Where the NetApp AFF A200 stands today
Park Place's AFF A200 page reads 'End of Service Life May 31, 2024', and eosl.date gives the same date as End of Support; Park Place is counted together with Service Express as one source. The vendor-side evidence is indirect. NetApp's 'End of availability for ONTAP hardware systems' page covers models that 'are no longer available for purchase, but are still supported' and names the AFF A150, A220, A250 and A300 among others. The A200 does not appear there.
On software, NetApp lists the A200 as discontinued from ONTAP 9.12.1, alongside the FAS2620 and FAS2650. The line before 9.12.1 is 9.11.1, so 9.11.1 is the A200's last release line; that is an inference, because NetApp's per-platform maximum-ONTAP KB needs a sign-in. The 9.11.1 release has not yet reached the end of NetApp's support stages: it left Full Support on 31 July 2025, stays in Limited Support until 31 July 2027 and in Self-Service Support until 31 July 2030. NetApp says its EOA and EOS dates, set per platform or component, can be found in Hardware Universe or the Support Site's Product Communique; Hardware Universe and the EOA Platforms page both redirected to a NetApp sign-in on 8 October 2026. NetApp asks owners to open a non-technical case for contract and warranty questions about a specific system.
NetApp publishes EOA and EOS dates per platform or component. Its EOA policy KB (https://kb.netapp.com/cs/lcm/Why_does_the_latest_software_release_not_support_my_hardware_or_platform) says the dates 'can be found in Hardware Universe'. The public summary of NetApp's KB (https://kb.netapp.com/on-prem/ontap/OHW/OHW-KBs/How_to_check_End_of_Support_and_End_of_Availability_for_NetApp_products) points to Hardware Universe or the NetApp Support Site Product Communique. On 8 Oct 2026, Hardware Universe (https://hwu.netapp.com) and the EOA Platforms page (https://mysupport.netapp.com/info/eoa/df_eoa_category_page.html?category=Platforms) both redirected to a NetApp sign-in. For a specific system's contract or warranty, the public part of NetApp's KB (https://kb.netapp.com/cs/lcm/How_to_find_contract_details_such_as_warranties) says to 'open a non-technical case'.
What still works after NetApp support ends
According to NetApp's KB, a system at EOS is not eligible for case submittal, technical support assistance, AutoSupport notifications or parts replacement, and once support entitlement has expired its AutoSupport messages 'WILL NOT generate cases'. Owners whose systems are already past EOS are pointed to NetApp sales 'regarding implementation of EOS PVR's if applicable'. No terms or eligibility are published, so that is something to ask about rather than plan around.
Security fixes are the other limit on an A200. NetApp's EOA policy, which it describes as 'applicable to all NetApp hardware', gives an ONTAP platform two years after EOA in which new Feature Releases support it, then keeps Service Updates (P-releases 'which include security fixes') coming for releases that already support it until its EOS date, 'typically 5 years after the EOA date'. Separately, NetApp's definitions say Service Updates, 'including any form of software update', are not provided for versions under Limited Support. With 9.11.1 out of Full Support since 31 July 2025, no new 9.11.1 Service Updates are provided, even though the release itself stays in Limited Support until 31 July 2027.
- NetApp's End of Availability Policy ('applicable to all NetApp hardware'): for ONTAP hardware, new Feature Releases support a platform for 2 years after EOA. Service Updates (P-releases, 'which include security fixes') then continue for Feature Releases that already support it until the EOS date, 'typically 5 years after the EOA date'. (kb.netapp.com)
- Under NetApp's definitions, 'Service Updates (including any form of software update) are not provided for versions under limited support.' ONTAP 9.11.1, the A200's last line, passed End of Full Support on 31-Jul-2025, so no new 9.11.1 Service Updates are provided. (kb.netapp.com)
- NetApp: 'EOS systems will not be eligible for:' case submittal, technical support assistance, AutoSupport notifications and parts replacement. (kb.netapp.com)
- AutoSupport messages 'WILL NOT generate cases' once support entitlement has expired. (kb.netapp.com)
Vendor support you can still buy
- EOS PVR via NetApp sales ('if applicable') — NetApp KB wording for systems already at EOS: 'Contact Sales team regarding implementation of EOS PVR's if applicable.' No terms or eligibility are published. (kb.netapp.com)
What a maintenance contract needs to cover on the NetApp AFF A200
An A200 puts two HA controller modules in one 2U chassis that, in NetApp's words, 'provides a shared cooling configuration for the two HA nodes', and NetApp lists it among systems with internal drives. Cooling is integrated with the redundant, hot-swappable, auto-ranging power supplies, and NetApp warns that a removed PSU must be replaced within two minutes or all controller modules in the chassis shut down. A contract should therefore cover the chassis, both controllers, the drives and the PSUs together, and a replacement PSU needs to be on site before the failed one is pulled. NetApp's installation instructions give a 26 kg (55 lbs.) lifting hazard.
Cabling details matter when a controller is swapped. Each controller has SAS ports 0a and 0b using mini-SAS HD to mini-SAS HD cables; with no external storage these are cross-cabled, controller 1 0a to controller 2 0b and controller 1 0b to controller 2 0a. The onboard network ports include e0a and e0b for the cluster interconnect, e0c/0c for data over 10 GbE or optical cables (NetApp notes 'Port e0c is required'), and e0M, the wrench management port. Record which data cables and optics are fitted. Storage and SAN maintenance covers how third-party cover handles arrays of this type.

Extend or refresh the NetApp AFF A200?
Running an A200 on NetApp third-party maintenance is a reasonable bridge when it carries a stable workload on 9.11.1 and the risk to manage is hardware: a PSU, a controller, a drive. Third-party maintenance generally provides diagnosis, replacement parts and engineers for hardware past the vendor's end of support.
Refresh is the better call when the array holds data exposed to new vulnerabilities, or when 31 July 2027, the date 9.11.1's Limited Support ends, falls inside the period the A200 is expected to run. The next model in the same line is the AFF A220, which NetApp lists as end of availability but still supported, so its own dates need checking before it is treated as a long-term step. Refurbished storage is another way to move off the A200 without buying new systems.
- Software ceiling: NetApp lists the AFF A200 as no longer supported from ONTAP 9.12.1, so it stays on the ONTAP 9.11.1 line or earlier. (docs.netapp.com)
- ONTAP 9.11.1 reached End of Full Support on 31-Jul-2025. It is in Limited Support until 31-Jul-2027 and Self-Service Support until 31-Jul-2030. (kb.netapp.com)
- NetApp's 'End of availability for ONTAP hardware systems' page covers systems that 'are no longer available for purchase, but are still supported'. It lists the AFF A150, A220, A250, A300 and other models, but not the AFF A200. (docs.netapp.com)
- NetApp says EOS systems are not eligible for case submittal, technical support assistance, AutoSupport notifications or parts replacement. (kb.netapp.com)

Related models
On software, NetApp groups the A200 with the FAS2620 and FAS2650: all three are on its ONTAP 9.12.1 discontinuation list, so FAS2650 end of life covers a system with the same ONTAP cut-off. AFF A300 end of life covers a model that does sit on NetApp's list of end-of-availability systems that are still supported, which the A200 does not. In the entry-level all-flash line, the AFF8020 preceded the A200 and the AFF A220 followed it; both placements are inferred rather than stated by NetApp.

Questions people ask about the NetApp AFF A200
Is the NetApp AFF A200 end of life?
Third-party trackers say its support has ended: Park Place Technologies and eosl.date both give 31 May 2024 as the end of NetApp support for the AFF A200. NetApp's own dated notice is behind a Support Site sign-in. NetApp's public pages list the A200 as unsupported from ONTAP 9.12.1 and leave it off the list of end-of-availability systems that are still supported.
What is the last ONTAP version for the AFF A200?
NetApp lists the A200 as no longer supported from ONTAP 9.12.1, which in NetApp's release order makes 9.11.1 the last line. NetApp's own per-platform maximum sits in a sign-in-gated KB, so this is an inference. ONTAP 9.11.1 is in Limited Support until 31 July 2027 and Self-Service Support until 31 July 2030.
Does the AFF A200 still get ONTAP security patches?
Not new ones on the 9.11.1 line. NetApp's Service Updates are the P-releases that include security fixes, and NetApp provides none for a version in Limited Support. ONTAP 9.11.1 entered Limited Support when its Full Support ended on 31 July 2025.
What came after the AFF A200?
The next model in the same entry-level all-flash line is the AFF A220, an inference rather than a NetApp statement. NetApp lists the A220 as end of availability but still supported, so check its own dates before treating it as a long-term step.
Is third-party maintenance an option for an AFF A200?
Yes, in general terms: third-party maintenance exists for this stage of a system's life and typically supplies fault diagnosis, spare parts and engineers once vendor support has ended. A quote can be requested for the exact configuration, which for an A200 means the shared 2U chassis, both HA controllers, the internal drives and the PSUs with their integrated cooling.
