HPE ProLiant ML30 Gen9 end of life

The HPE ProLiant ML30 Gen9 is retired from sale with no model-wide HPE end-of-support date, and the two third-party trackers that list it disagree: eosl.date gives end of support as 22 July 2025, and Park Place's EOSL library records an End of Service Life of 31 July 2023 for a CTO-chassis entry. Neither date is HPE's. For any one ML30, what counts is the coverage end HPE Warranty Check returns for its serial number.

Every row names its basis. A third-party tracker date is not the vendor’s own, and “not published” means exactly that.

Where the ProLiant ML30 Gen9 stands today

The ML30 Gen9 is a micro ATX tower from HPE's Gen9 generation: 4U with feet and bezel, 14.5 in high, 6.89 in wide and 18.71 in long, holding one Xeon E3-1200 v5 or v6 quad-core, or a dual-core Pentium or Core i3, on the C236 chipset. Version 1 of the worldwide QuickSpecs is dated 1 December 2015 (a document date, not general availability); V29, on 2 December 2019, removed obsolete SKUs, and the banner now reads RETIRED without a date. Searching HPE Support Center for 'ML30 Gen9 End of Life' and 'ML30 Gen9 discontinued' on 8 October 2026 returned no EOL PCN, and when checked the same day the product support page showed no obsolete, end-of-life or end-of-support status.

The tracker dates need care. Park Place, one source with Service Express since January 2026, records End of Life on 31 July 2018 and End of Service Life on 31 July 2023 for an entry titled 'Proliant Ml30G9 Cto Chasiss', although HPE was still updating the ML30's models and core options in V27 (1 October 2018) and V28 (3 December 2018), and Park Place itself says inclusion 'does not guarantee Park Place can support that specific device'. eosl.date, which is independent of Park Place, shows 22 July 2025 beside a release date of 1 September 2014 that conflicts with the date of HPE's QuickSpecs Version 1. Warranty Check, reached after signing in to HPE Support Center, lists each service on your serial with its start and end dates.

Finding the date for your own unit

HPE does not publish a model-wide end-of-support date for the ProLiant ML30 Gen9. Coverage is set per serial number. Sign in to HPE Support Center and open Warranty Check (https://support.hpe.com/connect/s/?card=wc, or Resources > Warranty Check). Enter the serial number from the product label and click Submit. The results list each service type with its start and end dates and a status: 'Active' (end date more than 90 days away), 'Expiring Soon' (less than 90 days left), 'Expired' (ended less than a year ago) or 'Active in Future'. If the product was registered with HPE, warranty expiry is based on the purchase date; otherwise HPE estimates it from the manufacture date. What still works after HPE support ends

Beyond the service packs, which end for Gen9 at SPP Gen9.1, HPE lists separate component downloads for the ML30 Gen9. The System ROM for the ML30 Gen9 (U23) is listed at v3.40_03-21-2024, released 24 May 2024 as 'Recommended', one day after v3.30_02-01-2024, with mitigations for CVE-2022-36763, CVE-2022-36764 and CVE-2023-45229. CVE-2023-28083, covered in HPE bulletin HPESBHF04456 of 13 March 2023, affects the ML30 Gen9 below iLO 4 v2.82; HPE's iLO 4 download page shows v2.82 (2 March 2023) as 'Latest', though HPE does not call it the final release.

Whether you can download them without cover depends on the file. Under notice a00094704 (v2, 13 January 2025) only Gen10 and later lost their entitlement checks; Gen9 servers still need an active warranty or support agreement to download SPP and System ROM firmware. The iLO 4 update sits on firmer ground: HPE's SPP validation note (PDF created 27 February 2017, text undated) names iLO, alongside drivers, controller components and safety and security firmware, as available without entitlement validation, licence terms still applying, while routing out-of-warranty SPP, BIOS System ROM and CPLD downloads to HPE sales, an HPE authorised partner or reseller, or HPE. The Gen9.0 post-production SPP notes of April 2022 say both that the post-production SPP downloads without an active warranty and that it needs one.

  • HPE notice a00094704 (v2, 13 Jan 2025) removes entitlement checks for Gen10 and later only. For Gen9 it says: 'Gen9 and previous server generations continue to require an active warranty or support agreement for downloading the SPP/System ROM firmware.' (support.hpe.com)
  • HPE's SPP validation note says ProLiant safety and security firmware, iLO, controller components and drivers are available without entitlement validation, though licence terms still apply. For SPP, BIOS System ROM or CPLD downloads on out-of-warranty products, it says to contact HPE sales, an HPE authorised partner or reseller, or HPE. The note's text is undated; its PDF was created on 27 Feb 2017. (support.hpe.com)
  • HPE's Gen9.0 Post Production SPP release notes (April 2022) contradict themselves. They say entitlement 'is still required for the Gen9 only (2021.10.0 and later)' SPP, and that both download routes require 'an active warranty or HPE support agreement'. They also say 'The Gen9 post production SPP can be downloaded using HPE passport account, without the need for active warranty or support agreement', and the next sentence says production and post-production SPP downloads require an active warranty or support agreement. A passage under a WS460c Gen9 / Windows 7 heading says 'Post-Production' firmware and drivers are supported 'through the EOS (end of support) for that server generation', with later updates released as hot fixes. (downloads.hpe.com)
  • HPE's download page for 'System ROM Flash Binary - HPE ProLiant ML30 Gen9 (U23) Servers' lists v3.40_03-21-2024 as 'Latest', with release date May 24, 2024 and upgrade requirement 'Recommended'. The previous revision was 3.30_02-01-2024 (May 23, 2024). The release notes say it mitigates CVE-2023-45229, CVE-2022-36763 and CVE-2022-36764. The page carries no entitlement wording, and the download itself was not tested. Notice a00094704 (above) says Gen9 System ROM downloads need an active warranty or support agreement. (support.hpe.com)
  • HPE security bulletin HPESBHF04456 (rev.1, 13 Mar 2023; CVE-2023-28083) lists the 'HPE ProLiant ML30 Gen9 Server - Prior to iLO 4 v2.82' as affected. It names 'HPE Integrated Lights-Out 4 (iLO 4) v2.82 and later' as the fix for 'ProLiant Gen8 and Gen9 servers'. (support.hpe.com)
  • HPE's download page for the iLO 4 'Online ROM Flash Component for Windows x64' lists v2.82 as 'Latest', with release date Mar 2, 2023, for 'supported HPE ProLiant Gen8 and Gen9' systems. HPE does not call it the final iLO 4 release. The page carries no entitlement wording. (support.hpe.com)

What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the ProLiant ML30 Gen9

A quote for an ML30 Gen9 depends on which build it is. Drive cages came as four LFF bays, hot-plug or not, or eight hot-plug SFF bays, alongside a slim optical bay; base and performance models rely on HPE's B140i Dynamic Smart Array, and a stand-up internal controller cannot be mixed in alongside it. For power there is the non-redundant HPE 350W ATX-Gen9 (Bronze, 85%) or a 460W 80 Plus Gold supply that the redundancy enablement kit makes redundant, so record which is fitted and whether the kit is present.

Four DDR4 ECC UDIMM slots (64 GB maximum), four PCIe 3.0 slots, an HPE Ethernet 1Gb 2-port NC332i and iLO 4 with 4 GB NAND complete the list; NIC1 is shared with iLO. What third-party maintenance covers outlines the usual scope of diagnosis, parts and engineers, and a quote for a specific ML30 build can be requested through the maintenance coverage builder.

Extend or refresh the ProLiant ML30 Gen9?

Start from the serial rather than the trackers: with Park Place's 2023 date and eosl.date's 2025 date in conflict, Warranty Check gives the coverage end for a given ML30. The QuickSpecs standard warranty was 3-year parts, 1-year labour and 1-year next-business-day onsite, or 3 years of each in APJ. Running on under maintenance suits a unit that stays on Windows Server 2016 or earlier, because a50010742enw (stamped June 2024) lists 2012, 2012 R2 and 2016 for this model, with no 2019, 2022 or 2025 and no split between certified and supported.

The case for refresh is a need for Windows Server 2019 or later, vSphere 8 or 9, or System ROM updates without HPE coverage. HPE labels vSphere 8.0, 8.0 U1 to U3, 9.0 and 9.1 'No Gen9 support' and calls 7.0 U3 (July 2022) the 'Last image to support Gen 9 servers'; separately, Broadcom KB 318697 marks the Xeon E3-1200 v5 (Skylake S) and v6 (Kabylake-S) series 'Discontinued' in its 9.x column. Among newer towers, the ML30 Gen10 is the next model in the same line, though its QuickSpecs (V24, 18 March 2024) already carry the RETIRED banner, so compare it with other builds in the refurbished ProLiant configurator.

  • HPE notice a00094704 (v2, 13 Jan 2025) says Gen9 SPP and System ROM downloads still need an active HPE warranty or support agreement. That would put the ML30 Gen9's newest System ROM (May 2024) behind coverage. HPE's Gen9.0 SPP release notes partly contradict this, and the download page itself shows no entitlement wording. (support.hpe.com)
  • HPE marks vSphere 8.0, 8.0 U1, 8.0 U2, 8.0 U3, 9.0 and 9.1 'No Gen9 support'. The last HPE Custom Image for Gen9 is vSphere 7.0 U3 (Jul 2022). (vibsdepot.hpe.com)
  • Broadcom KB 318697 lists 'Xeon E3-1200-V5 Series' (Skylake S) and 'Xeon E3-1200-v6 Series' (Kabylake-S) as 'Discontinued' in the 9.x column. (knowledge.broadcom.com)
  • HPE's Windows Server support and certification matrix (a50010742enw, stamped June 2024) lists WS2012, WS2012 R2 and WS2016 for the ML30 Gen9, and no WS2019, WS2022 or WS2025. The matrix does not separate certified from supported. (hpe.com)
  • The QuickSpecs give a standard warranty of 3-year parts, 1-year labour and 1-year onsite support with next-business-day response. In APJ it is 3-year parts, labour and onsite. Check each unit's serial number for its actual coverage. (support.hpe.com)
  • The trackers disagree on this model's end of service. Park Place gives 2023-07-31 for its CTO-chassis entry, and eosl.date gives 2025-07-22. Treat any single tracker date for the ML30 Gen9 with caution. (eosl.date)
  • The next generation, the ML30 Gen10, is itself retired. Its QuickSpecs (a00053821enw, V24, 18-Mar-2024) carry the RETIRED banner. (support.hpe.com)

The ML30 name spans generations, so check which one a notice covers: PCN a00136611 is, by its title, for the DL20 and ML30 Gen10 Plus, not this server. What does reach the ML30 Gen9 is HPE's generation-level wording, quoted as HPE gives it: SPP Gen9.1 is the 'Last SPP to support Gen9', vSphere 7.0 U3 is the 'Last image to support Gen 9 servers', and a00094704's download condition covers 'Gen9 and previous server generations'. That wording applies in the same way to the Gen9 servers covered by ML350 Gen9 end-of-life status and the DL360 Gen9 end-of-life page. The ML30's tracker dates stay with it: Park Place's 2018 and 2023 dates belong to an entry titled 'Proliant Ml30G9 Cto Chasiss', and eosl.date's 22 July 2025 to its ML30 Gen9 row.

Questions people ask about the ProLiant ML30 Gen9

Is the HPE ML30 Gen9 end of life?

It is retired, with the QuickSpecs banner declaring the base products obsolete and off sale. HPE has published no model-wide end-of-support date, though. Two trackers fill the gap differently: eosl.date gives 22 July 2025 as end of support, and Park Place gives 31 July 2023 as End of Service Life for its CTO-chassis entry.

Why do the ML30 Gen9 end-of-life dates disagree?

They come from two independent trackers, not from HPE. Park Place's 2018 End of Life and 2023 End of Service Life sit on a CTO-chassis entry, and HPE was still revising the ML30's QuickSpecs late in 2018; eosl.date gives 22 July 2025. The coverage end HPE Warranty Check shows for your serial number is the date that applies to your unit.

Can I still get firmware updates for the ML30 Gen9?

HPE lists System ROM v3.40_03-21-2024 (24 May 2024) and iLO 4 v2.82 (2 March 2023) as the newest versions. Getting them is a separate question: a00094704 keeps the warranty-or-support-agreement condition on Gen9 SPP and System ROM downloads, whereas HPE's SPP validation note puts iLO, drivers, controller components and safety and security firmware outside entitlement validation.

Does the ML30 Gen9 support Windows Server 2019 or vSphere 8?

HPE's Windows Server matrix lists Windows Server 2012, 2012 R2 and 2016 for the ML30 Gen9, with no 2019, 2022 or 2025. HPE marks vSphere 8.0 to 9.1 'No Gen9 support', and its last Gen9 Custom Image is vSphere 7.0 U3.

What came after the ML30 Gen9?

Going by the product line, the ProLiant ML30 Gen10 is the next model in the same line. HPE has retired it as well: the RETIRED banner sits on its V24 QuickSpecs of 18 March 2024.
