Purpose-built as a leaf node in Cisco's spine-leaf data centre architecture — connecting 25G servers/hypervisors and uplinks to 100G Nexus 9500/9300 spine switches.
Full Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) support — automated network fabric provisioning, intent-based policy, and application-aware segmentation via APIC.
Native VXLAN BGP EVPN support in NX-OS standalone mode — enabling multi-tenant overlay fabric with distributed anycast gateway and L2/L3 stretch.
Hardware MACsec IEEE 802.1AE on all 48 × 25G and 6 × 100G ports — securing all server-to-switch and switch-to-spine links.
Streaming telemetry, ERSPAN, SNMP, and sFlow provide deep visibility into data centre traffic — essential for capacity planning, troubleshooting, and security analytics.
Each 25G SFP28 port supports 10G SFP+ transceivers for backward compatibility with 10G servers — protecting investment during 25G migration.
2.7 billion packets per second non-blocking forwarding rate handles the highest-density hyperconverged and cloud workloads without performance degradation.
The Cisco Nexus N9K-C93180YC-FX is one of the most widely deployed data centre leaf switches globally — a 1U fixed-configuration switch delivering 48 × 25G SFP28 server-facing ports and 6 × 100G QSFP28 spine uplinks. With 3.6 Tbps of non-blocking switching capacity and 2.7 Bpps forwarding rate, it handles the most demanding hyperconverged, virtualised, and bare-metal server environments without performance constraints.
The N9K-C93180YC-FX supports both Cisco ACI fabric mode (with APIC policy-driven automation) and NX-OS standalone mode (with VXLAN BGP EVPN for open-standards-based overlay fabrics). This dual-mode support gives architects the flexibility to choose Cisco's proprietary ACI automation or a standards-based BGP EVPN design — on the same hardware.
In ACI mode, the switch connects to a Cisco Application Policy Infrastructure Controller (APIC) cluster which automates all leaf node provisioning, endpoint policy, and inter-VLAN routing — eliminating manual switch configuration. Security policies are applied per-endpoint-group (EPG) automatically, and the fabric provides microsegmentation between application tiers without complex VLAN mapping.
In NX-OS standalone mode with VXLAN BGP EVPN, the N9K-C93180YC-FX operates as a leaf node in a standard spine-leaf fabric — advertising connected subnets and endpoints to spine switches via BGP EVPN, and forwarding east-west traffic within the same leaf with local switching. This architecture is favoured for multi-vendor environments or organisations preferring open-standards-based automation with Ansible and Terraform.
Industry-standard 48 × 25G + 6 × 100G leaf switch for spine-leaf data centre fabrics — ACI or VXLAN BGP EVPN.
Cisco ACI fabric leaf node — APIC automates provisioning, policy, and security for all connected endpoints.
NX-OS VXLAN BGP EVPN leaf for multi-tenant overlay fabrics with distributed anycast gateway.
Direct upgrade from Nexus 5500/5600/6000 series — higher density, 25G, ACI support, and modern NX-OS.
