| Public End of Sale Announcement Date | 30 April 2021 | Vendor-published | End of Sale (EOS) Announcement - Aruba 2540 Switches |
| End of Sales (EOS) Date | 31 January 2022 | Vendor-published'Or while supplies last'. Exception: End of Sale for JL356A (2540 24G PoE+ 4SFP+) was 2021-10-31. | End of Sale (EOS) Announcement - Aruba 2540 Switches |
| Last day to purchase new support / renew service contract | 31 January 2026 | Derived from vendor policyDERIVED from the HPE Aruba EOL policy: 4 years after End of Sale, in 1-year terms only. That gives 2026-01-31 for JL354A/JL355A/JL357A and 2025-10-31 for JL356A. Both dates have passed. | HPE Aruba Networking End of Life Policy (a00143052ENW Rev. 2) |
| End of Support Date | 31 October 2026 | Vendor-publishedFrom the portal's 'Aruba Switches / 2540 Switch' notice (announcement 30 Apr 2021, End of Sale 31 Jan 2022, End of Support 31 Oct 2026, Last Supported Release TBD), which links to the EOS PDF above. Policy puts End of Support 5 years after End of Sale, which matches JL356A's 2021-10-31 End of Sale. The portal gives this single date for the whole notice, so do not assume a later date for the other SKUs. | Product End of Life Notifications | HPE Networking Support Portal |
| Warranty change: Lifetime Warranty becomes Limited Lifetime Warranty (original owner, up through End of Sale + 5 years) | 15 January 2027 | Vendor-publishedThe 2540 SKUs JL354A-JL357A (and JL356ACM) are in HPE's product table. End of Sale + 5 years is 2027-01-31 for JL354A/JL355A/JL357A and 2026-10-31 for JL356A (derived). | Product Warranty Update for HPE Aruba Networking Products (a00161510enw) |
Where the HPE Aruba 2540 stands today
HPE's own dates for the 2540 come from two places. The End of Sale announcement PDF gives the 30 April 2021 announcement and a 31 January 2022 End of Sale 'or while supplies last', with the JL356A ending earlier on 31 October 2021. The HPE Networking Support Portal's 'Aruba Switches / 2540 Switch' notice then sets End of Support at 31 October 2026 and lists the Last Supported Release as TBD. That single date covers the whole notice: it matches the policy's five years after the JL356A's October 2021 End of Sale, but the JL354A, JL355A and JL357A should not be assumed to run later.
The contract window closed earlier. HPE Aruba's EOL policy allows new support to be bought, and contracts renewed, only until four years after End of Sale and in one-year terms; derived from that policy, the deadline was 31 January 2026 for the JL354A, JL355A and JL357A and 31 October 2025 for the JL356A. Both have passed, and new OEM contracts for the 2540 are no longer available. Dates are model-wide, but the JL356A had an earlier End of Sale than the other three SKUs, so check the SKU on the rear label, then find the '2540 Switch' notice by filtering the portal's Product End of Life list by product series. Per-unit warranty, asset records and online RMA need sign-in to the same portal.
Dates apply model-wide. Open the HPE Networking Support Portal Product End of Life list (https://networkingsupport.hpe.com/notification/product-eol), filter by product series and find the '2540 Switch' notice (End of Support Oct 31, 2026). JL356A had an earlier End of Sale (2021-10-31) than the other three SKUs, so check the SKU on the rear label. What still works after HPE Aruba Networking support ends
Until 31 October 2026, HPE's policy for discontinued hardware is to support the most recent maintenance release that still includes it, and it may issue patches for security bugs or serious issues, with no new features. Support for a discontinued product goes only to customers who bought a maintenance contract, or converted new-product warranty to one, before the standard warranty expired, and the policy directs TAC support to customers under a current support contract. After End of Support all support services end, and access to software downloads, documentation and licence management may be discontinued, except for lifetime-warranty products held by the original owner. Customer Advocacy support then runs on a commercially-reasonable-effort basis only, and HPE does not guarantee continued connection to HPE Aruba Networking Central.
The warranty itself is also changing. From 15 January 2027 the 2540 SKUs JL354A to JL357A (and JL356ACM) move to a Limited Lifetime Warranty that lasts only while the original end user owns the product, up through five years after End of Sale. Applied to the 2540's End of Sale dates, that wording gives 31 January 2027 for the JL354A, JL355A and JL357A, while the JL356A's limit of 31 October 2026 is reached before the change takes effect; both dates are derived from HPE's warranty wording, not published by HPE. On that reading, original-owner warranty cover for the 2540 effectively ends by early 2027, and HPE does not say how the change interacts with the policy's lifetime-warranty exception for software downloads.
- HPE Aruba EOL policy: after End of Support (EOST) all support services end, and access to software downloads, documentation and licence management may be discontinued. The exception is lifetime-warranty products for the original owner. (hpe.com)
- Support for discontinued products goes only to customers who bought a maintenance contract, or converted new-product warranty to one, before the standard warranty expired. The policy also says TAC support for discontinued products goes to customers under a current support contract. (hpe.com)
- HPE Aruba EOL policy on discontinued hardware: until the hardware reaches EOST, HPE supports the most recent maintenance release that still includes it, and may issue patches for security bugs or serious issues (no new features). After EOST, Customer Advocacy support is on a commercially-reasonable-effort basis only, and HPE does not guarantee that the hardware can keep connecting to HPE Aruba Networking Central. (hpe.com)
- From 2027-01-15 the 2540's lifetime warranty becomes a Limited Lifetime Warranty that lasts only while the original end user owns the product, up through five years after End of Sale. HPE does not say how this change interacts with the EOL policy's lifetime-warranty exception for software downloads after EOST. (hpe.com)
What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the HPE Aruba 2540
Each 2540 is 442.5 mm wide and 43.95 mm high, shipped with rack-mount brackets and powered from an auto-ranging AC input (100-127 V or 200-240 V, 50/60 Hz) with no power switch. The four SKUs pair 24 or 48 RJ-45 gigabit ports with four SFP+ uplinks: JL354A 24G 4SFP+, JL355A 48G 4SFP+, JL356A 24G PoE+ 4SFP+ and JL357A 48G PoE+ 4SFP+. A maintenance contract should list each unit by JL number, because only the JL356A and JL357A deliver IEEE 802.3at PoE+, at up to 30 W per port, and a non-PoE spare would leave powered devices dark.
The uplinks take 100-FX, 1G SFP or 10G SFP+ transceivers, so cover should state whether optics are included and which speeds are in use. The switches run ArubaOS-Switch, for which HPE publishes the 2540 Management and Configuration Guide for version 16.05. A like-for-like 2540 spare keeps a failed unit on the same operating system, which matters because the CX 6100 replacements run AOS-CX; a contract that swaps in a different model during a fault turns a repair into a migration.

Extend or refresh the HPE Aruba 2540?
Extending the 2540 on third-party maintenance is reasonable for switches doing stable access work where the main risk is hardware failure. Once HPE support ends on 31 October 2026, network third-party maintenance can provide diagnosis, replacement parts and engineers independently of HPE contracts, and what third-party maintenance covers describes how that cover works.
The case for refresh is software and support access, both of which HPE's policy curtails after 31 October 2026. The 2540 EOS notice names a one-for-one replacement for each SKU: JL357A to JL675A (CX 6100 48G CL4 4SFP+), JL356A to JL677A (CX 6100 24G CL4 4SFP+), JL355A to JL676A (CX 6100 48G 4SFP+) and JL354A to JL678A (CX 6100 24G 4SFP+). Because the CX 6100 runs AOS-CX rather than ArubaOS-Switch, the change means moving configurations to a different operating system.
- OEM End of Support is 2026-10-31, 23 days from today. After that, HPE policy ends TAC support and may withdraw software downloads (except lifetime-warranty products for the original owner). Owners who are not the original purchaser are left with third-party maintenance or replacement. (networkingsupport.hpe.com)
- The EOS notice names a one-for-one replacement for each SKU: JL357A to JL675A (CX 6100 48G CL4 4SFP+), JL356A to JL677A (CX 6100 24G CL4 4SFP+), JL355A to JL676A (CX 6100 48G 4SFP+), JL354A to JL678A (CX 6100 24G 4SFP+). The CX 6100 runs AOS-CX, not ArubaOS-Switch, so migrating means moving configurations to a different OS. (asp-documents.arubanetworks.com)
- Under HPE Aruba policy, new support could only be bought, and contracts renewed, until 4 years after End of Sale (by 2026-01-31, or 2025-10-31 for JL356A; both derived). New OEM contracts for the 2540 are no longer available. (hpe.com)
- From 2027-01-15 the 2540's lifetime warranty becomes a Limited Lifetime Warranty that runs only up through five years after End of Sale. On our reading that is 2027-01-31 for JL354A/JL355A/JL357A, and JL356A's limit (2026-10-31) is already reached by the change date (derived). Original-owner warranty cover for the 2540 therefore effectively ends in early 2027. (hpe.com)

Questions people ask about the HPE Aruba 2540
Is the Aruba 2540 end of life?
Yes. Aruba announced End of Sale on 30 April 2021, sales ended on 31 January 2022 (31 October 2021 for the JL356A), and HPE's published End of Support date is 31 October 2026. Until that date OEM support remains technically available to customers with a current contract.
When does HPE stop supporting the Aruba 2540?
On 31 October 2026, according to the 2540 Switch notice on the HPE Networking Support Portal. The portal gives one date for the whole notice, so do not assume a later date for the JL354A, JL355A or JL357A than for the JL356A.
Can I still buy or renew HPE support for a 2540?
No. HPE Aruba's EOL policy allows new support purchases and renewals only until four years after End of Sale; derived from that policy, the deadline was 31 January 2026 for three SKUs and 31 October 2025 for the JL356A. Both have passed.
Can I still download firmware for the Aruba 2540 after October 2026?
HPE's policy says that after End of Support, access to software downloads, documentation and licence management may be discontinued, with an exception for lifetime-warranty products held by the original owner. HPE has not said how the 15 January 2027 move to a Limited Lifetime Warranty affects that exception, and the portal lists the 2540's Last Supported Release as TBD.
What replaced the Aruba 2540?
The EOS notice maps each 2540 SKU to a CX 6100 model: JL354A to JL678A, JL355A to JL676A, JL356A to JL677A and JL357A to JL675A. The CX 6100 runs AOS-CX instead of ArubaOS-Switch, so configurations have to move to a different operating system. Cover for existing 2540s in the meantime can be quoted through the maintenance coverage builder.
