The last scheduled 14G release was 7.00.00.00 (July 2023). This milestone covers iDRAC9 firmware, not the server hardware. The T140 appears in the product list of Dell's 14G BIOS/iDRAC9 KB 000215873 and under 'yx4x' in Dell's ESXi 8.x matrix. | PowerEdge: Dell iDRAC9 Support and Management Guide for PowerEdge Servers (KB 000178016, last modified 1 Oct 2026) |

After this date 'iDRAC Engineering is no longer obligated to maintain or repair the firmware.' Every 14G build since July 2023 is listed as a 'Discretionary Sev1 security fix', from 7.00.00.171 (February 2024) to 7.00.00.185 (August 2026). | PowerEdge: Dell iDRAC9 Support and Management Guide for PowerEdge Servers (KB 000178016, last modified 1 Oct 2026) |
Where the PowerEdge T140 stands today
Start with the Service Tag. Dell ties warranty and contract end dates to each server's tag, and its lookup on the Dell support site reports coverage status and expiration for any T140 you enter (Dell KB 000132024). Renewals are requested through Dell's extend-warranty form; they are not available in every country, and a T140 bought through a reseller may need renewing through that reseller. There is no model date to fall back on: the spreadsheet attached to Dell's end-of-life product list (KB 000185734), updated to 2 October 2026, lists converged infrastructure, storage and storage networking products, and the T140 is not among them.
Two other Dell documents put the T140 in context. The Windows Server LTSC matrix dated December 2025 tags the T140 row with ***, which points to the note 'Almost all 14G platforms have reached End of Life and are discontinued'. Nothing in that note gives a support end date for an individual tower. Dell's iDRAC9 support guide (KB 000178016) adds the management-controller timetable: Dell ended feature development for 14G iDRAC9 on 30 June 2023, and software maintenance continues until 1 February 2027. Both dates cover iDRAC9 firmware, not the T140's hardware.
Dell ties warranty and contract end dates to each server's Service Tag and publishes no model-wide date. Enter the Service Tag at https://www.dell.com/support/contractservices/ to see coverage status and expiration (Dell KB 000132024: https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-gb/000132024). Renewals are requested at https://www.dell.com/support/incidents-online/email/extend-warranty. They are not available in all countries, and units bought through a reseller may need to be renewed through that reseller.
What still works after Dell support ends
Dell's published download policy does not tie the T140's BIOS or firmware to a contract. Dell's stated position is that 'All drivers and firmware for Dell servers are available to download for free on the Dell Support website', and its iDRAC9 guide adds that 'Released iDRAC firmware updates are available regardless of support contract.' When checked on 8 October 2026, Dell's UK drivers page for the T140 listed the shared R340/R240/T340/T140 BIOS at version 2.25.2, marked Recommended and dated the same day, and a single iDRAC package, 7.00.00.185 ('Urgent', 28 August 2026). Dell's iDRAC9 versions KB, last modified 10 September 2026, lagged behind at 7.00.00.183.
What changes in early 2027 is Dell's commitment to iDRAC9 on this generation. The last scheduled 14G release came in July 2023, and every build since, from 7.00.00.171 in February 2024 onwards, has been listed as a 'Discretionary Sev1 security fix'. Once 1 February 2027 passes, Dell's iDRAC Engineering 'is no longer obligated to maintain or repair the firmware'. On the hardware side, Dell offers warranty renewal per Service Tag to cover Dell-branded hardware repairs or replacement parts, where renewal is available.
- Dell: 'All drivers and firmware for Dell servers are available to download for free on the Dell Support website.' (dell.com)
- iDRAC firmware: 'Released iDRAC firmware updates are available regardless of support contract.' (dell.com)
- iDRAC9 software maintenance for 14G servers continues until 2027-02-01. After that date Dell's iDRAC Engineering 'is no longer obligated to maintain or repair the firmware'. Since July 2023, every 14G release has been a 'Discretionary Sev1 security fix'. (dell.com)
Vendor support you can still buy
- Dell warranty renewal (per Service Tag) — Dell KB 000132024: warranties can be renewed to cover Dell-branded hardware repairs or replacement parts, but not in all countries. Whether a given T140 can be renewed depends on its Service Tag. (dell.com)
What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the PowerEdge T140
Power comes from one cabled 365 W Gold AC supply with no redundant partner. Storage is up to four 3.5-inch cabled SAS/SATA drives, so the contract should state how a drive replacement is handled. Internally the controller is a PERC H730P, PERC H330 or HBA330, and external storage connects through a 12 Gb/s SAS HBA or HBA355e. Dell's owner's manual adds a rule that matters for spares: 'For a system with 4 TB (or more) drive capacity, PERC is required for thermal control.' The contract should therefore record which controller is fitted.
Memory is four DDR4 UDIMM slots, up to 2666 MT/s and 64 GB in total; from BIOS 2.5.1, 3200 MT/s UDIMMs are compatible too, clocked down to 2666 MT/s. The four PCIe Gen3 slots, two from the processor and two from the Platform Controller Hub, may carry NICs or controllers that belong on the asset list, and the iDRAC9 with Lifecycle Controller should be named in scope as well. What third-party maintenance covers is set out separately: in general, fault-finding, replacement parts and engineer visits, including once the vendor's own cover has ended. Dell third-party maintenance deals with the PowerEdge-specific side.

Extend or refresh the PowerEdge T140?
For a T140 the operating-system ceiling is the main question. Dell's ESXi 8.x matrix (Rev A13, March 2026) covers the T140 (Xeon E-2100/E-2200) for ESXi 8.0 through 8.0 U3, but the ESXi 9.x matrix (Rev A03, May 2026) has no 14G (yx4x) section, so the T140 is not listed for ESXi 9.0 or 9.1. In Dell's Windows Server matrix, 14G has no Windows Server 2025 column. The matrix ticks Essentials and Standard, not Datacenter, for 2022, 2019 and 2016, with 'Qualified' shown only for 2022.
Where a T140 runs a settled Windows Server 2022 or ESXi 8 workload and its controller, drives and power supply can be matched, carrying it on maintenance is a reasonable choice, and Dell's drivers page carried a BIOS release for it dated 8 October 2026. The weaker point is the management controller: if your security policy requires vendor-maintained iDRAC firmware, plan around 1 February 2027. The PowerEdge T150 is the next model in the same line, and the refurbished PowerEdge configurator is an option if you would rather not buy new.
- Windows Server: Dell's LTSC support matrix (PDF dated Dec 2025) has no Windows Server 2025 column for 14G servers. The T140 row ticks the Essentials and Standard editions (not Datacenter) of Windows Server 2022, 2019 and 2016. A 'Qualified' support level appears only in the Windows Server 2022 column. The 2019 and 2016 support-level cells are blank. The row carries the *** marker for 'Almost all 14G platforms have reached End of Life and are discontinued'. (dl.dell.com)
- VMware: Dell's ESXi 8.x compatibility matrix (Rev A13, March 2026) lists the T140 (Xeon E-2100/E-2200) for ESXi 8.0 through 8.0 U3. (dl.dell.com)
- VMware: Dell's ESXi 9.x compatibility matrix (Rev A03, May 2026) has no 14G (yx4x) section. The T140 is not listed for ESXi 9.0 or 9.1. (dl.dell.com)
- iDRAC9: on 8 Oct 2026, Dell's UK drivers page for the T140 offered a single iDRAC firmware package, 7.00.00.185 ('Urgent', dated 28 Aug 2026). That matches the latest 14G build in Dell's iDRAC9 support guide. Dell's iDRAC9 versions KB 000178115 (last modified 10 Sep 2026) still shows 7.00.00.183, so that KB lags the download page. (dell.com)
- BIOS: on 8 Oct 2026, Dell's UK drivers page for the T140 offered the shared 'Dell Server PowerEdge BIOS R340/R240/T340/T140' version 2.25.2 (Recommended, dated 08 Oct 2026). (dell.com)
- Dell's 14G BIOS/iDRAC9 update KB (000215873, last modified 23 Jun 2026) still lists the T140 in its products list. (dell.com)
- Spares: Dell says 'For a system with 4 TB (or more) drive capacity, PERC is required for thermal control.' 3200 MT/s UDIMMs are compatible from BIOS 2.5.1 but run at 2666 MT/s. (dl.dell.com)

Impress Cloud Watch reported that Dell EMC Japan began selling the T140 on 5 December 2018, alongside the T340, R240, R340 and R740xd2. Its BIOS is the same package as the R340, R240 and T340, and it shares the 14G iDRAC9 timetable described above. The T130 is the earlier model in the line, although no Dell document read for this page names it as the T140's predecessor. Mixed PowerEdge estates use the same per-Service-Tag check for every model, including the PowerEdge T430.

Questions people ask about the PowerEdge T140
Is the PowerEdge T140 end of life?
Dell has published no model-wide end-of-life date for the T140. Its December 2025 Windows Server matrix marks the T140 row with a *** that points to the note 'Almost all 14G platforms have reached End of Life and are discontinued', but that note sets no support date; each T140's cover runs to the date on its Service Tag.
How do I check whether my T140 is still under Dell warranty?
Enter the server's Service Tag in Dell's warranty and contract lookup, which shows coverage status and expiration. If you want to renew, Dell takes requests through its extend-warranty form, but renewal is not offered in every country, and a T140 bought from a reseller may have to go back to that reseller for renewal. For the other models in your estate, see the server end-of-life checker.
Will Dell keep updating iDRAC on the T140?
Dell's software maintenance for iDRAC9 on 14G servers continues until 1 February 2027; after that, Dell says its iDRAC Engineering 'is no longer obligated to maintain or repair the firmware'. Since July 2023 each 14G build has been listed as a 'Discretionary Sev1 security fix'. Dell also states that 'Released iDRAC firmware updates are available regardless of support contract.'
Can I get third-party maintenance for a Dell T140?
Third-party maintenance contracts generally provide fault diagnosis, replacement parts and engineer visits, and can carry on after a unit's Dell cover lapses. For a T140, a quote request should list the 365 W PSU, the cabled drives and which PERC or HBA is fitted.
What came after the T140?
The PowerEdge T150 is the next model in the same line. The Dell documents read for this page do not name the T140's predecessor, though the T130 sits before it in the model line.
