| End of Support (tracker) | 22 July 2025 | Third-party trackerThis date comes from the eosl.date tracker, not from HPE. The same row gives a release date of Sep. 01, 2014, but HPE's QuickSpecs history starts with a revision dated 24-Apr-2015, so treat the row with caution. Park Place has no EOSL page for this model. | eosl.date: HPE ProLiant End of Life (EOL) Dates and End of Service Life (EOSL) Dates (row 'ProLiant ML110 Gen9', section 'No Longer Supported') |
Where the ProLiant ML110 Gen9 stands today
The ML110 Gen9 is a 4.5U single-socket tower on the Intel C610 chipset, taking Xeon E5-2600 v3/v4 or E5-1600 v3/v4 processors, and the optional 234672-B21 sliding shelf lets it sit in a rack. Its QuickSpecs stopped at V23 on 4 December 2017 and now carry an undated RETIRED banner marking the base products obsolete and no longer for sale. An 8 October 2026 search of HPE Support Center returned no end-of-life PCN for the model, and its product support page shows no end-of-support status.
eosl.date lists the ML110 Gen9 under 'No Longer Supported' with that July 2025 date, but the same row puts its release at 1 September 2014, whereas the first dated revision in HPE's QuickSpecs history is 24 April 2015, which is reason for caution. For a given server, the date that matters is its own HPE coverage end. Sign in to HPE Support Center, open Warranty Check, key in the serial number from the product label and submit; every service type is returned with start and end dates and a status (Active, Expiring Soon with under 90 days left, Expired within the past year, or Active in Future). Registered units are dated from purchase, others estimated from manufacture. For the rest of an estate, use the server end-of-life checker.
HPE does not publish a model-wide end-of-support date for the ProLiant ML110 Gen9. Coverage is set per serial number. Sign in to HPE Support Center and open Warranty Check (https://support.hpe.com/connect/s/?card=wc, or Resources > Warranty Check). Enter the serial number from the product label and click Submit. The results list each service type with its start and end dates and a status: 'Active' (end date more than 90 days away), 'Expiring Soon' (less than 90 days left), 'Expired' (ended less than a year ago) or 'Active in Future'. If the product was registered with HPE, warranty expiry is based on the purchase date; otherwise HPE estimates it from the manufacture date. What still works after HPE support ends
For firmware, HPE treats Gen9 more strictly than Gen10 and later. HPE notice a00094704 (v2, 13 January 2025) lifted download entitlement checks for Gen10 and later only, stating that 'Gen9 and previous server generations continue to require an active warranty or support agreement for downloading the SPP/System ROM firmware.' The SPP validation note, undated text in a PDF created on 27 February 2017, exempts drivers, iLO and controller components, plus ProLiant safety and security firmware, from entitlement validation, licence terms still applying; for SPP, BIOS System ROM or CPLD files on out-of-warranty products it says to contact an HPE sales representative, an HPE authorised partner or reseller, or HPE. HPE's own Gen9.0 post-production SPP release notes from April 2022 contradict themselves on whether an active warranty or support agreement is needed.
The newest System ROM listed for the ML110 Gen9 (P99) is v3.40_08-29-2024, released 12 September 2024 as 'Recommended', aligned with Intel IPU 2024.3 and mitigating CVE-2023-45229, CVE-2022-36763 and CVE-2022-36764; its page shows no entitlement wording, though we did not test the download. On iLO 4, HPESBHF04456 (13 March 2023, CVE-2023-28083) lists the ML110 Gen9 as affected before v2.82 and names v2.82 and later as the fix. HPE lists v2.82, dated 2 March 2023, as 'Latest' and does not describe it as the final release.
- HPE notice a00094704 (v2, 13 Jan 2025) removes entitlement checks for Gen10 and later only. For Gen9 it says: 'Gen9 and previous server generations continue to require an active warranty or support agreement for downloading the SPP/System ROM firmware.' (support.hpe.com)
- HPE's SPP validation note says 'ProLiant safety and security firmware, iLO, controller components, and drivers are available on the HPE support Center without entitlement validation', though licence terms still apply. For SPP, BIOS System ROM or CPLD downloads on out-of-warranty products, it says to contact an HPE sales representative, an HPE authorised partner or reseller, or HPE. The note's text is undated; its PDF metadata shows it was created on 27 Feb 2017. (support.hpe.com)
- HPE's Gen9.0 Post Production SPP release notes (April 2022) contradict themselves. They say entitlement verification 'is still required for the Gen9 only (2021.10.0 and later)' SPP. They also say both download routes 'require HPE Passport login and an active warranty or HPE support agreement'. Elsewhere they say 'The Gen9 post production SPP can be downloaded using HPE passport account, without the need for active warranty or support agreement', and the very next sentence reads 'The production SPP and post-production SPP downloads require an active warranty or support agreement'. Separately, a passage under a WS460c Gen9 / Windows 7 heading describes 'Post-Production' firmware and drivers as 'supported through the EOS (end of support) for that server generation', with all later updates released as hot fixes. (downloads.hpe.com)
- HPE's download page for 'System ROM Flash Binary - HPE ProLiant ML110 Gen9 (P99) Server' lists v3.40_08-29-2024 as 'Latest', with release date Sep 12, 2024 and upgrade requirement 'Recommended'. The previous revision was 3.30_09-21-2023 (Oct 5, 2023). The release notes say it is aligned with Intel IPU 2024.3 and mitigates CVE-2023-45229, CVE-2022-36763 and CVE-2022-36764. The page carries no entitlement or warranty wording, and the download itself was not tested. Notice a00094704 (above) says Gen9 System ROM downloads need an active warranty or support agreement. (support.hpe.com)
- HPE security bulletin HPESBHF04456 (rev.1, 13 Mar 2023; CVE-2023-28083) lists the 'HPE ProLiant ML110 Gen9 Server - Prior to iLO 4 v2.82' as affected. It names 'HPE Integrated Lights-Out 4 (iLO 4) v2.82 and later' as the fix for 'ProLiant Gen8 and Gen9 servers'. (support.hpe.com)
- HPE's download page for the iLO 4 'Online ROM Flash Component for Windows x64' lists v2.82 as 'Latest', with release date Mar 2, 2023, and says the component updates 'supported HPE ProLiant Gen8 and Gen9' systems. HPE does not call v2.82 the final iLO 4 release. The page carries no entitlement wording. (support.hpe.com)
What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the ProLiant ML110 Gen9
A maintenance quote for an ML110 Gen9 starts with which of three drive layouts it has: four non-hot-plug LFF SATA bays, four hot-plug LFF SAS/SATA bays upgradable to eight, or eight hot-plug SFF bays upgradable to sixteen, where sixteen requires the P840 controller. Entry and base models use the Dynamic Smart Array B140i, which cannot be mixed with a stand-up internal controller. Power is a 350W or 550W ATX-Gen9 supply or the 750W CS Gold hot-plug unit; the 750W needs the RPS Enablement Kit (784582-B21), which supports two supplies.
Add the five PCIe 3.0 slots (one x16, two x8, two x4), eight DDR4 DIMM slots, the onboard Broadcom 5717 dual-port 1GbE and the iLO 4 controller. A dedicated 1GbE iLO port needs the optional ML Gen9 dedicated iLO port kit, which has its own slot, and a 140W E5-1600 processor needs the 789654-B21 system fan upgrade kit. A third-party contract typically supplies fault diagnosis, spare parts and engineers, and can run beyond a vendor's own support; HPE third-party maintenance shows how that cover works for HPE hardware.

Extend or refresh the ProLiant ML110 Gen9?
Extending an ML110 Gen9 on maintenance is reasonable for a settled workload on an operating system it already runs. HPE's June 2024 Windows Server matrix (a50010742enw) stops at Windows Server 2016 for this model, listing 2012, 2012 R2 and 2016 in one column that does not split certified from supported. The QuickSpecs standard warranty was three years parts, one year labour and one year onsite next business day, so confirm against the serial what HPE cover, if any, remains.
Virtualisation and patching make the case for refresh. HPE's Custom Image mapping stops Gen9 at vSphere 7.0 U3 (July 2022) and labels 8.0 (including U1 to U3), 9.0 and 9.1 'No Gen9 support', while Broadcom KB 318697 shows the E5-2600 v4 and E5-1600 v4 series as 'Discontinued' in its 9.x column. A host that must run vSphere 8 or 9, or take System ROM updates without HPE coverage, is a refresh candidate. The ML110 Gen10 is the next model in the same line, but its QuickSpecs (V36, 16 September 2024) are RETIRED as well, so price it against other refurbished HPE ProLiant servers.
- HPE notice a00094704 (v2, 13 Jan 2025) says Gen9 SPP and System ROM downloads still need an active HPE warranty or support agreement. That would put the ML110 Gen9's newest System ROM (Sep 2024) behind coverage. HPE's Gen9.0 SPP release notes partly contradict this, and the download page itself shows no entitlement wording. (support.hpe.com)
- HPE marks vSphere 8.0, 8.0 U1, 8.0 U2, 8.0 U3, 9.0 and 9.1 'No Gen9 support'. The last HPE Custom Image for Gen9 is vSphere 7.0 U3 (Jul 2022). (vibsdepot.hpe.com)
- Broadcom KB 318697 lists 'Xeon E5-2600-V4 Series; Xeon E5-1600-V4 Series' (Broadwell-EP) as 'Discontinued' in the 9.x column. (knowledge.broadcom.com)
- HPE's Windows Server support and certification matrix (a50010742enw, stamped June 2024) lists WS2012, WS2012 R2 and WS2016 for the ML110 Gen9, and no WS2019, WS2022 or WS2025. The matrix has a single 'Windows Server' column and does not separate certified from supported. (hpe.com)
- The QuickSpecs give a standard warranty of 3-year parts, 1-year labour and 1-year onsite support with next-business-day response. Check each unit's serial number for its actual coverage. (support.hpe.com)
- The next generation, the ML110 Gen10, is itself retired. Its QuickSpecs (a00021851enw, V36, 16-Sep-2024) carry the RETIRED banner. (support.hpe.com)

Related models
HPE writes its Gen9 cut-offs for the generation rather than for this tower: the last-SPP marking on Gen9.1, the vSphere 7.0 U3 ceiling and a00094704's warranty condition on Gen9 SPP and System ROM downloads. An ML110 Gen9 running beside other Gen9 machines therefore shares those limits with the servers on the ProLiant ML350 Gen9 end of life and ProLiant DL380 Gen9 end of life pages. Tracker dates do not transfer the same way: 22 July 2025 belongs to eosl.date's ML110 Gen9 row alone.

Questions people ask about the ProLiant ML110 Gen9
Is the HPE ML110 Gen9 end of life?
HPE marks the ML110 Gen9 RETIRED in its QuickSpecs, with the base products obsolete and no longer sold. There is no HPE model-wide end-of-support date; each unit's cover ends on its own serial-based date. The 22 July 2025 end-of-support date shown by eosl.date is a tracker figure, not HPE's.
When does HPE stop supporting the ML110 Gen9?
HPE does not set one date for the model. Warranty Check shows when each service on a given serial number ends, counted from purchase for registered units or estimated from manufacture otherwise. At generation level, HPE's own words for SPP Gen9.1 are 'Last SPP to support Gen9'.
Can I still download the ML110 Gen9 System ROM?
The latest one HPE lists is v3.40_08-29-2024, released 12 September 2024. Notice a00094704 ties Gen9 SPP and System ROM downloads to an active warranty or support agreement, even though the download page itself carries no entitlement wording. Under HPE's SPP validation note, iLO firmware, drivers, controller components and safety and security firmware sit outside entitlement validation.
What came after the ML110 Gen9?
The next model in the same line is the HPE ProLiant ML110 Gen10. Its QuickSpecs (V36, 16 September 2024) also show the RETIRED banner.
Is third-party maintenance available for the ML110 Gen9?
A quote can be requested. To price one, list the drive layout, the storage controller, the power supplies and whether the dedicated iLO port kit is fitted, and include them when you use the maintenance coverage builder.
