Cisco · Cisco Nexus 9000 Series: first-generation Nexus 9300 fixed switches

Nexus 9300 (first generation: 9372PX / 9372TX / 9396PX) end of life

First-generation Cisco Nexus 9300 switches are past end of support: Cisco's bulletin EOL11922 set the Last Date of Support for the Nexus 9372PX and 9372TX at 28 February 2023, and EOL11923 set the 9396PX's at 30 April 2023. For anyone still running them, software is the larger problem, because NX-OS 10.1(1) and later do not support this hardware and the NX-OS 9.3(x) train it is confined to reached its own Last Date of Support on 31 October 2025.

Nexus 9300 (first generation: 9372PX / 9372TX / 9396PX) support dates

Every row names its basis. A third-party tracker date is not the vendor’s own, and “not published” means exactly that.

Where the Nexus 9300 (first generation: 9372PX / 9372TX / 9396PX) stands today

The first-generation Nexus 9300 models do not share one bulletin, and every one is now past its Last Date of Support. EOL11922 covers the N9K-C9372PX and N9K-C9372TX and their -B18Q, -BUN, -ZV, spare and C1- variants: End-of-Sale on 3 February 2018, final contract renewal on 1 May 2022, and security support and the Last Date of Support both ending on 28 February 2023. EOL11923 gives the N9K-C9396PX and its N9K-M12PQ and N9K-M6PQ-E uplink modules one table: End-of-Sale on 1 May 2018, renewals ending 30 July 2022 and support ending 30 April 2023. The others reached their Last Date of Support under separate bulletins: the 9396TX on 30 April 2023 (EOL11767), the 93128TX on 31 October 2022 (EOL11766), the 9372PX-E and 9372TX-E on 31 October 2023 (EOL12241) and the 9332PQ on 31 March 2024 (EOL12736).

Cisco's retired-product page for the 9396PX (French locale) conflicts with this, showing End-of-Sale 2018-02-03 and End-of-Support 2023-02-28, the 9372PX dates; the amended EOL11923 bulletin is the more specific source and is used here. To match a switch to its bulletin, 'show inventory' reports the chassis PID, such as N9K-C9372PX, N9K-C9372PX-E, N9K-C9396PX or N9K-C93128TX. The -E models carry their own PIDs, so a 9372PX-E follows EOL12241, not EOL11922.

Finding the date for your own unit

Dates are per product ID and differ across first-generation models. Run 'show inventory' to read the chassis PID (for example N9K-C9372PX, N9K-C9372PX-E, N9K-C9396PX or N9K-C93128TX), then use the matching bulletin: EOL11922 for the 9372PX/TX (https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/nexus-9000-series-switches/eos-eol-notice-c51-739451.html), EOL11923 for the 9396PX and its M12PQ/M6PQ-E uplinks (eos-eol-notice-c51-739452.html), EOL12241 for the -E variants (eos-eol-notice-c51-740713.html), EOL11767 for the 9396TX (eos-eol-notice-c51-738969.html), EOL11766 for the 93128TX (eos-eol-notice-c51-738968.html) and EOL12736 for the 9332PQ (eos-eol-notice-c51-741302.html). All of these are in the same Cisco folder.

What still works after Cisco support ends

The hard limit is the NX-OS release line. Cisco's NX-OS 10.1(1) release notes say: 'Beginning with Cisco NX-OS Release 10.1(1), the following hardware are not supported.' The list includes the N9K-C9372PX, -C9372TX, -C9396PX, -C9396TX, -C93128TX, -C9332PQ, -C9372PX-E and -C9372TX-E, and the N9K-M6PQ, N9K-M12PQ and N9K-M6PQ-E uplink modules, so these switches cannot move past 9.3(x). That train is itself out of support under EOL14694: maintenance releases ended on 10 January 2024, End of Vulnerability/Security Support came on 10 April 2025 and the Last Date of Support on 31 October 2025, and the bulletin names no replacement release.

With hardware and software both past Cisco's Last Day of Support, PSIRT's policy for such products applies: reports are accepted, but there is no analysis, fix, disclosure or CVE. Contract renewals closed even earlier, on 1 May 2022 for the 9372PX and 9372TX and 30 July 2022 for the 9396PX, so maintenance now comes from outside Cisco and covers the hardware, not software fixes Cisco no longer produces.

  • Cisco's NX-OS 10.1(1) release notes say: 'Beginning with Cisco NX-OS Release 10.1(1), the following hardware are not supported.' The list includes the N9K-C9372PX, -C9372TX, -C9396PX, -C9396TX, -C93128TX, -C9332PQ, -C9372PX-E and -C9372TX-E, and the N9K-M6PQ, N9K-M12PQ and N9K-M6PQ-E uplink modules. These switches therefore cannot move past the 9.3(x) train. (cisco.com)
  • NX-OS 9.3(x) itself passed End of Vulnerability/Security Support on 10 Apr 2025 and its Last Date of Support on 31 Oct 2025. The bulletin names no replacement release. (cisco.com)
  • For products past their Last Day of Support, Cisco PSIRT accepts vulnerability reports but will not analyse, fix or disclose them, and issues no CVEs for them. (sec.cloudapps.cisco.com)

What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the Nexus 9300 (first generation: 9372PX / 9372TX / 9396PX)

The Nexus 9372PX is 1RU with 48 fixed 1/10G SFP+ ports and six fixed 40G QSFP+ ports at 1.44 Tbps; the 9372TX is also 1RU and 1.44 Tbps but has 48 fixed 100M/1/10GBASE-T ports. The 2RU 9396PX has 48 fixed 1/10G SFP+ ports and takes its 40G uplinks from a separate N9K-M6PQ or N9K-M12PQ module, giving six or twelve active QSFP+ ports and up to 1.92 Tbps, so spares cover on a 9396PX must include the module as well as the chassis. The N9K-M12PQ and N9K-M6PQ-E share the 9396PX bulletin and its 30 April 2023 date; the original N9K-M6PQ, without -E, is not listed on it.

Each switch takes up to two hot-swappable 80 Plus Platinum supplies in a 1+1 pair, 650 W AC, 930 W DC or 1200 W HVAC/HVDC, though a data-sheet footnote under the 9372 table says redundancy is not supported at 110 V. Fan trays are hot-swappable and N+1 redundant, in port-side intake or port-side exhaust versions, so replacement trays must match the installed airflow. The switches run standalone NX-OS or Cisco ACI fabric mode, and the data sheet calls the 9372PX-E and 9372TX-E minor hardware revisions, so record the exact PID when listing assets. Network third-party maintenance generally covers diagnosis, parts and engineer attendance for hardware like this.

Extend or refresh the Nexus 9300 (first generation: 9372PX / 9372TX / 9396PX)?

Keeping first-generation 9300s on hardware maintenance is defensible mainly as a bridge: it keeps chassis, supplies, fan trays and uplink modules repairable while a migration is planned, but the software position stays fixed. NX-OS 10.1(1) and later do not support these switches, and the 9.3(x) train they depend on passed its End of Vulnerability/Security Support on 10 April 2025 and its Last Date of Support on 31 October 2025. Where a switch sits in a segment that can tolerate unpatched NX-OS, a short extension on hardware break-fix support is reasonable; where it carries traffic between untrusted zones, the case for replacement is strong.

Cisco's own migration advice has aged too. EOL11922, EOL11923 and EOL12241 recommend the Nexus 9300-EX and 9300-FX Series, and EOL11767 names the 93108TC-EX or 93108TC-FX for the 9396TX. Cisco's Nexus 9000 series support page now shows the 93108TC-EX and 93180YC-EX as End of Sale with End-of-Support on 31 August 2027, and the 93108TC-FX and 93180YC-FX as End of Sale with End-of-Support on 31 July 2029. The 93120TX, named in EOL11766 for the 93128TX, shows End of Support on 28 February 2025, while the 9336C-FX2 named in EOL12736 for the 9332PQ, and the 93180YC-FX3, show as Available. Check any target's status before committing to it.

  • Software is the main risk. Cisco's NX-OS 10.1(1) release notes list every first-generation 9300 chassis and its uplink modules as unsupported from 10.1(1). The switches are therefore limited to NX-OS 9.3(x), and that train passed its Last Date of Support on 31 Oct 2025 (EoL14694). (cisco.com)
  • Cisco's suggested migration targets have themselves aged. Bulletins EOL11922, EOL11923 and EOL12241 recommend the Nexus 9300-EX and 9300-FX Series, and EOL11767 names the 93108TC-EX or 93108TC-FX. Cisco's Nexus 9000 series support page now shows the 93108TC-EX and 93180YC-EX as End of Sale with End-of-Support 31-Aug-2027, and the 93108TC-FX and 93180YC-FX as End of Sale with End-of-Support 31-Jul-2029. The 93120TX named in EOL11766 for the 93128TX shows End of Support on 28-Feb-2025. The 9336C-FX2 named in EOL12736 for the 9332PQ, and the 93180YC-FX3, show as Available. (cisco.com)
  • Cisco's retired-product page for the 9396PX (French locale) shows End-of-Sale 2018-02-03 and End-of-Support 2023-02-28. Those dates conflict with amended bulletin EOL11923 (1 May 2018 and 30 Apr 2023). The bulletin is the more specific source. (cisco.com)
  • The 9396PX needs a separate 40G uplink module. The N9K-M12PQ and N9K-M6PQ-E modules share the 9396PX bulletin and its 30 Apr 2023 Last Date of Support, so spares cover must include the module as well as the chassis. The original N9K-M6PQ (without -E) is not listed on that bulletin. (cisco.com)

Within the first generation, the 9372PX and 9372TX are the 1RU SFP+ and 10GBASE-T versions, their -E counterparts are minor revisions on a separate bulletin, and the 9396PX is the 2RU version with a modular uplink; the 9396TX, 93128TX and 9332PQ are the other first-generation models whose bulletins are listed above. None of those bulletins covers a router or a Catalyst switch, so an estate that pairs these Nexus switches with branch routers or campus switches has separate dates to confirm on pages such as ISR 4000 Series end of life and Catalyst 9300 end of life.

Each bar runs from release to the milestone that marks end of support for the model as a whole. Amber bars end on a third-party tracker's date, not the vendor's. A dashed open end means no end date is published — not that support is indefinite. Component and accessory dates (a management controller, a power module) are not treated as the model's.

Questions people ask about the Nexus 9300 (first generation: 9372PX / 9372TX / 9396PX)

Is the Nexus 9372PX end of life?

Yes. Cisco's bulletin EOL11922 gave the N9K-C9372PX and N9K-C9372TX a Last Date of Support of 28 February 2023, the same day as their End of Vulnerability/Security Support. The 9372PX-E and 9372TX-E revisions are on EOL12241, whose Last Date of Support was 31 October 2023.

When did Cisco end support for the Nexus 9396PX?

The amended EOL11923 bulletin gives the 9396PX, and its N9K-M12PQ and N9K-M6PQ-E uplink modules, a Last Date of Support of 30 April 2023. A Cisco retired-product page (French locale) shows 28 February 2023 instead; the bulletin is the more specific source.

Does NX-OS 10 support first-generation Nexus 9300 switches?

No. Cisco's NX-OS 10.1(1) release notes list the 9372PX, 9372TX, 9396PX and the other first-generation models, plus their uplink modules, as not supported from 10.1(1). They are limited to NX-OS 9.3(x), which reached its Last Date of Support on 31 October 2025.

What came after the first-generation Nexus 9300?

Cisco's bulletins recommend the Nexus 9300-EX and 9300-FX Series, and some name specific models, such as the 93108TC-EX or 93108TC-FX for the 9396TX and the 9336C-FX2 for the 9332PQ. Cisco's Nexus 9000 series support page now shows several of those as End of Sale themselves, with the 93108TC-EX and 93180YC-EX reaching End-of-Support on 31 August 2027, so check current status before choosing.

Can I get third-party maintenance for Nexus 9372PX or 9396PX switches?

Cisco contract renewals for these models closed in 2022, so cover has to come from outside Cisco. Cisco third-party maintenance typically handles diagnosis, replacement hardware and engineer visits for switches past vendor support, and a quote can be requested. It covers the hardware, not new NX-OS fixes.
