The HPE ProLiant Compute DL380 Gen12 raises the bar for 2U enterprise rack servers. Built on Intel Xeon 6 — the first major Intel server processor architecture to unify Efficient Core and Performance Core variants in a single generation — the DL380 Gen12 delivers up to 144 cores per socket while supporting the same DDR5 6400 MT/s memory interface across all processor variants.
Expansion capability is dramatically improved over the Gen11: three riser card positions (primary, secondary, tertiary) provide up to 8 PCIe Gen5 slots in full-height x16 connectors, with additional OCP 3.0 slots at the rear. Post-launch support adds front OCP NIC slots via the multipurpose cage. This level of I/O density makes the DL380 Gen12 suitable for GPU-accelerated AI workloads without requiring a dedicated GPU chassis.
Storage flexibility is the widest in any 2U platform from HPE. The 8SFF CTO server can be upgraded incrementally to 24SFF using additional drive cages. Alternatively, 8LFF, 12LFF, or 12EDSFF (expandable to 36 EDSFF) configurations are available. NS204i-u boot devices can be installed at the front, rear, or internal positions depending on chassis configuration.
HPE iLO 7 delivers significant security improvements over iLO 6: the new Security Enclave is a hardware-based vault within the iLO ASIC protecting server encryption keys from physical tampering. The DL380 Gen12 is designed to satisfy FIPS 140-3 Level 3 requirements and supports quantum-resistance through CNSA 2.0 secure firmware signing — critical for long-term compliance in regulated industries.
