Where the Catalyst 9300 stands today
The 9300 Series dates from 20 June 2017 and spans four sub-families, C9300, C9300L, C9300X and C9300LM, with about 101 models on Cisco's support page and none flagged end-of-sale. Its notice listing holds IOS XE trains from 16.5.1 to 17.17.x, the Cisco ONE C9300 DNA Advantage term licences (EOL14978, end-of-sale 5 September 2023), Catalyst NW EDU licences and the SSD-120G, but no switch-hardware notice. Cisco now positions the C9350 Smart Switch as an upgrade path for select 9300 models, which is not an end-of-sale announcement. If one comes, Cisco's end-of-life policy would give contract holders five years of hardware TAC support and parts, counted from the End-of-Sale date.
The SSD-120G date should not be read as a switch date. That pluggable USB 3.0 SSD for application hosting went end-of-sale under EOL14627: announced 19 January 2022, end-of-sale 20 July 2022, end of new service attachment 20 July 2023, Cisco contract renewal closing on 15 October 2026 and Last Date of Support 31 July 2027, with the SSD-240G named as its replacement. For the switches, dates will be set per PID once announced (C9300-48P-A and C9300-48P-E are separate PIDs), so compare your exact PID with Cisco's notice listing and series model list. Contract and warranty coverage follow the serial number.
There is no model-wide end date yet, because Cisco has published no hardware EoL bulletin for the C9300 switch SKUs. Once announced, lifecycle dates are set per PID (e.g. C9300-48P-A vs C9300-48P-E), so check your exact PID against Cisco's notice listing (https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/switches/catalyst-9300-series-switches/eos-eol-notice-listing.html) and the model list on the series page (https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/switches/catalyst-9300-series-switches/series.html). Warranty and contract coverage run per unit serial number.
What still works after Cisco support ends
Current hardware does not guarantee current software. IOS XE 17.9.x (EOL15188) has passed its End of Vulnerability/Security Support date of 30 September 2026, with the train's Last Date of Support following on 31 March 2027, and Cisco encourages a move to 17.12.1 or above. For all four sub-families, C9300, C9300L, C9300X and C9300LM, Cisco's recommended-release page (updated 4 September 2026) names 17.15.6 and 17.18.4. Cisco's security vulnerability policy also leaves room for free fixes: an eligible customer with no contract can ask TAC for one by citing the advisory URL, though such updates typically cover Critical- and High-severity advisories and are decided case by case.
The 9300 ordering guide, updated 1 September 2026, makes Solution Support 'the defaulted service' and calls it 'strongly recommended'; it covers the Catalyst and Cisco DNA software licences. Smart Net Total Care and Partner Support Service are optional product-level hardware support, and for Smart Net Total Care the guide recommends matching its term to the software subscription term; Success Tracks via CX Cloud offer 30-minute response objectives for Severity 1 and 2 cases with eight RMA options. On the warranty side, each switch ships with E-LLW (next-business-day delivery of replacement hardware where available, plus 90 days of 8x5 TAC), which Cisco's warranty FAQ restricts to the original end user, bars from transfer and limits to five years on discontinuance.
- Software release trains have their own EoL dates, separate from the hardware. IOS XE 17.9.x (EOL15188, listed on the 9300 notice page) reached End of Vulnerability/Security Support on 30 Sep 2026 and has a Last Date of Support of 31 Mar 2027. Cisco encourages migration to 17.12.1 or above. (cisco.com)
- Cisco's recommended releases for C9300, C9300L, C9300X and C9300LM (all models) are 17.18.4 and 17.15.6 (page updated 4 Sep 2026). (cisco.com)
- Cisco may provide free software updates, typically for Critical- and High-severity advisories and decided case by case. Eligible customers without a contract get them via Cisco TAC with the advisory URL. Past a product's LDoS, PSIRT will not analyse or fix vulnerabilities. (sec.cloudapps.cisco.com)
Vendor support you can still buy
- Cisco Solution Support — Cisco's 9300 ordering guide (updated 1 Sep 2026) makes it the default ('Solution Support is the defaulted service') and 'strongly recommended'. It covers Catalyst and Cisco DNA software licences. (cisco.com)
- Cisco Smart Net Total Care — Listed as an optional product-level hardware support option. The guide recommends matching its term to the software subscription term. (cisco.com)
- Cisco Partner Support Service — Listed as 'partner service support', an optional product-level hardware support option (cisco.com)
- Cisco Success Tracks (via CX Cloud) — Offers 30-minute response objectives for Sev 1/2 cases and eight RMA options (cisco.com)
What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the Catalyst 9300
A 9300 contract needs a parts list, because much of the switch is modular. C9300 uplinks are network modules (C9300-NM-4G, NM-4M, NM-8X, NM-2Q and NM-2Y), and the data sheet adds that 'Catalyst 3850 and Catalyst 9300 network modules are supported on the Catalyst 9300 models'; the C9300L has fixed 4x1G, 4x10G/1G or 2x40G uplinks and the C9300LM fixed 4x25G. Dual redundant supplies are supported with one shipped: PWR-C1-350WAC-P, 715WAC-P or 1100WAC-P, with PWR-C1-1900WAC-P and PWR-C1-1900WHV-T as upgrades on X and H models, while the C9300LM uses PWR-C6-600WAC or PWR-C6-1KWAC.
Three stacking technologies need keeping apart: StackWise-480 on the C9300, StackWise-1T on the C9300X and StackWise-320 on the C9300L and C9300LM, each up to eight members. StackPower is offered only on the modular-uplink C9300 and C9300X, across up to four switches or eight with the XPS-2200. PoE budgets depend on supplies: a C9300-48P gives 437 W with its default 715 W unit and a C9300-48U 822 W with 1100 W, with a second supply raising them to as much as 1,440 W and 1,800 W, while the C9300X-48HX has 48 10G multigigabit ports with 90 W UPOE+. Recording supplies, network modules and stack type for each unit gives a network third-party maintenance quote for a 9300 estate something concrete to price.

Extend or refresh the Catalyst 9300?
Keeping existing 9300s under hardware cover raises no lifecycle conflict: with no end-of-sale bulletin for the C9300 switch SKUs, neither Cisco nor third-party coverage faces an announced Cisco cut-off. The gap is second-hand switches, which fall outside E-LLW because Cisco ties it to the original end user; an alternative to Cisco SmartNet such as third-party maintenance, whose usual scope is diagnosing faults, supplying replacement parts and sending engineers, can be quoted for them.
Refresh on the 9300 is about capability, not support running out. The next model in the same line is the C9350 Smart Switch, which Cisco's C9000 Smart Switch FAQ (updated 21 September 2026) says provides an upgrade path for 'select Catalyst 9300 Series switches such as Catalyst 9300 1G U/P/T and 48HX/TX models'. C9350 and 9300 switches do not stack together, so a partial swap cannot join an existing 9300 stack. Two dated items need attention regardless: units on 17.9.x should move to 17.15.x or 17.18.x, and Cisco contracts on any SSD-120G can be renewed only until 15 October 2026.
- No end-of-sale has been announced for the C9300 switch SKUs. The platform is still orderable and is in Cisco's September 2026 recommended-release matrix, so Cisco or third-party coverage on existing 9300s does not face an announced Cisco cut-off. (cisco.com)
- Cisco's C9000 Smart Switch FAQ (updated 21 Sep 2026) says the C9350 provides an upgrade path for 'select Catalyst 9300 Series switches such as Catalyst 9300 1G U/P/T and 48HX/TX models'. It also says C9350 and 9300 switches do not stack together, so a partial swap cannot join an existing 9300 stack. (cisco.com)
- When Cisco announces end-of-sale, its EoL policy gives five years of hardware TAC support and replacement parts from the End-of-Sale date. (cisco.com)
- The original SSD-120G application-hosting SSD is end-of-sale (LDoS 31 Jul 2027), replaced by the SSD-240G. Its Cisco service-contract renewal window closes on 15 Oct 2026. (cisco.com)
- Units still on IOS XE 17.9.x passed that train's End of Vulnerability/Security Support on 30 Sep 2026. Plan an upgrade to 17.15.x or 17.18.x, whatever the hardware status. (cisco.com)
- The switches ship with E-LLW: NBD delivery of replacement hardware where available, plus 90 days of 8x5 TAC support. (cisco.com)
- Cisco's warranty FAQ ties E-LLW to the original end user (non-transferable) and limits it to 5 years on discontinuance, ending at the Last Date of Service set by the EoL process. (cisco.com)

Related models
The 9300 is where Cisco's bulletins send owners of the Catalyst 3850 and 3650: EOL13188 and EOL13617 map their part numbers to Catalyst 9300 and 9300L replacements. The Catalyst 3850 end of life and Catalyst 3650 end of life pages give the older switches' dates. Within the series, the C9300, C9300L, C9300X and C9300LM differ in uplinks, stacking and power, so spares should be matched to the sub-family.

Questions people ask about the Catalyst 9300
Is the Cisco Catalyst 9300 end of life?
No. Cisco has issued no end-of-sale bulletin for C9300 switch hardware: its 9300 notice listing covers software trains, licences and the SSD-120G accessory only. The series is still orderable, and none of the roughly 101 models on Cisco's series page is flagged end-of-sale.
When does Cisco end support for the Catalyst 9300?
Cisco has announced no date for the switch hardware. If it announces end-of-sale, its policy gives contract holders five years of hardware TAC support and parts, counted from the End-of-Sale date the bulletin sets. The 31 July 2027 date on Cisco's 9300 notice page is the Last Date of Support for the SSD-120G accessory only.
Which IOS XE release should a Catalyst 9300 run?
Switches still on the 17.9.x train should be upgraded: Cisco's vulnerability and security support for that train ended on 30 September 2026, ahead of the train's Last Date of Support on 31 March 2027. For C9300, C9300L, C9300X and C9300LM models, the releases Cisco recommends are 17.15.6 and 17.18.4, according to a Cisco page updated 4 September 2026.
What comes after the Catalyst 9300?
The 9300 is still on sale. The next model in the same line is the C9350 Smart Switch, which Cisco describes as an upgrade path for select 9300 models such as the 1G U/P/T and 48HX/TX. C9350 and 9300 switches do not stack together.
Can a Catalyst 9300 go on third-party maintenance?
A quote can be requested for C9300, C9300L, C9300X and C9300LM switches, listing network modules, power supplies and stacking components. Second-hand units have the most to gain, because Cisco ties E-LLW to the original end user and does not allow it to be transferred; the usual scope of a third-party contract is diagnosing faults, supplying replacement parts and sending engineers.
