Where the Catalyst 3650 stands today
For a standard 3650, every Cisco milestone except the last two, which fall on the same day, is behind it. EOL13617 dates the end-of-life announcement to 31 October 2020, end-of-sale to 31 October 2021 and last shipment to 30 January 2022. Bug-fix releases, routine failure analysis and the option of attaching a new contract all ended on 31 October 2022, and contract renewal closed on 29 January 2026. Support for switches already under contract and End of Vulnerability/Security Support both run out on 31 October 2026. One quirk: the notice appears at two Cisco URLs, headed EOL13617-Amended (updated 26 May 2026) and EOL14617-Amended (updated 10 May 2024), with identical dates.
Which schedule applies is decided by the product ID on the label or in show version and show inventory output; the serial number governs contract coverage, not dates. A model part containing PDM or FQM, such as WS-C3650-24PDM-L, marks a 3650 Mini under EOL14902: end-of-sale 31 May 2023, end of software maintenance 30 May 2024, contract renewal open until 26 August 2027, and support plus security support to 31 May 2028. Cisco's series page shows only the series-wide 31-OCT-2026. The C3650-STACK module and Type 2 stack cables have a third timetable (EOL15473: end-of-sale 12 September 2024, Last Date of Support 31 May 2028), but those are accessory dates, not a switch's.
Cisco sets lifecycle dates per product ID (PID), not per serial number. Read the PID from the label or from 'show version' / 'show inventory'. If the model part contains 'PDM' or 'FQM' (e.g. WS-C3650-24PDM-L, WS-C3650-48FQM-S, C1-WS3650-24PDM/K9), it is a 3650 Mini. Minis fall under EOL14902 (https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-3650-series-switches/catalyst-3650-mini-eol.html), with LDoS 31 May 2028. All other 3650 PIDs fall under EOL13617 (https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-3650-series-switches/eos-eol-notice-c51-744426-b.html), with LDoS 31 Oct 2026. Cisco's series page (https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/switches/catalyst-3650-series-switches/series.html) gives only the series-wide end-of-support date (31-OCT-2026), not per-model dates. Contract coverage is tied to the unit's serial number.
What still works after Cisco support ends
IOS XE bug-fix maintenance for the 3650 ended on 31 October 2022; since then Cisco may release only security remedies, and only until 31 October 2026. After that date, vulnerability reports about standard 3650s can still be submitted to Cisco PSIRT, but PSIRT will neither analyse, fix nor disclose them, and no CVEs will be issued for the product. A precedent from earlier in the 3650's supported life: for the IOS XE Web UI flaws CVE-2023-20198 and CVE-2023-20273, Cisco's fixed-release table listed 16.12.10a for '16.12 (Catalyst 3650 and 3850 only)', released as a free update that customers without a contract obtain through Cisco TAC with the serial number and advisory URL. Such free security updates do not entitle a customer to a new software licence.
Take the 3650's software dates from the hardware bulletin: Cisco's generic IOS XE 16.12.x notice (EOL13547, Last Date of Support 28 February 2026) says the 'Catalyst 3650 and Catalyst 3850 platforms are not part of this EOL announcement'. With renewal closed, no new or renewed Cisco coverage is possible for standard units, and the 3650's IOS software and Cisco ONE DNA Advantage licences, including the IP Base and IP Services relicence PIDs, went end-of-sale on 5 September 2023 (EOL14980) with no replacement. Cisco does say customers may still be able to buy remanufactured 3650s through Cisco Refresh, in limited supply in certain countries.
- IOS XE bug-fix maintenance for the 3650 ended on 31 Oct 2022. Security remedies may be released only until End of Vulnerability/Security Support on 31 Oct 2026. (cisco.com)
- After the Last Date of Support (31 Oct 2026), Cisco PSIRT will accept vulnerability reports but will not analyse, fix or disclose them, and will not issue CVEs for the product. (sec.cloudapps.cisco.com)
- Precedent while still supported: for the IOS XE Web UI vulnerabilities CVE-2023-20198 (CVSS 10.0) and CVE-2023-20273 (CVSS 7.2), Cisco's fixed-release table lists 16.12.10a for '16.12 (Catalyst 3650 and 3850 only)'. Cisco released these as free software updates. Customers without a contract obtain them through Cisco TAC with the product serial number and the advisory URL. Free security updates do not entitle customers to a new software licence. (sec.cloudapps.cisco.com)
What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the Catalyst 3650
Standard 3650s take two redundant modular power supplies and three modular fans in a 1 RU chassis, so those are the modular parts a contract needs to name. Default AC supplies are the PWR-C2-250WAC, PWR-C2-640WAC or PWR-C2-1025WAC, while multigigabit models ship with 715 W or 1100 W units, and available PoE depends on model and supply: 390 W on 'P' models such as the 48PS with the default 640 W unit, 775 W on full-PoE 'F' models with the 1025 W unit, and 435 W to 820 W on multigigabit models. Cisco's migration table lists no replacement for supplies such as the PWR-C2-640WAC.
Uplinks are fixed per model (four 1G, two 10G, four 10G, eight 10G or two 40G QSFP+). StackWise-160 joins up to nine switches with 160 Gbps of stack throughput, and with the C3650-STACK module and STACK-T2 cables end-of-sale and no replacement for the cables, spare cables must come from existing stock or the secondary market. The Mini is built differently: 11.62 in deep for shallow cabinets, with a fixed supply and fans and external RPS 2300 support. Match the licence level (LAN Base, IP Base or IP Services) on any replacement, since Cisco no longer sells the relicence PIDs. Network third-party maintenance should be scoped against these details.

Extend or refresh the Catalyst 3650?
Extending a 3650 on maintenance is easiest to justify for Mini units, whose existing Cisco contracts can be renewed until 26 August 2027 and whose support runs to 31 May 2028, and for standard units in low-risk roles whose replacement cannot be completed by 31 October 2026. After that date, third-party maintenance, which generally provides fault diagnosis, replacement parts and engineers, is an alternative to Cisco SmartNet for standard 3650s while a migration is planned.
On security grounds, standard 3650s argue for refresh: after 31 October 2026, Cisco's PSIRT policy means a flaw on the scale of the Web UI issues would not be analysed or fixed by Cisco. Cisco recommends the Catalyst 9300 Series and maps 3650 PIDs to 9300L models, for example WS-C3650-48PS-S to C9300L-48P-4G-A and WS-C3650-24TD-L to C9300L-24T-4X-E; Mini PDM and FQM models map to C9300LM-24U-4Y and C9300LM-48U-4Y models, and the C3650-STACK module to the C9300L-STACK-A.
- Cisco support ends on 31 Oct 2026, 23 days from today. Contract renewal closed on 29 Jan 2026, so no new or renewed Cisco coverage is possible. After LDoS, Cisco will not analyse, fix or disclose newly found vulnerabilities affecting the 3650. (cisco.com)
- The 3650 Mini SKUs (WS-C3650-24PDM-*, WS-C3650-48FQM-* and the C1- variants) are on a separate, later schedule (EOL14902, Last Date of Support 31 May 2028). Identify the exact PID before quoting a date. (cisco.com)
- Cisco recommends upgrading to the Catalyst 9300 Series. Its migration table maps 3650 PIDs to Catalyst 9300L models, for example WS-C3650-48PS-S to C9300L-48P-4G-A and WS-C3650-24TD-L to C9300L-24T-4X-E. Power supplies such as PWR-C2-640WAC have no replacement. (cisco.com)
- Spares from Cisco: the C3650-STACK module and STACK-T2 stack cables went end-of-sale on 12 Sep 2024 (EOL15473). The cables have no replacement, so stack-cable spares must come from existing stock or the secondary market. (cisco.com)
- The general IOS XE 16.12.x software EoL bulletin (EOL13547, LDoS 28 Feb 2026) says 'Catalyst 3650 and Catalyst 3850 platforms are not part of this EOL announcement' and points to the hardware EoL notice for their software support timelines. Use the hardware bulletin dates, not the generic 16.12 dates. (cisco.com)
- Cisco's IOS software and Cisco ONE DNA Advantage licences for the 3650 went end-of-sale on 5 Sep 2023 (EOL14980), with no replacement. These include the IP Base / IP Services relicence and 12-port adder PIDs. (cisco.com)
- Cisco says customers may still be able to buy the 3650 as remanufactured units through Cisco Refresh, in limited supply in certain countries, first-come first-served. It also mentions the Technology Migration Program for trade-ins. (cisco.com)
- The 3650 shipped with E-LLW: NBD delivery of replacement hardware where available, plus 90 days of 8x5 TAC support. The data sheet's EoL policy says that on discontinuance, warranty support is limited to 5 years from the announcement of discontinuance. (cisco.com)

Related models
The 3650 and 3850 belong to the same Catalyst 3650/3850 family on IOS XE 16.x, and their software histories run together: Cisco listed the same 16.12.10a fix for both, and both are excluded from the generic 16.12.x bulletin. For the 3850's hardware dates, see the Catalyst 3850 end of life page rather than assuming the 3650's apply. Looking back, the 3650's predecessor is the Catalyst 3560-X, inferred from the Catalyst 3xxx access line rather than named by Cisco. Looking forward, Cisco's bulletin points to the 9300L; see the Catalyst 9300 end of life page.

Questions people ask about the Catalyst 3650
Is the Catalyst 3650 end of life?
Yes. Cisco stopped selling the standard 3650 on 31 October 2021, and its published Last Date of Support is 31 October 2026. Until then Cisco supports units under an existing contract, but those contracts could not be renewed after 29 January 2026. 3650 Mini SKUs (PDM and FQM models) are on a separate notice with a Last Date of Support of 31 May 2028.
What happens to the 3650 after 31 October 2026?
Cisco support and End of Vulnerability/Security Support both end for the standard models on that date. PSIRT will go on accepting vulnerability reports about the product but, under Cisco's policy, will not analyse, fix or disclose them, and no CVEs will be issued for it. Third-party maintenance can provide hardware cover after that date.
Will the 3650 get any more IOS XE fixes?
The standard 3650 has had no bug-fix maintenance since 31 October 2022, though security remedies may still be released until 31 October 2026. For the Web UI vulnerabilities CVE-2023-20198 and CVE-2023-20273, Cisco listed 16.12.10a for the 3650 and 3850 as a free update, which customers without a contract could obtain through Cisco TAC with the serial number and advisory URL. Use the hardware bulletin's dates rather than the generic IOS XE 16.12.x notice, which excludes the 3650.
What replaces the Catalyst 3650?
Cisco recommends the Catalyst 9300 Series and maps 3650 PIDs to Catalyst 9300L models, such as WS-C3650-48PS-S to C9300L-48P-4G-A. 3650 Mini SKUs map to C9300LM-24U-4Y and C9300LM-48U-4Y. Power supplies such as the PWR-C2-640WAC and the STACK-T2 cables have no replacement.
Is third-party maintenance available for the 3650?
A quote can be requested for standard and Mini 3650s. With renewal of Cisco contracts on standard units closed, third-party maintenance is one way to keep diagnosis, parts and engineers in place beyond 31 October 2026. Raise stack cables specifically, because Cisco no longer sells them and names no replacement.
