The ETERNUS storage lines
AB and HB are documented together and share a feature set: dual controllers, REST APIs, Ansible and plug-ins for Splunk and Nagios, and RAID including DDP[src][src]. DX S6 runs from the dual-controller DX600 S6 to the DX8900 S6, which scales out to 16 controllers, with thin provisioning, automated storage tiering, active-active transparent failover, quality-of-service management and selective deduplication and compression[src].

Get ETERNUS storage sized and quoted
- We size capacity and performance from your workloads, not the maximum in the datasheet.
- We choose between AB, HB and DX S6, or tell you when another platform fits better.
- We design the high-availability set-up the datasheets leave to you.
- We quote the array, drives and Fsas support together.
ETERNUS storage: common questions
What is the difference between ETERNUS AB, HB and DX?
AB is all-flash block storage, HB is hybrid SSD and hard-disk block storage, and DX S6 runs from the dual-controller DX600 S6 to the DX8900 S6, with automated tiering and quality-of-service management. AB and HB are documented together and share a feature set; the DX8900 S6 scales out to 16 controllers and thousands of drives.
Which ETERNUS arrays support NVMe over Fabrics?
Of the arrays on this page, the ETERNUS AB3200 and AB6200, per their datasheets: NVMe/FC at 32 or 64 Gb on both, and NVMe/InfiniBand at 100 or 200 Gb on the AB6200. The AB2200 uses Fibre Channel, iSCSI and SAS host interfaces with SAS SSDs.
How large can an ETERNUS DX S6 grow?
The DX8900 S6 scales from 2 to 16 controllers, 3,072 drives and up to 91 PB of SSD capacity, with 16 TB of system memory. The DX900 S6 reaches 2,304 drives and 70 PB of SSD, and the DX600 S6 960 drives and 29 PB.
Does ETERNUS guarantee 99.9999% availability?
Fsas markets the AB and HB lines as engineered for greater than 99.9999% availability, but the datasheets also say high availability is not a standalone product feature: it depends on the user setting up the redundancy, clustering and operating conditions needed. Treat it as a design capability, not a promise.
Does Fsas still sell ETERNUS tape?
Yes: the 1U ETERNUS LT20 S3 with one half-height drive and 8 slots, and the ETERNUS LT140 library from 20 to 560 slots with up to 14 full-height or 42 half-height drives, both for LTO-9 and LTO-8. Both list a 1-year warranty.
Does Fsas sell other vendors’ storage?
Yes. Alongside ETERNUS, Fsas’s UK site lists NetApp, Quantum, Cohesity, Commvault and Qumulo products in its storage portfolio. We cover Quantum tape and backup separately.
