The HPE ProLiant Compute DL360 Gen12 is the most significant generational update to HPE's 1U 2-socket platform in years. Built around Intel Xeon 6 processors — available in both Efficient Core (E-Core) and Performance Core (P-Core) variants — the DL360 Gen12 delivers up to 144 cores per socket, enabling workload consolidation that would previously have required multiple servers.
Memory bandwidth and capacity reach new heights: 32 DIMM slots support HPE DDR5 Smart Memory up to 8 TB at 6400 MT/s (1 DIMM per channel), compared to 5600 MT/s maximum on the previous Gen11 platform. For applications with high concurrency — large in-memory databases, AI inference, and analytics — this bandwidth improvement delivers measurable throughput gains.
The new multi-purpose intelligent front cage is one of the standout mechanical innovations. Rather than fixed-function bays, the DL360 Gen12 front cage accommodates SFF drives, EDSFF E3.S NVMe drives, an OS boot device (NS204i-u v2), or front OCP NIC cards — all in the same physical positions. This allows configuration flexibility without chassis changes, and the Smart Chassis feature automates the associated thermal and cabling management.
Security advances are substantial: HPE iLO 7 introduces a Security Enclave — a hardware-based vault within the iLO ASIC that stores server encryption keys in tamper-resistant hardware. The DL360 Gen12 supports NIST and CNSA 2.0 quantum-resistance requirements through secure firmware signing, positioning it for long-term use in security-sensitive environments.
