Where the ProLiant DL380 Gen10 Plus stands today
Firmware is the clearest public signal of the DL380 Gen10 Plus's status: HPE names it among the supported platforms of the Gen10/Gen10 Plus SPP 2026.07.00.00. Sales are a different matter. An undated RETIRED banner on the Worldwide QuickSpecs describes the base products as obsolete and no longer available for sale; the latest revision, V42 of 28 July 2025, changed nothing but a survey link, and the last change to the content came with V40 on 6 January 2025.
The lifecycle dates themselves are in revised PCN a00146170, whose title names the DL345, DL360, DL365 and DL380 Gen10 Plus alongside the DL325/DL385 Gen10 Plus V2 and refers to their 'End Of Life (EOL) Process Dates'. The title is public, but the body, milestone dates and revision date included, is not, and the End of Sale and End of Support Life dates are kept only inside that gated notice. An HPE account sign-in at HPE Support Center opens document a00146170en_us. For your own unit, HPE Support Center Warranty Check takes the serial number (plus the product number if requested) and shows the coverage end dates; HPE may ask for a sign-in there as well.
HPE's model-wide EOL milestone dates are in PCN a00146170. Sign in to HPE Support Center and open https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=a00146170en_us. Your unit's warranty or contract end date is set per serial number. Go to HPE Support Center Warranty Check (https://support.hpe.com/connect/s/warrantycheck), enter the serial number (and the product number if asked), and read the coverage end dates. HPE may ask you to sign in with an HPE account.
What still works after HPE support ends
For a DL380 Gen10 Plus coming off warranty, the practical first step is to sign in with an HPE account and try the download. HPE's Gen10/Gen10 Plus SPP 2026.07.00.00 release notes, published in August 2026, say both download routes 'require an HPE account to log in' and state no warranty requirement. The 2022.03.0 release notes for Gen10/Gen10 Plus had already said entitlement verification was no longer required for those SPP versions and that the production SPP could be downloaded with an HPE Passport account without an active warranty or support agreement, though one older boilerplate line in that document still requires a warranty.
If a download is refused, the reference point is HPE's undated SPP validation note, which sets out the older, stricter rule. Under it, the SPP, BIOS System ROM and CPLD need an active warranty or support agreement, but iLO, controller components, drivers and safety and security firmware can be downloaded without entitlement validation. Applied to a unit with no HPE contract, that rule would still leave the exempt components within reach, but not the SPP, BIOS System ROM or CPLD.
- HPE's Gen10/Gen10 Plus SPP 2022.03.0 release notes say 'Entitlement verification is no longer required for the Gen10/Gen10 Plus SPP versions' and that the production SPP 'can be downloaded using HPE passport account, without the need for active warranty or support agreement'. The same document still contains an older boilerplate line that requires a warranty. (downloads.hpe.com)
- HPE's Gen10/Gen10 Plus SPP 2026.07.00.00 release notes (published August 2026) say both download routes 'require an HPE account to log in'. They state no warranty requirement. (support.hpe.com)
- HPE's undated SPP validation note states the older, stricter rule. SPP, BIOS System ROM and CPLD downloads need an active warranty or support agreement. Safety and security firmware, iLO, controller components and drivers need no entitlement validation. (support.hpe.com)
What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the ProLiant DL380 Gen10 Plus
The DL380 Gen10 Plus needs a detailed contract schedule, because its 2U chassis came in four drive configurations: 8 SFF; 24 SFF, extendable to 38 SFF with an 8 SFF mid-tray and 6 SFF rear cage; 8 LFF; or 12 LFF, extendable to 20 LFF with a 4 LFF mid-tray and 4 LFF rear cage. Controller choice is just as wide: software RAID through SR100i or Intel VROC, Gen10 Smart Array E208i/E208e and P408i/P408e/P816i SR Gen10 controllers, or Gen10 Plus tri-mode MR416i, MR216i, SR932i-p and SR416i-a controllers. Name the mid-tray, rear cage and controller in the contract, as well as the drives.
Networking is easy to overlook: the server has no network ports as standard, so an OCP or stand-up network card was chosen for each build, and BTO models came with a primary OCP card pre-selected. That card is part of what has to be covered. Power comes from one or two HPE Flex Slot supplies that cannot be mixed, from 800W (Platinum, Titanium, -48VDC or Universal high-voltage AC/DC) through 1000W Titanium and 1600W Platinum (high line only) or -48VDC to 1800W-2200W Titanium. Spare processors must be 3rd Generation Xeon Scalable parts, and HPE does not support field upgrades from 1st or 2nd Gen. Management is via the iLO 5 ASIC with a 1 Gb dedicated rear iLO port. HPE third-party maintenance generally supplies diagnosis, parts and engineers, and the maintenance coverage builder lets you list these components when you request a quote.

Extend or refresh the ProLiant DL380 Gen10 Plus?
Software is not, on HPE's current documents, what forces a DL380 Gen10 Plus into retirement: the server is a supported platform in SPP 2026.07.00.00, and HPE's VMware Software Recipe v30.3 lists vSphere 9.1, 9.0 and 8.0 Update 3 as tested with that SPP. Extending one on maintenance as its HPE warranty ends is a reasonable default while that firmware position holds.
Plan the exit anyway. PCN a00146170 has already opened the end-of-life process for this server, and because its dates show only after sign-in, read it before agreeing any multi-year maintenance term. One generation on, the next model in the same DL380 line is the DL380 Gen11, for which HPE has already set EOL dates in a revised Gen11 PCN, so a like-for-like refresh still lands on a model whose end-of-life dates are already set. The ProLiant Gen10 Plus family page helps when weighing another Gen10 Plus unit against a newer platform.
- HPE's DL380 Gen10 Plus QuickSpecs are marked RETIRED: the base products are 'obsolete and are no longer available for sale.' (support.hpe.com)
- HPE has issued a revised PCN, 'End Of Life (EOL) Process Dates', covering the DL345/DL360/DL365/DL380 Gen10 Plus and the DL325/DL385 Gen10 Plus v2. Its milestone dates can only be seen by users signed in to HPE Support Center. (support.hpe.com)
- Firmware is still current. The DL380 Gen10 Plus is a listed supported platform in HPE's Gen10/Gen10 Plus SPP 2026.07.00.00 (release notes published August 2026). (support.hpe.com)
- VMware: HPE's August 2026 VMware Software Recipe (v30.3) says vSphere 9.1, 9.0 and 8.0 Update 3 were tested against the Gen10/Gen10 Plus SPP 2026.07.00.00. (vibsdepot.hpe.com)
- Refresh planning: HPE has also issued a revised PCN for the Gen11 line, including the DL380 Gen11 ('... Gen11 Servers - End Of Life (EOL) Dates'). A like-for-like move to the DL380 Gen11 would therefore land on a model HPE has already set EOL dates for. (support.hpe.com)

Questions people ask about the ProLiant DL380 Gen10 Plus
Is the DL380 Gen10 Plus end of life?
It is retired from sale, and HPE has started its end-of-life process: the DL380 Gen10 Plus is one of the servers named in the title of revised PCN a00146170, 'End Of Life (EOL) Process Dates'. Those dates can only be read after signing in to HPE Support Center. Meanwhile, the server is still a listed supported platform in SPP 2026.07.00.00.
When does HPE stop supporting the DL380 Gen10 Plus?
No public date can be quoted: the End of Sale and End of Support Life dates for this model are only in PCN a00146170, which opens after an HPE Support Center sign-in. Your own unit's cover is set by the warranty or contract date tied to its serial number, which HPE Support Center Warranty Check will show.
Do I need a support contract to download DL380 Gen10 Plus firmware?
It depends which HPE document is applied. The SPP 2026.07.00.00 release notes say both download routes require an HPE account login and state no warranty requirement. The older, undated SPP validation note requires an active warranty or support agreement for the SPP, BIOS System ROM and CPLD, while leaving iLO, controller components, drivers and safety and security firmware free of entitlement validation. Signing in and attempting the download shows which applies to your account.
What does HPE say about vSphere 9 on the DL380 Gen10 Plus?
According to HPE's VMware Software Recipe v30.3, issued in August 2026, the Gen10/Gen10 Plus SPP 2026.07.00.00 was tested with vSphere 9.1, 9.0 and 8.0 Update 3, and that SPP lists the DL380 Gen10 Plus as a supported platform. Check the recipe against your exact build before upgrading.
What came after the DL380 Gen10 Plus?
The next model in the same DL380 line is the ProLiant DL380 Gen11. HPE has already issued a revised PCN with End Of Life dates for its Gen11 line, the DL380 Gen11 included, so factor that into any like-for-like refresh plan.
