From a business requirement to a sized solution
Storage decisions usually start with two numbers — how much you need to store, and how fast it has to be — then narrow by what you run on it and how you protect it. The Storage Solution Finder takes those four inputs and maps them to the right tier of storage, the right media (all-NVMe, all-flash or hybrid), a sensible RAID and host connectivity, and an indicative drive count, so you walk into a procurement conversation already knowing roughly what you need.
- Capacity — set usable data you need today (the tool plans headroom into the drive estimate).
- Performance — set the IOPS your busiest workloads demand; the tier label (Low → Extremely High) guides you.
- Workloads & protection — pick what you run and how you protect it (replication, snapshots, encryption, immutability).
- Get your quote — submit the sizing with your email and notes; our team replies with a tailored solution.
Entry / mid block SAN
HPE MSA (Gen7/Gen6) or Dell PowerVault ME5 — dual-controller block storage for most virtualisation, file and database workloads. →
All-flash / premium
HPE Nimble / Alletra or all-flash MSA / ME5 — low-latency flash with rich data services for performance-led estates. →
All-NVMe high-end
HPE Alletra all-NVMe — the highest IOPS tier for tier-0 databases, large VDI and AI/analytics. →
Bulk + air-gapped archive
HPE StoreEver LTO tape for the lowest cost-per-TB and an immutable, offline copy against ransomware. →
Storage sizing — common questions
What does the Storage Solution Finder do?
It turns your business requirements — how much capacity, how much performance (IOPS), which workloads, and how you need to protect the data — into a recommended storage solution and a request for a tailored quote. As you drag the sliders, the recommended platform, media (flash/hybrid), RAID, connectivity and an indicative drive count update live, and a positioning map shows where your requirement sits across the storage tiers.
What is IOPS and how much do I need?
IOPS (input/output operations per second) measures how many reads/writes the storage can handle — it matters more than raw throughput for databases, virtualisation and VDI. As a rough guide: general file and backup workloads sit in the tens of thousands; busy virtualisation and mixed business apps in the low hundreds of thousands; latency-sensitive databases, large VDI and analytics push higher. If you are unsure, set it by workload and our team will validate it.
Which products can it recommend?
The finder maps your needs to the platforms Servnet supplies: HPE MSA (Gen7/Gen6) and Dell PowerVault ME5 entry/mid block SANs for most workloads; HPE Nimble / Alletra and all-flash for performance-led or data-services-heavy needs; all-NVMe Alletra for the highest tiers; and HPE StoreEver LTO tape for low-cost, air-gapped archive. You can jump straight into the matching configurator to build and price it.
How accurate is the recommendation and drive count?
It is an indicative, business-planning-grade starting point — accurate at the architecture and tier level. The drive estimate is approximate (capacity ÷ a sensible drive size, plus protection overhead) and throughput is stated by interface capability, not a per-model figure. Servnet confirms the exact array, drive models, usable capacity and pricing on your quote.
Is this a price?
No — there is no live price. The tool builds a sizing and a request for quote. Submit it with your email and any notes, and our UK storage team responds within one business day with a tailored solution and pricing.
Can Servnet help me plan and procure the storage?
Yes. As a 24-year HPE and Dell partner we size, supply, install and support storage across the UK — new or refurbished, block SAN or tape — and give genuinely vendor-neutral advice because we sell both. Use the finder to frame the requirement, then we take it from there.
