 7.4.12 (build 2902) supported-model list, which is consistent with the Last Supported Software Version of 7.2.0 in Fortinet's hardware feed. (docs.fortinet.com)
  • Firmware downloads are tied to an active support contract. For the base FG-100E, FG-100EF and FG-101E SKUs, both the hardware End of Support and the FortiOS 7.2 End of Support have passed. Under the standard policy, there is no Fortinet route to new firmware or contract renewal; the policy reserves only a discretionary, fee-based continuation. (docs.fortinet.com)

The 100E family has three base members: the FG-100E, the FG-100EF fibre variant, which shares the FG-100E's dates, and the FG-101E storage variant, whose End of Support came earlier, on 15 July 2026. Regional -LENC and -USG SKUs carry the family's Fortinet support into 2027 and 2028. Dates for two other E-series models are on the FortiGate 200E end of life and FortiGate 60E end of life pages, and Fortinet hardware leads to the rest of the site's Fortinet coverage.

A dashed open end means no end date is published — not that support is indefinite. Component and accessory dates (a management controller, a power module) are not treated as the model's.

Questions people ask about the FortiGate 100E

Has the FortiGate 100E reached end of life?

Fortinet's public hardware lifecycle feed gives the FG-100E and FG-100EF an End of Support date of 17 August 2026 and the FG-101E 15 July 2026, so those SKUs are past vendor support. The regional -LENC and -USG SKUs run later, to 30 May 2027 or 14 January 2028 depending on the SKU.

Which FortiOS branch is the last for the FortiGate 100E?

FortiOS 7.2 is the last branch. The FG-100E's Last Supported Software Version in Fortinet's feed is 7.2.0, and the FG-100E, FG-100EF and FG-101E all appear in the 7.2.13 release notes but drop out of the FortiOS 7.4.12 supported-model list. The 7.2 branch itself reached End of Support on 30 September 2026.

Can I still get FortiOS updates for a FortiGate 100E?

Firmware downloads need a registered unit with an active support contract, under Fortinet's FortiCare guide. The FG-100E, FG-100EF and FG-101E are past End of Support, and no service contract may be extended beyond that date, so the standard policy leaves no route to new firmware for them. Fortinet's policy says it may continue services beyond the standard periods and reserves the right to charge additional fees for that. FortiOS firmware and FortiGuard security subscriptions are Fortinet-only; a third party cannot provide either.

Which FortiGate 100E SKUs does Fortinet still support?

Fortinet's feed lists FG-100E-LENC, FG-101E-LENC and FG-101E-USG with End of Support on 30 May 2027, and FG-100E-USG and FG-100EF-USG with End of Support on 14 January 2028. The first three passed their Last Service Extension Date on 30 May 2026; for FG-100E-USG and FG-100EF-USG it is 14 January 2027.

What is the next model after the FortiGate 100E?

The FortiGate 100F is the next model in the same line. Fortinet's hardware feed shows that the 100F itself reached End of Order on 16 April 2026 and has an End of Support date of 16 April 2031, so it is no longer orderable new.
