Where the ProLiant ML350 Gen9 stands today
The ML350 Gen9 was sold as a tower or a 5U rack server, and HPE also offered a tower-to-rack conversion kit, so units in the field come in either shape. Its Worldwide QuickSpecs, last revised as V31 on 2 April 2018, carry an undated RETIRED banner describing the base products as 'obsolete' and 'no longer available for sale'. No public HPE end-of-life notice for the model was found; HPE's PCNs need an HPE Support Center sign-in, and support end dates are set unit by unit.
The tracker conflict is worth understanding before you rely on either figure. Park Place, which has also stood for the Service Express database since January 2026, shows only an End of Service Life of 31 July 2023 and no End of Life date, and its entry is scoped to the SFF CTO chassis, so it should not be read as the date for an LFF build. eosl.date, a separate tracker, gives 22 July 2025 against its 'ProLiant ML350 Gen9' row. To find the date that applies to your server, enter its serial number (and the product number if asked) at HPE Support Center Warranty Check and read the coverage end dates; HPE may ask you to sign in with an HPE account.
HPE does not publish public end-of-support dates for ProLiant server models. Coverage is set per serial number. Go to HPE Support Center Warranty Check (https://support.hpe.com/connect/s/warrantycheck), enter the serial number (and the product number if asked), and read the coverage end dates. HPE may ask you to sign in with an HPE account. HPE's EOL PCNs can only be read after signing in to HPE Support Center.
What still works after HPE support ends
The baseline for firmware on an ML350 Gen9 with no warranty or support agreement comes from HPE's SPP validation note. The Service Pack for ProLiant needs that coverage to download; without it, the SPP, BIOS System ROM and CPLD have to be requested through HPE sales or an HPE partner. Drivers, iLO, controller components and ProLiant safety and security firmware are exempt from entitlement validation, although licence terms still apply.
HPE's April 2022 Gen9.0 Post Production SPP release notes complicate the picture: they say entitlement is still required for Gen9-only SPPs, and also that the Gen9 post-production SPP is downloadable with an HPE Passport account and no active warranty or support agreement. Your own HPE account is the place to check which applies. The same notes describe what 'Post-Production' means for a server generation: its firmware and drivers are frozen into a post-production SPP that is 'supported through the EOS (end of support) for that server generation', and any update after the freeze arrives only as a hot fix. No public HPE date for that end of support was found for the ML350 Gen9.
- HPE's SPP validation note says you need an active warranty or support agreement to download the SPP. Without coverage, requests for the SPP, BIOS System ROM or CPLD go to HPE sales or an HPE partner. The same note says ProLiant safety and security firmware, iLO, controller components and drivers can be downloaded without entitlement validation, though licence terms still apply. (support.hpe.com)
- HPE's Gen9.0 Post Production SPP release notes (April 2022) contradict themselves. They say entitlement is still required for Gen9-only SPPs, and they also say the Gen9 post-production SPP 'can be downloaded using HPE passport account, without the need for active warranty or support agreement'. Check with your own HPE account. (downloads.hpe.com)
What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the ProLiant ML350 Gen9
Start with power on the ML350 Gen9. It takes up to four redundant hot-plug HPE Flex Slot supplies, but anything beyond two needs the X4 RPS Enablement Kit, and the 500W Platinum supply was not qualified with that kit; the other options are 800W Platinum and 1400W Platinum Plus. A unit running more than two supplies therefore has the enablement kit to cover as well. The nine expansion slots (eight PCIe 3.0 and one PCIe 2.0) can carry add-in cards that also belong on the schedule.
The drive count is the other variable: 8 hot-plug SFF bays upgradable to 48 SFF, or 8 hot-plug LFF upgradable to 24 LFF, with up to six SFF NVMe drives through the 6SFF Express Bay kit. Entry models used the HPE Dynamic Smart Array B140i, and base and performance models the Flexible Smart Array P440ar/2GB. Memory spans 24 DDR4 slots, reaching 3 TB with E5-2600 v4 or 1.5 TB with v3 using LRDIMMs (768 GB with RDIMMs), and HPE does not support mixing 2133 MHz and 2400 MHz memory. The iLO 4 controller (firmware iLO4 2.0 or later, 4 GB NAND) completes the list. A third-party contract generally covers diagnosis, spare parts and engineers; for how repair-on-failure cover works, see hardware break-fix support, and the maintenance coverage builder lets you list an expanded server like this when requesting a quote.

Extend or refresh the ProLiant ML350 Gen9?
If an ML350 Gen9 is running a fixed workload on its own disks, with an operating system or hypervisor that is not due to change, extending it on maintenance is a reasonable way to defer spending. HPE's last SPP for Gen9 is Gen9.1 whichever route you take, and migrating the contents of an expanded drive cage is work that needs planning in its own right.
Refresh becomes the stronger option when the software has to move. On VMware, HPE's mapping lists vSphere 7.0 U3 (July 2022) as the last Custom Image to support Gen9 servers and marks vSphere 8.0 through 9.1 'No Gen9 support', while HPE's post-production updates for the generation arrive only as hot fixes. The next model in the same ML350 tower line is the ProLiant ML350 Gen10; refurbished HPE ProLiant servers are worth pricing against the cost of keeping this one.
- HPE's ML350 Gen9 QuickSpecs are marked RETIRED: the base products are 'obsolete and are no longer available for sale.' (support.hpe.com)
- HPE calls SPP 2022.03.1 / Gen9.1 the 'Last SPP to support Gen9'. (vibsdepot.hpe.com)
- VMware: HPE marks vSphere 8.0 through 9.1 'No Gen9 support'. The last HPE Custom Image for Gen9 is vSphere 7.0 U3 (Jul 2022). (vibsdepot.hpe.com)
- How HPE handles post-production servers: a generation's firmware and drivers are frozen and supported 'through the EOS (end of support) for that server generation'. Any later updates come out only as hot fixes. (downloads.hpe.com)
- The trackers disagree on this model's end-of-service date. Park Place gives 2023-07-31 for its SFF CTO chassis entry, and eosl.date gives 2025-07-22. Treat any single tracker date for the ML350 Gen9 with caution. (parkplacetechnologies.com)
Keep your ProLiant ML350 Gen9 covered

Related models
Built as a tower (or 5U rack) server on Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3/v4 processors, the ML350 Gen9 followed the ProLiant ML350p Gen8 in the ML350 tower line. HPE frames its last-SPP and vSphere markings around Gen9 as a whole, so owners of mixed Gen9 estates may also want the ProLiant DL380 Gen9 end of life and ProLiant DL360 Gen9 end of life pages. The disagreement between Park Place and eosl.date described above concerns this model's entries, so do not carry either ML350 date across to another server.

Questions people ask about the ProLiant ML350 Gen9
Is the ML350 Gen9 end of life?
Its QuickSpecs are marked RETIRED, with HPE describing the base products as obsolete and no longer available for sale. HPE has not published a public model-wide end-of-support date. The trackers differ: eosl.date gives an end-of-support date of 22 July 2025, and Park Place gives an end-of-service date of 31 July 2023 for the SFF CTO chassis only.
Which tracker date applies to my ML350 Gen9?
Treat either one with caution. Park Place's 31 July 2023 end-of-service entry is scoped to the SFF CTO chassis, while eosl.date's 22 July 2025 end-of-support date sits against its general 'ProLiant ML350 Gen9' row, and neither is HPE's. The date that governs your own unit is its warranty or contract end, which HPE Support Center Warranty Check shows when you enter the serial number.
Can I still download firmware for the ML350 Gen9?
HPE's SPP validation note puts the Service Pack for ProLiant behind an active warranty or support agreement, and without one, SPP, BIOS System ROM and CPLD requests go to HPE sales or an HPE partner. The note exempts drivers, iLO, controller components and safety and security firmware from entitlement validation, though licence terms apply. HPE's Gen9.0 Post Production SPP release notes (April 2022) contradict themselves, saying in one place that Gen9-only SPPs still need entitlement and in another that the post-production SPP can be downloaded without an active warranty or support agreement, so a download attempt from your own HPE account is the practical check.
What came after the ML350 Gen9?
The next model in the same ML350 tower line is the ProLiant ML350 Gen10. On the Gen9 itself, HPE's VMware mapping ends at vSphere 7.0 U3 and marks 8.0 through 9.1 'No Gen9 support'; any host that must reach vSphere 8 or 9 with HPE support needs a newer server.
Can I get third-party maintenance for an ML350 Gen9?
You can ask for a quote. Third-party cover generally means fault diagnosis, replacement parts and engineers, and it can carry on once a vendor's own support is over. For an ML350 Gen9, say whether it is a tower or rack unit, how many supplies it has, whether the X4 RPS Enablement Kit is fitted and how far the drive cages have been expanded; see HPE third-party maintenance for how cover is arranged.
