PowerEdge T630 end of life

Dell has published no model-wide end-of-life date for the PowerEdge T630, the tower server in its first wave of 13th-generation PowerEdge systems, so the support position of each T630 is whatever the cover on its own Service Tag shows. The T630 sits in the '13G and older discontinued platforms' table of Dell's Windows Server matrix, which gives no date; the iDRAC8 inside it hit Dell's End of Software Maintenance milestone in February 2024.

Every row names its basis. A third-party tracker date is not the vendor’s own, and “not published” means exactly that.

Where the PowerEdge T630 stands today

Dell named the T630 as the tower in its 8 September 2014 announcement of the first 13G servers on Xeon E5-2600 v3, and said shipping would begin that day. On the missing date, a Dell Enterprise Support Services staff member wrote on the Dell Community forum in February 2025 that Dell stopped presenting EOL and EOSL dates for PowerEdge lines as of about the 13th generation. That was a forum reply to an R550 question, not formal policy.

The T630's own date sits with its Service Tag. Read the tag and Express Service Code from the pull-out information tag on the front of the system, or from the chassis sticker, and enter the tag on Dell's Check Warranty Status page for the warranty status and expiry date. Dell's warranty-extension form takes renewal requests; not every country offers renewals, and a T630 bought through a reseller may need to renew there. The two lifecycle dates Dell does publish are for iDRAC8, in a KB that names no server models: December 2021 for End of Sale, February 2024 for End of Software Maintenance. They date the controller, not the tower.

Finding the date for your own unit

Dell ties support to each unit's Service Tag, not to the model. The Service Tag and Express Service Code are on the pull-out information tag on the front of the system, or on a chassis sticker (T630 Owner's Manual: https://dl.dell.com/topicspdf/poweredge-t630_owners-manual_en-us.pdf). Enter the Service Tag at https://www.dell.com/support/contractservices/ to see warranty status and expiry date. To ask about renewal, use https://www.dell.com/support/incidents-online/email/extend-warranty. Renewals are not available in all countries, and reseller-sold units may need to renew via the reseller (Dell KB 000132024: https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000132024).

What still works after Dell support ends

Dell says every Dell server driver and firmware file is free to download from the Dell Support website, so no contract is needed. The limit is iDRAC8: released updates remain available regardless of support contract, but the last iDRAC8 firmware is 2.86.86.86 and Dell is not obligated to fix it after February 2024. Dell's public advisory DSA-2024-006 (first published 12 March 2024) covers the T630 BIOS: versions before 2.19.0 are affected, and the fix is 'Version 2.19.0 or later'. Two management tools exclude 13G. The final OpenManage Server Administrator release came on 30 September 2024 and, in Dell's words, 'only supports 14th, 15th, and 16th-Generation servers', with iDRAC plus the iDRAC Service Module as Dell's suggested route; and Dell's KB on Dell System Update for ESXi 7.x and 8.x lists the T630 among 13th-generation servers that the tool does not support.

  • No support contract is needed for PowerEdge firmware. Dell: 'All drivers and firmware for Dell servers are available to download for free on the Dell Support website.' (dell.com)
  • iDRAC8: 'Released iDRAC firmware updates are available regardless of support contract.' The last iDRAC8 firmware is 2.86.86.86. Dell is not obligated to fix iDRAC8 firmware after February 2024. (dell.com)
  • Dell security advisories are public. DSA-2024-006 (first published 2024-03-12) lists PowerEdge T630 BIOS versions before 2.19.0 as affected and 'Version 2.19.0 or later' as the fix. (dell.com)

What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the PowerEdge T630

On a T630, drive options are up to 18 x 3.5-inch or 32 x 2.5-inch hot-swap drives, or 8 x 3.5-inch plus 4 Express Flash PCIe SSDs, and every bay is hot-swap. Up to two redundant supplies are fitted from 495 W, 750 W (Platinum or Titanium), 1100 W or 1600 W AC, the 1600 W unit needing 200-240 V for its rated output, with an 1100 W DC unit that the Owner's Manual marks for China only. Eight PCIe slots, including the internal PERC slot, mix Gen3 and Gen2, and slots 4 to 7 need both processors. Memory is 24 DDR4 sockets taking RDIMMs or LRDIMMs, up to 1,536 GB with two processors.

GPU-equipped units need extra lines on the contract. Dell's spec sheet offers up to four 300 W GPU accelerators, and the Owner's Manual's installation guidelines call for a GPU enablement kit, GPUs of the same type, the x16 Gen3 slots 1, 3, 6 and 7 (6 and 7 need both processors), the six-fan configuration and 1100 W or 1600 W supplies; four double-width 300 W GPUs cannot run above 30 °C ambient. Add the iDRAC8 tier and any vFlash card, then scope server third-party maintenance around the build you actually have.

Extend or refresh the PowerEdge T630?

A T630 is worth extending where its capacity is still in use: a large internal drive set, or GPUs installed to the Owner's Manual guidelines, on an operating system Dell's matrix ticks for it, namely the 2019 and 2016 releases of Windows Server (Standard and Datacenter, with 2012 R2 and 2012 marked Qualified). GPU installation in an existing unit is documented in that manual, even though the spec sheet's ordering terms say the GPU option and the rack-mount model 'must be ordered at time of initial purchase'. Where those conditions hold and the Dell warranty on the Service Tag has expired, third-party cover such as an alternative to Dell ProSupport generally supplies diagnosis, parts and engineers.

Refresh carries more weight where the T630 is a virtualisation host or needs a newer Windows Server. Dell's vSphere 7.x matrix (Rev. A14, June 2024) shows the T630 as supported on ESXi 7.0 through 7.0 U3 with E5-26xx v3 and v4 processors; since 2 October 2025 ESXi 7.x, vCenter 7.x and vSAN 7.x have been outside Broadcom's general support, and Dell's vSphere 8.0 KB names the T640 and later, not the T630, so check the Broadcom Compatibility Guide before planning ESXi 8. The 13G Windows table has no 2022 or 2025 columns, and Windows Server 2022 and later need TPM 2.0, UEFI and Secure Boot according to Dell's matrix. Intel's ARK shows example parts at 'End of Servicing Updates', dated 31 December 2021 for the E5-2620 v3 and 30 June 2022 for the E5-2620 v4, so check the exact SKU fitted. The PowerEdge T640 is the next model in the same line.

  • Windows Server: Dell's LTSC support matrix lists the T630 under '13G and older discontinued platforms'. It ticks Windows Server 2019 and 2016 (Standard/Datacenter) and Windows Server 2012 R2/2012 (Qualified). The 13G table has no Windows Server 2022 or 2025 columns. Windows Server 2022+ needs TPM 2.0, UEFI and Secure Boot per the same matrix. (dl.dell.com)
  • VMware: Dell's vSphere 7.x compatibility matrix (Rev. A14, June 2024) lists the T630 with E5-26xx v3 and v4 as supported on ESXi 7.0 through 7.0 U3. It can boot from hard drive or SD card, but not BOSS. (dl.dell.com)
  • Broadcom ended general support for ESXi 7.x, vCenter 7.x and vSAN 7.x on 2 October 2025. (knowledge.broadcom.com)
  • Dell's KB 'PowerEdge: Servers certified for VMware vSphere 8.0' refers readers to the VMware/Broadcom compatibility guide for the full list. Its product list names the T640 (14G) and later, not the T630. Check the Broadcom Compatibility Guide before planning an ESXi 8 upgrade. (dell.com)
  • Dell System Update (DSU) for ESXi 7.x/8.x does not support 13th-generation servers. The T630 is in the KB's product list. (dell.com)
  • OMSA's final release (30 September 2024) 'only supports 14th, 15th, and 16th-Generation servers', so 13G is excluded. Dell points to iDRAC plus the iDRAC Service Module instead. (dell.com)
  • Ordering limits: Dell's T630 spec sheet (January 2016) says the up-to-four 300 W GPU option 'must be ordered at time of initial purchase', and that the rack-mount model is available but 'must be ordered at time of initial purchase'. (web.archive.org)
  • Adding GPUs to an installed T630: the Owner's Manual documents GPU card installation. Its guidelines require a GPU enablement kit, GPUs of the same type, x16 Gen3 slots 1, 3, 6 and 7 (6 and 7 need both processors), the six-fan configuration and 1100 W or 1600 W power supplies. Four double-width 300 W GPUs cannot run above 30 °C ambient. (dl.dell.com)
  • CPU microcode servicing (v3): Intel ARK lists the Xeon E5-2620 v3, an example E5-2600 v3 SKU, as 'End of Servicing Updates', dated 2021-12-31. Check the ARK page for the exact SKU installed. (intel.com)
  • CPU microcode servicing (v4): Intel ARK lists the Xeon E5-2620 v4, an example E5-2600 v4 SKU, as 'End of Servicing Updates', dated 2022-06-30. Check the ARK page for the exact SKU installed. (intel.com)
  • Intel defines the End of Servicing Updates date as the point where it 'concludes Baseline Servicing to the broad market'. Intel says Extended Servicing is 'exclusively available to customers who have an existing extended servicing agreement with Intel or who enter into such an agreement.' (intel.com)

Each bar runs from release to the milestone that marks end of support for the model as a whole. Amber bars end on a third-party tracker's date, not the vendor's. A dashed open end means no end date is published — not that support is indefinite. Component and accessory dates (a management controller, a power module) are not treated as the model's.

Questions people ask about the PowerEdge T630

Is the Dell T630 end of life?

The T630 has no Dell end-of-life or EOSL date at model level. Dell's Windows Server matrix lists it under '13G and older discontinued platforms' with no date, and each unit's support follows the warranty or contract on its Service Tag, which you can check on Dell's Check Warranty Status page.

Can I add GPUs to an existing T630?

Dell's Owner's Manual documents GPU installation in the T630. It requires a GPU enablement kit, GPUs of the same type, x16 Gen3 slots 1, 3, 6 and 7, the six-fan configuration and 1100 W or 1600 W power supplies. Four double-width 300 W GPUs cannot run above 30 °C ambient.

Can I still download firmware for the T630?

Yes. No contract is needed: Dell states that all drivers and firmware for Dell servers can be downloaded free from the Dell Support website, and released iDRAC8 firmware is available regardless of support contract. Version 2.86.86.86 is the last iDRAC8 release, and February 2024 marked the end of Dell's obligation to fix iDRAC8 firmware.

What came after the PowerEdge T630?

The PowerEdge T640 is the next model in the same line. Dell's vSphere 8.0 certification KB names the T640 and later but not the T630.

Can I get third-party maintenance for a T630?

A third-party maintenance contract usually brings fault diagnosis, replacement parts and engineer visits, and it can apply after the Dell warranty on a unit's Service Tag has expired. For a T630 the quote should list the drive layout, power supplies and any GPUs fitted. A quote can be requested once the build is known.
