Cisco · Cisco Nexus 9300-EX (N9300-EX) fixed data-centre switches

Cisco Nexus 93180YC-EX end of life

The Cisco Nexus 93180YC-EX is end of sale but not yet out of support: Cisco's bulletin EOL14472 sets its Last Date of Support at 31 August 2027, the same End-of-Support date that Cisco's support page for the switch shows. For a switch already on a Cisco contract, the date that needs action first is 7 November 2026, the last day Cisco will renew or extend that contract. Planned security fixes have already stopped, with the End of Vulnerability/Security Support passing on 8 August 2025.

Every row names its basis. A third-party tracker date is not the vendor’s own, and “not published” means exactly that.

Where the Nexus 93180YC-EX stands today

Cisco announced the end of life on 9 August 2021 in EOL14472, a joint bulletin that also covers the N9K-C93108TC-EX, the copper sibling. Sales ended on 9 August 2022 and the last ship date was 8 November 2022. On 9 August 2023 three milestones landed together: the end of software maintenance releases, of routine failure analysis and of new service attachment. With the security milestone also gone, what remains is a contract tail: existing contracts continue, renewals close on 7 November 2026 and Cisco support ends entirely on 31 August 2027.

The dates follow the product ID rather than the serial number, and every PID in Table 2 of EOL14472 carries the same Table 1 dates. For this switch those PIDs take in the standard N9K-C93180YC-EX, the 24-port N9K-C93180YC-EX-24 and EX24= variants, the -EX-B PID, the port-side exhaust and intake ZZ-PE and ZZ-PI limited PIDs, bundles and spares. Contract cover is the per-serial question. Cisco's Device Coverage Checker takes one serial or a CSV file of serials and needs a Cisco account sign-in; if it shows no contract, Cisco offers no way to add the switch, because new service attachment closed on 9 August 2023.

Finding the date for your own unit

Cisco's dates apply model-wide, by PID, not per serial. Match the product ID on your switch (for example N9K-C93180YC-EX, -EX-24, -EX-B, or the ZZ-PE/ZZ-PI limited PIDs) to Table 2 of bulletin EOL14472 (https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/nexus-9000-series-switches/n9k-c93180yc-c93108tc-ex-eol.pdf). Every listed PID shares the Table 1 dates. Contract coverage for your own unit is per serial: Cisco's Device Coverage Checker (https://cway.cisco.com/sncheck/) checks service contract coverage by serial number or a CSV of serials, and needs a Cisco account sign-in.

What still works after Cisco support ends

On software, the 93180YC-EX is further through its exit than the 2027 date implies. Under Table 1 of EOL14472, Cisco's last date to release NX-OS maintenance releases or bug fixes for this hardware was 9 August 2023, and its last date to release a planned maintenance release or scheduled remedy for a security vulnerability was 8 August 2025, so no further scheduled security fixes are due, contract or not. A contract still brings Cisco TAC support until 31 August 2027, and for contracts created before Cisco rebranded Smart Net Total Care as Cisco Support on 15 June 2025, the SNTC service description lists 'Operating system updates' as a deliverable (section 2.3, Software Download).

Owners without a contract have a narrow route to a security fix: where a public Cisco advisory offers a free software update, which Cisco typically limits to Critical and High severity and decides case by case, they can request it from Cisco TAC with the advisory URL, serial numbers, software release and a description of the concern to hand. Once 31 August 2027 has passed, a flaw found in the 93180YC-EX can still be reported to Cisco PSIRT, but under Cisco's policy it will be neither analysed, fixed nor disclosed, and no CVE will be issued.

  • Under EOL14472 Table 1, Cisco's last date to release NX-OS maintenance releases or bug fixes for this hardware was 9 Aug 2023. Its last date to release a planned maintenance release or scheduled remedy for a security vulnerability was 8 Aug 2025. No further scheduled security fixes are due for this platform, even under contract. (cisco.com)
  • Cisco security advisories are public. Where an advisory offers a free software update (typically limited to Critical and High severity, at Cisco's discretion case by case), a customer without a contract can request it from Cisco TAC. The customer should have the URL of the advisory ready, plus serial numbers, the software release and a description of the concern. (sec.cloudapps.cisco.com)
  • After the Last Date of Support (31 Aug 2027), Cisco PSIRT still accepts vulnerability reports for the product. It will not analyse, fix or disclose them, and it issues no CVEs for issues reported on it. (sec.cloudapps.cisco.com)
  • Under a Smart Net Total Care contract, 'Operating system updates' are a listed deliverable (service description section 2.3, Software Download). Effective 15 June 2025, Cisco rebranded Smart Net Total Care as Cisco Support. The SNTC service description applies to contracts created before that date; later contracts fall under the Cisco Support service description. (cisco.com)

Vendor support you can still buy

  • Cisco Support (Smart Net Total Care before 15 June 2025): renewal of existing contracts only — Existing contracts can be renewed or extended only until 7 Nov 2026 (End of Service Contract Renewal). New attachment closed on 9 Aug 2023. Coverage ends on 31 Aug 2027. (cisco.com)

What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the Nexus 93180YC-EX

The 93180YC-EX is a 1RU switch with 48 SFP fibre downlinks at 1/10/25 Gbps and six 40/100-Gbps QSFP28 uplinks, rated by Cisco at 3.6 Tbps and over 2.6 bpps. It takes up to two power supplies from four types, 500 W AC, 650 W AC, 930 W DC or 1200 W HVAC/HVDC, against a typical draw of 210 W and a maximum of 470 W. Four fans cool it in either port-side intake or port-side exhaust airflow, the split that the ZZ-PI and ZZ-PE PIDs carry, so a contract should note which direction each switch was built for.

Inside are a 4-core CPU, 24 GB of system memory, a 64 GB SSD and a 40 MB system buffer, with two management ports (one RJ-45, one SFP), a USB port and an RS-232 serial console. The switch runs in NX-OS mode or ACI mode (Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure), and the mode belongs on the asset list next to the PID. Once each switch's PID, supplies, airflow and mode are listed, the maintenance coverage builder is where a quote can be requested.

Extend or refresh the Nexus 93180YC-EX?

Keeping a 93180YC-EX on maintenance is a reasonable plan where its current NX-OS or ACI release already meets your security requirements, since no scheduled Cisco fixes are coming. For switches on a Cisco contract the decision has a deadline: any renewal or extension must be in place by 7 November 2026, and Cisco coverage ends on 31 August 2027 regardless. Switches without Cisco cover have had no way onto a contract since August 2023, which is where network third-party maintenance is generally used, providing diagnosis, replacement parts and engineers for the hardware, including after the vendor's Last Date of Support.

The argument for refresh is about software. With NX-OS maintenance releases gone since August 2023 and planned vulnerability remedies since August 2025, a newly disclosed flaw has no scheduled Cisco fix, and after 31 August 2027 PSIRT will not analyse one at all. Cisco maps most 93180YC-EX PIDs to the Nexus 93180YC-FX3 (N9K-C93180YC-FX3), and the N9K-C93180YCEXB18Q two-switch bundle to the N9K-C93180-FX3-B8C. Until a move, Cisco says refurbished units may be available in limited supply through its Certified Refurbished Equipment programme up to the Last Date of Support, and that service prices may change after the End-of-Sale date.

  • The End of Service Contract Renewal date is 7 Nov 2026. After that date an existing Cisco contract cannot be extended or renewed. Cisco support ends entirely at the Last Date of Support, 31 Aug 2027. (cisco.com)
  • The End of New Service Attachment date (9 Aug 2023) has passed, so Cisco offers no way to put a 93180YC-EX that is not already under a Cisco contract onto one. (cisco.com)
  • Planned security remedies for this platform ended on 8 Aug 2025, two years before the Last Date of Support. Units still under contract keep Cisco TAC support until 31 Aug 2027, but no scheduled security fixes are due. (cisco.com)
  • All 93180YC-EX PIDs in the bulletin share the same Table 1 dates. These include the 24-port N9K-C93180YC-EX-24 / EX24= variants, the port-side exhaust and intake ZZ-PE/ZZ-PI PIDs, and the bundles. Cisco maps most of them to the N9K-C93180YC-FX3. The N9K-C93180YCEXB18Q two-switch bundle maps to the N9K-C93180-FX3-B8C. (cisco.com)
  • Cisco says refurbished units may be available in limited supply through its Certified Refurbished Equipment program until the Last Date of Support. It also says service prices may change after the End-of-Sale date. (cisco.com)

In Cisco's Nexus 9300-EX family of fixed data-centre switches, bulletin EOL14472 pairs the 93180YC-EX, with its SFP fibre downlinks, with a copper sibling, the N9K-C93108TC-EX, and gives one set of Table 1 dates for every PID it lists. Cisco's support page gives the 93180YC-EX a release date of 29 February 2016. Where the same network also runs Catalyst switches, Catalyst 9300 end of life and Catalyst 3850 end of life cover those models.

Questions people ask about the Nexus 93180YC-EX

Is the Nexus 93180YC-EX end of life?

Cisco has announced its end of life and stopped selling it: the EOL14472 announcement came on 9 August 2021 and the End-of-Sale date was 9 August 2022. It is not yet past its Last Date of Support, which the bulletin sets at 31 August 2027, so switches on an existing Cisco contract keep TAC support until then.

When does Cisco stop supporting the 93180YC-EX?

Cisco support for every 93180YC-EX PID ends on 31 August 2027. The earlier cut-off for contract holders is 7 November 2026, after which Cisco will not renew or extend a contract on the switch. A unit with no Cisco contract has been unable to get one since 9 August 2023.

Does the Nexus 93180YC-EX still get NX-OS security patches?

Not scheduled ones. Cisco's last date to release a planned maintenance release or scheduled security remedy for this hardware was 8 August 2025, and NX-OS maintenance releases and bug fixes stopped on 9 August 2023. Where a public Cisco advisory offers a free software update, which Cisco typically limits to Critical and High severity and decides case by case, an owner without a contract can still ask Cisco TAC for it.

What replaces the Nexus 93180YC-EX?

In the migration mapping of EOL14472, most 93180YC-EX PIDs go to the N9K-C93180YC-FX3, the Nexus 93180YC-FX3. The N9K-C93180YCEXB18Q two-switch bundle is mapped instead to the N9K-C93180-FX3-B8C.

Can I get third-party maintenance for a Nexus 93180YC-EX?

Third-party maintenance generally provides fault diagnosis, replacement parts and engineers for switches like this, and it can continue past a vendor's last date of support. For a 93180YC-EX that cannot be added to a Cisco contract, which applies to any uncovered unit since 9 August 2023, it is one way to keep the hardware maintained. A quote for Cisco third-party maintenance can be requested with each switch's PID and power configuration.
