Where the FortiGate 60E stands today
Two of the base FG-60E's three Fortinet milestones are behind it. End of Order fell on 29 December 2021 and the Last Service Extension Date on 29 December 2025, so under Fortinet's standard policy a contract on that SKU can no longer be extended, and any contract still running cannot go beyond End of Support on 29 December 2026. The FG-60E-POE is at a different stage: Fortinet gives it End of Order on 14 October 2022, End of Support on 14 October 2027 and a Last Service Extension Date of 14 October 2026, which is the last day to extend an existing contract on that SKU.
In Fortinet's feed, FG-60E-DSLJ has End of Support on 2 May 2027 and FG-60E-USG on 30 May 2027, and both passed their extension dates in May 2026. FG-60E-LENC runs to 14 January 2028, FG-60E-DSL to 17 May 2028, FG-61E-USG to 15 July 2028 and FG-60E-POE-USG to 14 January 2029. With nine SKUs on different dates and none of them keyed to a serial number, the product number on the unit is what decides its date: Fortinet's public Hardware.xml lifecycle RSS feed lists each of these SKUs without a login, and a FortiCare account shows the same data on its Product Life Cycle page.
Fortinet publishes dates per SKU, not per serial number. First identify the exact SKU of the unit: FG-60E, FG-61E, FG-60E-POE, FG-60E-DSL, FG-60E-DSLJ, FG-60E-LENC, FG-60E-USG, FG-60E-POE-USG and FG-61E-USG all have different dates. Then look it up in Fortinet's public hardware lifecycle RSS feed at https://support.fortinet.com/rss/Hardware.xml, which needs no login, or on the Product Life Cycle page at https://support.fortinet.com/support/#/lifecycle, which needs a FortiCare login. Contract status, which governs firmware downloads, is shown against the registered unit in your FortiCare account.
What still works after Fortinet support ends
The 60E's software line ends at FortiOS 7.4. Fortinet's hardware feed records 7.4.0 as the base FG-60E's Last Supported Software Version, the FortiOS 7.4.12 release notes (build 2902) list FG-60E, FG-60E-DSL, FG-60E-DSLJ, FG-60E-POE and FG-61E as supported models, and the family is absent from the FortiOS 7.6.0 supported-model list. Fortinet's software feed gives the 7.4 branch End of Engineering Support on 11 May 2027 and End of Support on 11 November 2028, but that software date falls after the FG-60E's hardware End of Support, after which Fortinet has no obligation to support the hardware.
Fortinet's FortiCare guide limits firmware image downloads to 'registered products with an active support contract', and since the base SKU's extension date has passed, under the standard policy an FG-60E with no live contract cannot win that access back through a FortiCare extension. Under Fortinet's lifecycle policy the Final Firmware Release stays in an urgent-fix phase 'until the EOS date of the applicable hardware product', and the builds made in that phase cover only industry-wide critical issues plus medium, high and critical PSIRT vulnerabilities. No third party can supply FortiOS images or FortiGuard security subscriptions; neither falls under hardware maintenance.
- Fortinet's FortiCare guide (FortiCloud 26.3.0) says: "Firmware image downloads are available only for registered products with an active support contract." (docs.fortinet.com)
- Under Fortinet's lifecycle policy, the Final Firmware Release "remains in an urgent-fix support phase until the EOS date of the applicable hardware product". Urgent-fix builds cover only industry-wide critical issues and medium, high and critical PSIRT vulnerabilities. The source is Fortinet Product Lifecycle Policy 875-111 V3.00 (June 2025), Fortinet's own text read from an OCR'd scan annexed to a Moldovan public-tender (MTender) declaration. The official copy needs a FortiCare login. (storage.mtender.gov.md)
- The same lifecycle policy says that after End of Support, Fortinet "will not sell, manufacture or improve the product and is under no obligation to provide support services". No service contract may be extended past End of Support, and the LSED is twelve months before End of Support. Fortinet may continue services beyond the standard periods and reserves the right to charge additional fees for doing so. (storage.mtender.gov.md)
- Fortinet's PSIRT policy covers "All our products that have not reached End-of-Life (EoL) milestone", and Critical and High fixes go to "All supported versions". Advisories are public at https://fortiguard.fortinet.com/psirt. (fortiguard.com)
Vendor support you can still buy
- FortiCare extension of an existing contract, only on SKUs whose Last Service Extension Date has not passed — The LSED has already passed for FG-60E (2025-12-29), FG-61E (2025-07-15), FG-60E-DSLJ (2026-05-02) and FG-60E-USG (2026-05-30). LSEDs per Fortinet's feed for the remaining SKUs: FG-60E-POE 2026-10-14, FG-60E-LENC 2027-01-14, FG-60E-DSL 2027-05-17, FG-61E-USG 2027-07-15 and FG-60E-POE-USG 2028-01-14. The extension rule comes from Fortinet's lifecycle policy: an LSED applies to existing contracts, and no contract may run past End of Support. (support.fortinet.com)
What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the FortiGate 60E
The FG-60E and FG-61E have seven GbE RJ45 Ethernet ports (ports 1 to 7), GbE RJ45 WAN ports and an RJ45 DMZ port, plus an RJ45 console port and one USB 3.0 port, and they run on 12V DC from an external 100-240V AC adapter. The PoE model differs in both ports and power: its Ethernet ports 1 to 8 are GbE RJ45 with 802.3at PoE, up to a maximum of 75W across all ports, and it takes 54V DC from its own 100-240V AC adapter. Each can sit on any flat surface or be wall-mounted with the supplied hardware.
A contract for a mixed 60E estate should therefore list each unit by SKU and note which adapter it uses, because the 12V DC and 54V DC adapters are not the same item. Under hardware break-fix support, a third-party provider typically diagnoses the fault, supplies the replacement part and sends an engineer if one is needed, and that arrangement can outlast Fortinet's End of Support on any of these SKUs; it does not include FortiOS updates or FortiGuard services. A quote for each SKU can be requested through the maintenance coverage builder.

Extend or refresh the FortiGate 60E?
Under Fortinet's standard policy, an existing FortiCare contract can only be extended on 60E SKUs whose Last Service Extension Date has not passed. Fortinet's feed sets that date at 14 October 2026 for FG-60E-POE, 14 January 2027 for FG-60E-LENC, 17 May 2027 for FG-60E-DSL, 15 July 2027 for FG-61E-USG and 14 January 2028 for FG-60E-POE-USG; for FG-60E, FG-61E, FG-60E-DSLJ and FG-60E-USG it has already gone. A unit on one of the SKUs that can still be extended, with a current contract, can reasonably stay in service through its contract term, with hardware cover bridging to a planned replacement; on an FG-60E-POE, the extension has to be made by 14 October 2026.
The base FG-60E and the FG-61E are in a tighter position. The FG-61E is already past End of Support, and the FG-60E's End of Support date is 29 December 2026, after which, under its lifecycle policy, Fortinet is under no obligation to provide support services, while firmware downloads stay tied to a contract that can no longer be extended. That argues for planning a refresh before the December date and using hardware maintenance only to cover the gap. For anyone pricing that refresh, the FortiGate 60F is the next model in the same line.
- The FortiOS 7.4.12 (build 2902) release notes list FG-60E, FG-60E-DSL, FG-60E-DSLJ, FG-60E-POE and FG-61E as supported models. This is consistent with the Last Supported Software Version of 7.4.0 in Fortinet's hardware feed. (docs.fortinet.com)
- The FG-60E family is absent from the FortiOS 7.6.0 (build 3401) supported-model list. (docs.fortinet.com)
- FortiOS 7.4.12 is the newest 7.4 release in Fortinet's document library. Its initial release was 2026-05-07, and the release notes have been updated through 2026-10-07. (docs.fortinet.com)
- Firmware downloads require an active support contract, and the base FG-60E Last Service Extension Date (2025-12-29) has passed. Under the standard policy, a 60E without a live contract cannot regain firmware access through a FortiCare extension, and any contract still running cannot go beyond End of Support on 2026-12-29. (docs.fortinet.com)
- The wireless sibling, FortiWiFi-60E, is a separate SKU. It already reached End of Support on 2026-07-15 (EOO 2021-07-15). (support.fortinet.com)

Related models
Inside the 60E family, the FG-61E is the storage variant, the FG-60E-POE adds 802.3at PoE on its Ethernet ports, and the DSL, DSLJ, LENC and USG versions each carry their own Fortinet dates. Fortinet also dates the wireless FortiWiFi-60E on its own: its End of Order was 15 July 2021 and its End of Support 15 July 2026, so a site that pairs a 60E with a FortiWiFi-60E already has one unit outside Fortinet support. For the same Fortinet policy worked through other E-series SKU lists, see FortiGate 30E end of life and FortiGate 100E end of life.

Questions people ask about the FortiGate 60E
Is the FortiGate 60E still supported by Fortinet?
The base FG-60E reached End of Order on 29 December 2021, but Fortinet's public hardware lifecycle feed gives it an End of Support date of 29 December 2026, so it is still in vendor support. The FG-61E storage variant already reached End of Support on 15 July 2026.
When does support end for the FortiGate 60E-POE?
Fortinet lists End of Support for the FG-60E-POE on 14 October 2027, with a Last Service Extension Date of 14 October 2026, the last day an existing contract on that SKU can be extended. The FG-60E-POE-USG runs later, with End of Support on 14 January 2029.
What is the last FortiOS version for the FortiGate 60E?
Fortinet's hardware feed gives 7.4.0 as the FG-60E's Last Supported Software Version, and the FortiOS 7.4.12 release notes list the FG-60E, FG-60E-DSL, FG-60E-DSLJ, FG-60E-POE and FG-61E as supported. The family is not in the FortiOS 7.6.0 supported-model list. Any download still requires an active support contract on the registered unit.
Is third-party maintenance an option for a FortiGate 60E after 29 December 2026?
Third-party maintenance generally continues past a vendor's End of Support, providing diagnosis, replacement parts and engineers for the hardware. FortiOS firmware and FortiGuard security subscriptions stay outside it, since only Fortinet provides them. The 60E variants differ in ports and power, so a quote should be requested per SKU.
Which FortiGate came after the 60E?
The next model in the same line is the FortiGate 60F. Fortinet's website now redirects the address of the old 60E series datasheet to the 60F series datasheet.
