| End of Support: FortiOS 6.2 software branch (highest FortiOS branch whose release notes list FG-30E) | 28 September 2023 | Vendor-publishedThis is a software milestone, not the hardware one. FortiOS 6.2 was released on 2019-03-28 and reached End of Engineering Support on 2022-03-28. FortiOS 6.2.17 (build 1405, initial release 2025-05-27) still lists FG-30E as a supported model. Fortinet's lifecycle policy keeps a hardware product's Final Firmware Release in an urgent-fix phase until that hardware's End of Support (see firmwareAfterSupport). | Fortinet Product Lifecycle (Software) RSS feed, item FortiOS 6.2 (lastBuildDate 15 Sep 2026) |
Where the FortiGate 30E stands today
Among the variants, the FG-30E-3G4G-GBL shares all three milestones with the base FG-30E. The FG-30E-LENC sits later, with End of Order on 14 January 2023, a Last Service Extension Date of 14 January 2027 and End of Support on 14 January 2028. Three SKUs are already past End of Support in Fortinet's feed: the FG-30E-3G4G-NAM since 22 November 2023, the FG-30E-3G4G-INTL since 18 July 2024 and the FG-30E-USG since 16 April 2026.
Because the dates follow the SKU rather than the serial number, start by identifying the unit's exact SKU, then look it up in Fortinet's public Hardware.xml lifecycle RSS feed on support.fortinet.com, which needs no login, or on the Product Life Cycle page in FortiCare, which does. For the base FG-30E, the feed's Last Supported Software Version field reads N/A. Whether a unit still has an active contract, which governs firmware downloads, is shown against the registered product in FortiCare.
Fortinet publishes lifecycle dates per SKU, not per serial number. First identify the exact SKU of the unit. FG-30E and FG-30E-3G4G-GBL share dates, while FG-30E-3G4G-INTL, -3G4G-NAM, -LENC and -USG each have their own. Then find that SKU in Fortinet's public hardware lifecycle RSS feed at https://support.fortinet.com/rss/Hardware.xml, which needs no login. Each item there gives End of Order, Last Service Extension, End of Support and Last Supported Software Version. The same data is on the Product Life Cycle page at https://support.fortinet.com/support/#/lifecycle, which needs a FortiCare login. Whether your own unit still has an active contract, which governs firmware downloads, is shown against the registered product in your FortiCare account.
What still works after Fortinet support ends
On software, the 30E tops out at FortiOS 6.2. The FG-30E is missing from the FortiOS 6.4.0 (build 1579) supported-model list, and Fortinet's software lifecycle feed dates the 6.2 branch's End of Engineering Support to 28 March 2022 and its End of Support to 28 September 2023. Even so, the FortiOS 6.2.17 release notes (build 1405, first released on 27 May 2025) list the FG-30E, FG-30E_3G4G_INTL, FG-30E_3G4G_NAM and FG-30E-MG as supported models. Fortinet's lifecycle policy (version 3.00, June 2025) separately says that a hardware product's Final Firmware Release 'remains in an urgent-fix support phase until the EOS date of the applicable hardware product', with builds in that phase produced only for industry-wide critical issues and medium, high and critical PSIRT vulnerabilities.
Downloads depend on FortiCare: Fortinet's guide says 'firmware image downloads are available only for registered products with an active support contract'. With the base SKU's Last Service Extension Date gone, an FG-30E whose contract has lapsed cannot regain download access by extending it under the standard policy. Once End of Support passes, which for the base FG-30E is 31 March 2027, the policy says Fortinet 'will not sell, manufacture or improve the product and is under no obligation to provide support services', though it 'may continue to make services available beyond the standard periods' and 'reserves the right to charge additional fees'. FortiOS firmware and FortiGuard security subscriptions are Fortinet services rather than hardware maintenance, and no third party can supply them.
- Fortinet's FortiCare guide (FortiCloud 26.3.0) says: "Firmware image downloads are available only for registered products with an active support contract." (docs.fortinet.com)
- Under Fortinet's lifecycle policy, the Final Firmware Release (FFR) is "the last release of firmware operationally supported on a specific hardware product". The policy says the FFR "remains in an urgent-fix support phase until the EOS date of the applicable hardware product". In the urgent-fix phase, maintenance builds are produced only for industry-wide critical issues and for medium, high and critical PSIRT vulnerabilities. The source is Fortinet Product Lifecycle Policy 875-111 V3.00 (June 2025). This is Fortinet's own text, read from an OCR'd scan annexed to a Moldovan public-tender (MTender) declaration. The official copy at support.fortinet.com needs a FortiCare login, and the policy says its most current version applies. (storage.mtender.gov.md)
- The same lifecycle policy says that after End of Support, Fortinet "will not sell, manufacture or improve the product and is under no obligation to provide support services". It also says that "no service contracts may be extended past the End of Support date", and that the Last Service Extension Date is twelve months before End of Support. Fortinet "may continue to make services available beyond the standard periods" and "reserves the right to charge additional fees" for that. Source is the same policy copy as above. (storage.mtender.gov.md)
- Fortinet's PSIRT policy scope covers "All our products that have not reached End-of-Life (EoL) milestone". Critical and High fixes go to "All supported versions". Advisories are public at https://fortiguard.fortinet.com/psirt and are published on the second Tuesday of the month. The RSS feed is at https://fortiguard.fortinet.com/rss/ir.xml. (fortiguard.com)
What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the FortiGate 30E
The 30E has one GbE RJ45 WAN port, four GbE RJ45 Ethernet ports (ports 1 to 4), an RJ45 console port for CLI access and a single USB 3.0 port. Power arrives as 12V DC from an external 100-240V AC, 50-60Hz adapter, which shipped in the box with a console cable, an Ethernet cable and wall-mount hardware. A maintenance schedule should name the exact SKU, since the 3G4G-INTL, 3G4G-NAM, LENC and USG versions have different Fortinet dates, and should state whether the external adapter is covered alongside the appliance.
Third-party hardware cover for a unit like this generally means diagnosis, replacement parts and an engineer where needed, and it can continue after Fortinet's End of Support for the SKU, but it protects the hardware only. Network third-party maintenance explains the general arrangement, and a quote for specific 30E SKUs can be requested through the maintenance coverage builder.

Extend or refresh the FortiGate 30E?
Keeping a 30E in service is easiest to justify on a base FG-30E or FG-30E-3G4G-GBL with a live FortiCare contract running towards 31 March 2027, or on an FG-30E-LENC, whose Last Service Extension Date is 14 January 2027 and End of Support 14 January 2028. Until those End of Support dates, Fortinet's policy keeps the Final Firmware Release in its urgent-fix phase, and third-party hardware cover can sit alongside the contract while a replacement is planned.
The argument for refresh rests on software. The 30E's software stops at the FortiOS 6.2 branch, whose End of Support was 28 September 2023, and once the base FG-30E's own End of Support passes on 31 March 2027, Fortinet's policy puts the company under no obligation to provide support services; the FG-30E-3G4G-NAM, FG-30E-3G4G-INTL and FG-30E-USG are already past that milestone. For a firewall, planning the change before March 2027 is the sensible course. The next model in the same line is the FortiGate 40F, the F-generation entry model; the FortiGate 30G is the 30-series model listed in the FortiOS 8.0.0 release notes.
- The FortiOS 6.2.17 (build 1405) release notes list FG-30E, FG-30E_3G4G_INTL, FG-30E_3G4G_NAM and FG-30E-MG as supported models. (docs.fortinet.com)
- FG-30E is not in the supported-model list of FortiOS 6.4.0 (build 1579), the first 6.4 release, so the 30E tops out on the FortiOS 6.2 branch. That branch reached software End of Support on 2023-09-28. (docs.fortinet.com)
- The change log in the FortiOS 6.2.17 release notes shows an initial release on 2025-05-27 and updates through 2026-07-20. 6.2.17 is the latest 6.2 build listed in Fortinet's document library. (docs.fortinet.com)
- Firmware downloads need an active support contract, and the FG-30E Last Service Extension Date (2026-03-31) has passed. Under the standard policy, a unit whose FortiCare contract has lapsed cannot regain firmware download access by extending that contract. (docs.fortinet.com)
- The wireless sibling, FortiWiFi-30E, is a separate SKU with earlier dates: End of Order 2021-10-15, LSED 2025-10-15 and End of Support 2026-10-15. (support.fortinet.com)
Keep your FortiGate 30E covered
Tell us how many you run and when your current cover ends, and we will come back with a like-for-like maintenance quote for that estate. Your model and its support status are attached to the enquiry automatically, so there is nothing to re-type.
Related models
The 30E's wireless sibling is a separate SKU: the FortiWiFi-30E has earlier dates in Fortinet's feed, with End of Order on 15 October 2021, a Last Service Extension Date of 15 October 2025 and End of Support on 15 October 2026, so an office running both should not assume they leave support together. The FG-30E-MG also appears in the FortiOS 6.2.17 supported-model list alongside the base FG-30E and the 3G4G INTL and NAM versions. The FortiGate 60E end of life and FortiGate 100E end of life pages apply the same Fortinet lifecycle policy to their own SKU tables.

Questions people ask about the FortiGate 30E
Is the FortiGate 30E end of life?
The base FG-30E is still within Fortinet support: Fortinet's public hardware lifecycle feed gives it an End of Support date of 31 March 2027, after End of Order on 31 March 2022 and a Last Service Extension Date of 31 March 2026. The FG-30E-3G4G-NAM, FG-30E-3G4G-INTL and FG-30E-USG SKUs are already past their End of Support dates.
When does Fortinet stop supporting the FortiGate 30E?
For the base FG-30E and the FG-30E-3G4G-GBL, Fortinet's End of Support date is 31 March 2027, and the FG-30E-LENC runs to 14 January 2028. After End of Support, Fortinet's lifecycle policy says the company is under no obligation to provide support services, though it may continue to make services available beyond the standard periods and reserves the right to charge additional fees for doing so.
Can I still download firmware for the FortiGate 30E?
Only for a registered unit with an active support contract, which is the condition set in Fortinet's FortiCare guide. The base FG-30E's Last Service Extension Date passed on 31 March 2026, so under the standard policy a lapsed contract on that SKU cannot be extended to restore access. The 30E's highest branch is FortiOS 6.2, and 6.2.17 is the latest 6.2 build in Fortinet's document library.
What came after the FortiGate 30E?
The FortiGate 40F, the F-generation entry model, is the next model in the same line. The FortiGate 30G is the 30-series model that appears in the FortiOS 8.0.0 release notes.
Can a FortiGate 30E go on third-party maintenance?
Third-party maintenance contracts generally cover hardware of this kind with diagnosis, replacement parts and engineers, and that cover can run past Fortinet's End of Support. They cannot provide FortiOS firmware or FortiGuard security subscriptions, which only Fortinet supplies. A quote can be requested for the specific 30E SKU.
