Best secure business laptops for regulated fleets

For regulated or centrally-managed fleets, prioritise Intel vPro and secured-core PC hardware: vPro enables remote management and patching even when the OS is down, while secured-core adds a hardware root of trust (firmware protection, virtualisation-based security) that meets strict compliance baselines.

What to look for

Intel vPro (Enterprise) for remote out-of-band management
Secured-core PC / hardware root of trust
Hardware credential storage (ControlVault, HP Wolf, ThinkShield)
TPM 2.0, self-encrypting drive options
Windows Autopilot / MDM enrolment for zero-touch deployment

vPro + secured-core is the combination auditors and cyber-insurers increasingly expect on a corporate fleet. Business ranges — ThinkPad, EliteBook, Dell Pro — build these in across most tiers; consumer machines and some Apple configurations do not offer vPro. The finder filters to the machines that meet the managed-fleet bar.

Security / regulated laptops — FAQs

What is a secured-core PC?

A secured-core PC combines hardware, firmware and OS protections — a hardware root of trust, firmware attack protection and virtualisation-based security — enabled by default. It’s the baseline for the most security-sensitive and regulated deployments.

Do I need vPro on business laptops?

If you manage a fleet, vPro is very valuable: it enables remote management, patching and recovery even when the OS won’t boot, over a wired or wireless connection. It’s standard on most business-tier ThinkPad, EliteBook and Dell Pro models.

Are MacBooks secure enough for regulated fleets?

Apple silicon has strong hardware security (Secure Enclave), but MacBooks don’t offer Intel vPro out-of-band management. Whether that’s acceptable depends on your compliance and management requirements — many regulated Windows fleets specifically require vPro/secured-core.
