Dell · PowerEdge 13th generation (13G)

Dell PowerEdge T130 end of life

Dell has published no model-wide end-of-life date for the PowerEdge T130 mini tower; support is settled unit by unit through each T130's Service Tag. The T130 is also missing from Dell's current Windows Server support matrix, whose '13G and older discontinued platforms' table lists the T30, T330, T430 and T630 but not this model. Its iDRAC8 management controller reached End of Software Maintenance in February 2024, while its cabled drives and single PSU shape day-to-day maintenance.

Every row names its basis. A third-party tracker date is not the vendor’s own, and “not published” means exactly that.

Where the PowerEdge T130 stands today

The T130's absence from Dell's December 2025 Windows Server matrix is not an end date and should not be read as one. Dell's firmer generation-level statement is in its Secure Boot KB, which says '12th and 13th Generation Server platforms will not receive updates due to end-of-service status' without a date or a mention of the T130, while Dell's 'Servers by generation' KB lists the T130 as a 13th-generation Intel system with iDRAC8. A Dell staff member wrote on Dell's community forum in February 2025 that Dell stopped presenting EOL and EOSL dates for PowerEdge from about the 13th generation, though a forum post is not a policy document.

The dated milestones Dell publishes here are the iDRAC8 controller's (End of Sale in December 2021, End of Software Maintenance in February 2024), and neither marks the end of support for the T130 itself. Each unit's position comes from its Service Tag, which the T130 Owner's Manual places on the pull-out information tag at the front of the system, or possibly on a sticker on the chassis. Dell's contract-services page returns that unit's warranty status and expiry. Dell's extend-warranty form handles renewal requests where renewal is offered; Dell says it is not available in all countries.

Finding the date for your own unit

Dell ties support to each unit's Service Tag, not to the model. The T130 Owner's Manual says the Service Tag and Express Service Code are found on the front of the system by pulling out the information tag, or may be on a sticker on the chassis (https://dl.dell.com/topicspdf/poweredge-t130_owners-manual_en-us.pdf). Enter the Service Tag at https://www.dell.com/support/contractservices/ to see warranty status and expiry date. To ask about renewal, use https://www.dell.com/support/incidents-online/email/extend-warranty. Dell says 'Warranty Renewals are not available in all countries', and 'If you have purchased your products through a reseller partner, you may need to contact the reseller for renewal' (Dell KB 000132024: https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000132024).

What still works after Dell support ends

Firmware for the T130 is still downloadable. Dell says all drivers and firmware for its servers can be downloaded free, and that released iDRAC firmware is available regardless of support contract, naming 2.86.86.86 as the final iDRAC8 version. Its public advisory DSA-2024-006 lists T130 BIOS versions earlier than 2.20.0 as affected by CVE-2024-0161 and gives 2.20.0 or later as the remediation. New iDRAC8 fixes are not owed: after February 2024 Dell is no longer obliged to maintain or repair that firmware.

Dell has also ruled some things out for 13G hardware such as the T130. There will be no BIOS update for the expiring Microsoft Secure Boot 2011 certificates, and the Secure Boot BIOS guidelines Dell does publish start at the 14th generation, with no T130 row. Dell said the 2011 certificates would begin expiring in June 2026; by its account an already-installed OS keeps booting, but Dell warns of potential boot failures where BIOS defaults are reset or Secure Boot is disabled. For monitoring, the last OpenManage Server Administrator release, dated 30 September 2024, supports 14th to 16th generation servers only, and Dell points instead to iDRAC with the iDRAC Service Module.

  • Dell says PowerEdge drivers and firmware are free to download: 'All drivers and firmware for Dell servers are available to download for free on the Dell Support website.' (KB 'PowerEdge: Methods and Steps to Update Firmware and Drivers', modified 31 Aug 2026.) (dell.com)
  • iDRAC8: 'Released iDRAC firmware updates are available regardless of support contract.' Dell: 'The last release of iDRAC8 firmware is version 2.86.86.86.' Dell has no obligation to fix iDRAC8 firmware after February 2024. (dell.com)
  • Dell security advisories are public. DSA-2024-006 (CVE-2024-0161; revision 1.0 initial release 2024-03-12, latest revision 7.0 of 2025-06-30) lists PowerEdge T130 BIOS 'Versions prior to 2.20.0' as affected and 'Version 2.20.0 or later' as the remediation. (dell.com)
  • No Secure Boot certificate BIOS update is coming for 13G. Dell: '12th and 13th Generation Server platforms will not receive updates due to end-of-service status.' Dell's 'Server BIOS Update Guidelines for Microsoft Secure Boot Certificates' (KB 000402373, https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000402373) covers 14th to 16th generation servers only and has no T130 row. What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the PowerEdge T130

Drives are the part of a T130 contract to read closely. It holds up to four 3.5-inch internal cabled SATA or nearline SAS drives, and Dell's drive-carrier removal procedures begin with turning off the system and any attached peripherals, whatever generic 'hot swappable' wording appears elsewhere in the manual, so each disk replacement means planned downtime. The Owner's Manual also says the T130 'does not support hard drives higher than 5 TB', narrowing replacement-drive choices. Power is one 290 W Bronze supply, listed on Dell's spec sheet as cabled, with no redundancy, so a PSU fault takes the server down.

A contract should also name the RAID controller (software RAID on the PERC S130, or a PERC H330, H730 or H830 controller), the four DDR4 unbuffered DIMM sockets (64 GB maximum), the single processor, the four full-height PCIe 3.0 slots, the two 10/100/1000 Mbps network ports and iDRAC8 with its optional vFlash. What third-party maintenance covers sets out the general model: fault diagnosis, replacement parts and engineer attendance, which can run beyond a vendor's own support.

Extend or refresh the PowerEdge T130?

A T130 doing a light, local job can reasonably stay on maintenance if the business accepts an outage for each drive or PSU swap and its disks are within the 5 TB limit. The tower measures 36.0 cm high, 17.5 cm wide and 43.5 cm deep, its released firmware remains downloadable, and a Service Tag lookup shows whether that unit still has Dell warranty.

Refresh is the better answer once the operating system matters. Dell's T130 supported-OS page lists Windows Server 2016 and goes up to Windows Server 2019 LTSC, whose extended end date Microsoft gives as 10 January 2029, but with the T130 absent from Dell's Windows Server matrix there is no Dell support level to point to. The same page stops at ESXi 6.7, a release Broadcom took out of general support on 15 October 2022, and Dell's vSphere 7.x matrix names the T130 only as a naming-convention example. Intel ARK lists the Xeon E3-1220 v5 and v6, example parts from the processor families the T130 takes, with End of Servicing Updates dates of 30 September 2022 and 31 March 2024. Together these point towards the PowerEdge T140, the next model in the same line.

  • No power redundancy. Dell's spec sheet lists only a single '290W cabled PSU', so a PSU failure takes the server down. (i.dell.com)
  • Drive replacement needs a power-down. The T130's drives are internal and cabled, and Dell's procedures for removing a drive carrier (from the cage or the fixed bay) start with 'Before working inside your system', whose first step is 'Turn off the system and any attached peripherals.' (Some generic overview text in the manual says 'hot swappable', but the T130's own removal procedures require power-off.) The Owner's Manual also says the T130 'does not support hard drives higher than 5 TB', which limits replacement-drive choices. (dl.dell.com)
  • Windows Server: the T130 does not appear anywhere in Dell's LTSC support matrix (Dec 2025); its '13G and older discontinued platforms' table lists the T30, T330, T430 and T630 but not the T130. (dl.dell.com)
  • Dell's T130 supported-OS page goes up to VMware ESXi 6.7 and up to Windows Server 2019 LTSC (it also lists Windows Server 2016). The T130 is not in the 13G (yx3x) table of Dell's vSphere 7.x compatibility matrix (Rev. A14, June 2024; https://dl.dell.com/topicspdf/vmware-esxi-7x_compatibility-matrix_en-us.pdf); the matrix names it only as a naming-convention example. (dell.com)
  • Microsoft lists Windows Server 2019's Extended End Date as '1/10/2029 6:59:59 AM' (US month/day order, i.e. 10 January 2029 as displayed). Windows Server 2019 LTSC is the newest Windows Server on Dell's T130 supported-OS page. (learn.microsoft.com)
  • Broadcom: 'The End of General Support for vSphere ESXi/vCenter 6.5,6.7 or vSphere vSAN 6.5, 6.6 and 6.7 is October 15, 2022'. (knowledge.broadcom.com)
  • Secure Boot: Dell says 'Microsoft Secure Boot 2011 certificates begin expiring in June 2026' and '12th and 13th Generation Server platforms will not receive updates due to end-of-service status'. Dell: 'Expired certificates do not impact an already installed OS—those systems continue to boot'. Among the effects of expired certificates Dell lists 'Inability to receive Secure Boot-related updates' and 'Potential boot failures if Secure Boot is disabled or BIOS defaults are reset'. (dell.com)
  • OMSA had its final release on 30 September 2024, and Dell says 'the last OMSA release only supports 14th, 15th, and 16th-Generation servers', so 13G is excluded. Dell points to iDRAC with the iDRAC Service Module (iSM) instead. (dell.com)
  • CPU microcode servicing (v5): Intel ARK shows the Xeon E3-1220 v5, an example E3-1200 v5 SKU, with servicing status 'End of Servicing Lifetime' and an End of Servicing Updates date of 30 September 2022. Check the ARK page for the exact SKU installed. (intel.com)
  • CPU microcode servicing (v6): Intel ARK shows the Xeon E3-1220 v6, an example E3-1200 v6 SKU, with servicing status 'End of Servicing Updates' and an End of Servicing Updates date of 31 March 2024. Check the ARK page for the exact SKU installed. (intel.com)
  • Warranty length: a Dell support-community staff reply (2 Oct 2025) says 'it is pretty standard that a server can be warrantied up to 5 years from the ship date' and 'That can be extended on some basis, but that is based on part availability.' This is a forum answer, not a policy document. (dell.com)

Dell's T130 spec sheet set it against the previous-generation PowerEdge T110 II, citing '100% more memory capacity', '2x I/O data throughput' and '100% faster IOPS performance'. In the 13G table of Dell's Windows Server matrix, the T30, T330, T430 and T630 appear and the T130 does not. The PowerEdge T430 end-of-life page and the PowerEdge T630 end-of-life page cover two of those towers' own hardware under the same generation-wide wording.

Questions people ask about the PowerEdge T130

Is the Dell PowerEdge T130 end of life?

Dell has set no date for the model as a whole: it publishes neither an end-of-life nor an end-of-service-life date for the T130. Dell describes the 13th generation as being in 'end-of-service status', without a date, and the T130 does not appear in Dell's current Windows Server matrix. Each T130's support position depends on its own Service Tag.

Can I hot-swap drives in a PowerEdge T130?

Not according to Dell's own procedures. The T130's drives, up to four 3.5-inch, are internal and cabled, and Dell's drive-removal steps start by turning off the system and any attached peripherals. Plan an outage for any disk replacement, and keep to drives of 5 TB or less, the limit in the Owner's Manual.

Can I still get firmware for the T130?

Previously released firmware stays available: Dell's position is that its server drivers and firmware cost nothing to download, and released iDRAC firmware is available regardless of support contract. On the controller, Dell's iDRAC8 End of Software Maintenance was February 2024 and 2.86.86.86 is the last iDRAC8 release; separately, 13G servers will not get a Secure Boot certificate BIOS update. For CVE-2024-0161, DSA-2024-006 names T130 BIOS 2.20.0 or later as the remediation.

What came after the PowerEdge T130?

The PowerEdge T140 is the next model in the same line. The T130 itself followed the PowerEdge T110 II, which Dell's T130 spec sheet calls the previous generation. Whichever way you go, start with your T130's Service Tag to see whether Dell cover remains.

Can I get third-party maintenance for a Dell T130?

Third-party maintenance for a tower like the T130 generally means diagnosis, replacement parts and engineer visits, and that cover can run after a unit's Dell warranty has ended. A quote should allow for power-down drive swaps, the 5 TB drive limit and the single PSU. See Dell third-party maintenance for how cover is arranged, or request a quote through the maintenance coverage builder.
